« on: September 13, 2009, 04:14:29 am »
In 810 R2.34, does anyone knows how the "Move" button in Video or Audio media suppose to work, when you select media to play you get four buttons "play" "Close" "Delete" "Move", the Move button does not seems to work as expected, unless I'm missing something.

My setup was running fine till I lost power for few minutes 3 days ago, then my CORE gets the famous "Black screen with mouse pointer"
The back screen shows up after the last message on the screen "Loading LinuxMCE. Please Wait."

I disconnected the internal switch on the core to disconnect all devices, and I tried to upgrade the system today from the recovery mode from the GRUB menu, I got the following message:
Code: [Select]
dpkg: error processing pluto-mythtv-plugin (--configure):
subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Errors were encountered while processing:
  pluto-mythtv-plugin
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)
Except now after the upgrade, the message "Loading LinuxMCE. Please Wait." stay there for hours.
I can access the core from WebAdmin, also I can run the AVWizard without any problem.
Does anyone know how to fix this problem without reinstalling everything from scratch???

I was able to play Internet radio directly on Squuezebox (Boom) or from Squeezecenter to Squeezebox, after upgrading to 2.27 can not do that any more, it says "Connecting" then "Connection Timed Out" on the squeezebox, it is the same on 2.28 & 2.29 releases.
I can play regular MP3 music on the squeezebox no problem only Internet radio???

Users / SPDIF problem with Phoenix "Solo USB microphone"
« on: August 12, 2009, 01:03:28 am »
On my 810-2.26 release, I tried Phoenix "Solo USB microphone" on 2 MD's with audio set for stereos, and one MD audio set for SPDIF, it works great with Audio set for Stereo but not so great with audio set to SPDIF.

On the SPDIF system, first time I installed it, I called the MD it Rang the speaker that is connected to the microphone as expected I answered the call from the orbiter it worked for 10 seconds then I lost the audio, I canceled the call and I tried to play music, the sound came out from the speakers that was connected to the microphone, I had to re-run the AVWizard to switch it back to SPDIF, after that the solo works only for 10 seconds then it will disconnect and never answer any call until I reboot the MD.
Can someone try it and let me know if he's getting the same results??

Thanks.

Users / Section on Validating abnormal behavior
« on: August 10, 2009, 11:20:05 pm »
Is there a procedure in place to verify abnormal behavior that users find with their installations, beside posting the issue on the forum, because the more I use my 810 installation the more issues I find, I posted few issues, and I asked people for help to reproduce it to see if it can be duplicated on their installations, and there was no answer!!!

So, if there is no system in place, maybe we can create a special area on the forum called “Validating abnormal behavior for 8.10”, and under that section we’ll have sub sections to cover all major LinuxMCE functions.

Then people can post their abnormal issues they find in this section , so it can be verified by people who volunteered to help in the testing area, if  the issue can be duplicated, then it will be entered in the “Trac system” by original user or the volunteer, otherwise the original user will post back the topic on the regular forum to get support from other users, and the volunteer will mark the original topic in the “Validating abnormal behavior for 8.10” section as “False Alarm”. This way any test volunteer can help the developers by going to this section, and help in validating the issues of his/her expertise or capabilities, instead reading all topics and see who need help in duplicating the issues.

This is just a suggestion, to make LMCE shine some more, and become the only choice.

Thanks.

Can you guys please double check this before I posted in the Wiki?? Thanks.

How to Install D-Link DNS-323 on LinuxMCE-810
[Dlink DNS-323]
http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=509

The following instructions assume you’re using LinuxMCE version 8.10

Preparing the DNS-323
I recommend to setup the NAS first on your external network then move it to the internal LinuxMCE network.

1- Please follow manufacturer instruction for installing the SATA HDD.
2- Connect the NAS to you external network
3- Check the external router DHCP server for the NAS IP address, or use the utility that came with the NAS “Dlink Easy Search Utility” to locate the IP address
4- Log in to the NAS using any web browser on the external network by setting the URL to: http://NAS-IPaddress
5- Default “admin” password is “Blank, Nothing”, after log in, change admin default password (recommended), from “Tools/Admin Password”
6- Select suitable RAID level for your application and format the drives
7- Check NAS firmware version, it should have 1.07, from “Tools/Firmware” if not; follow manufacturer instruction to update the firmware
8- You should see “Volume_1” as a share directory, from “Advanced/Network access”
9- Add new user with password to the NAS, using “Advanced/Users-Group”
10- Remove default user “ALL” for the “Volume_1” share, and add the user you just created.
11- Set “Oplocks & Map archive” of the “Volume_1” share to “Yes”
12- From “Setup/Device” change workgroup to “linuxmce”
13- Make sure all other services/servers are off or disabled (FTP, UPnP AV, iTunes, DHCP, LLTD)
14- Power down the NAS & disconnect the Ethernet cable
15- Done with NAS preparation

Preparing the LinuxMCE
1- On the Core edit “/etc/samba/smb.conf” with your favorite editor
2- Add the following two lines to the end of the [global] section
Code: [Select]
lanman auth = yes
client lanman auth = yes

Example:
Code: [Select]
[global]
## BEGIN : Domain and Hostname

        workgroup = LinuxMCE
        server string = DCERouter
        netbios name = DCERouter

