16  LinuxMCE / Users / Re: Latest apt-get upgrade shows 530 files?? on: November 02, 2011, 04:47:14 pm
After a power outage, I was unfortunately doing too many things at once and did not notice this lucid entry until I had already said "Y". What is the best way to undo the lucid modifications that this upgrade added to my LMCE? Sound from the MD through toslink is