## END : Domain and Hostname
        smb ports = 139
        log level = 2
        invalid users = root
        log file = /var/log/samba/log.%m
        max log size = 1000
        syslog = 0
        encrypt passwords = true
        socket options = TCP_NODELAY
        dns proxy = no
        passwd program = /usr/bin/passwd %u
        passwd chat = *Enter\snew\sUNIX\spassword:* %n\n *Retype\snew\sUNIX\spassword:* %n\n .
        username map = /etc/samba/usermap.txt
        unix extensions = yes
        security = user
        lanman auth = yes
        client lanman auth = yes
[public]
3- save and quit
4- repeat step 2 to all the MDs in the house
5- Done with LinuxMCE preparation

DNS-323 Installation
1- Connect the NAS to the internal network
2- Power up the NAS
3- Wait couple minutes, LinuxMCE will detect it
4- LinuxMCE will ask if you want to use the DNS-323 as a “File server”, select “File Server”
5- Select location “Room”
6- LinuxMCE will install needed SW
7- LinuxMCE will ask to use reload the router, select “OK”, Don’t “reload” yet.
8- LinuxMCE will ask to use DNS-323/web_page as Windows share, select “No, and ignore it every time. Don’t ask again for this device”
9- LinuxMCE will ask to use DNS-323/ Volume_1 as Windows share, select “Yes”
10- LinuxMCE will ask “Regarding your new storage device, can it be used automatically for storing media, such as TV shows and music” select “YES”, or “ use it only when specifically told to”
11- LinuxMCE asks how to use the directory structure select
“YES”, use LinuxMCE’s directory structure”
12- LinuxMCE will ask you for username & Password, enter the ones you created above.
13- After it is done, reload router
14- LinuxMCE will ask to regenerate all orbiters in the house select “YES”
15- Now you can copy or move all your media files to the NAS
16- From the WebAdmin /Files & Media/Media Files Sync/ select Data folder on the left side and click “Resynchronize” wait until it is done
17- Now you should see your media on your Core and all your MDs
18- Done with the installation
19- Cheers {[Beer]

Troubleshooting
If you screwed up something with the above procedure, and you decided to start all over again, then follow the instruction below to remove the NAS from the PnpQueue, and reinstall it again:

1- Power down the NAS
2- Log in to the Mysql database "sudo mysql -uroot"
3- Select the table from the database "use pluto_main"
4- View all the devices in the queue, and locate the IP address of the NAS "SELECT * FROM PnpQueue;"
5- View all rows of the NAS to be sure, you should see at lease 2 rows "SELECT * FROM PnpQueue where IPaddress=’192.168.80.xxx’;"
6- Delete all rows related to the above IP address " DELETE FROM PnpQueue WHERE IPaddress=’192.168.80.xxx’;"
7- Quit Mysql "quit"
8- Reload the router
9- Turn ON the device
10- Now Linuxmce will detect the device automatically "PnP"
11- Done

Users / [SOLVED] Mounting (NAS-323) Windows Share on 810.A2.26
« on: August 01, 2009, 08:20:06 pm »
After switching to 810, I found a problem playing music from the \NAS-323\sharedfolder\ (No Password) on the squeezebox, there was no issue using the same shared folder “Multimedia” on 710 setup, debugging this with ColinJones, we found out there is a permissions/ownership problem, the shared Folder mount has a “501” user access, searching the core users/Group, there is no such a user or Group. We suspect this user came from the NAS!!
Code: [Select]
linuxmce@dcerouter:~$ ls -al /mnt/device
total 4
drwxr-xr-x 3 root root    0 2009-07-30 16:20 .
drwxr-xr-x 4 root root 4096 2009-07-29 20:20 ..
drwxrwx--- 7  501  501    0 2009-06-17 23:15 92
linuxmce@dcerouter:~$ ls -al /mnt/device/92
ls: cannot open directory /mnt/device/92: Permission denied

FYI Here's the output of the mount command
Code: [Select]
//192.168.80.139/Multimedia on /mnt/device/92 type cifs (rw,mand,unc=\\192.168.80.139\Multimedia,username=guest,posixpaths,acl,rsize=16384,wsize=57344)
linuxmce@dcerouter:~$

Please see this thread for complete info.
http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=8078.msg58002#msg58002

Can someone please compare your results, and give us any recommendations on how we can override these options without breaking the automouting system so that we can check if that is the issue.
Thanks

Users / unwanted behavior in stopping media with the floorplan
« on: July 25, 2009, 05:03:50 am »
Finally I figured out an easy way to reproduce this problem whish was bugging me for a while, can someone verify it too??
Setup: 810, alpha 2.26 or even 710, using UI2
1) Note what is the current room on the MD or Hybrid (my case office/Hybrid)
2) Play any music or video in the current room, using Media menu
3) Press F7
4) Go to the floorplan using Media menu
5) Stop the media by pressing the Off button above the remote control button
6) Exit the current screen by the right button of the Gyration mouse
7) now check the current room location?? (in my case it changed to Entrance)

I noticed this when I was moving media from room to room or room to squeezebox :)

Installation issues / Shuttle SN78SH7
« on: July 04, 2009, 09:36:27 am »
I just tried to use the Shuttle SN78SH7 http://us.shuttle.com/barebone/Models/SN78SH7.html as diskless MD, it booted over the internal LAN port of the Hybrid 810 latest release 2.24, when the Shuttle message came up "We announce ourself" the Hybrid displays "Data Grid Plugin Do you want to use" ???? I haven't seen this before !!!
Just to see what will happen I selected yes, then the Hybrid went into wired loop I had to force reboot and I'm still waiting for it to come up!!

Any input really appreciated.
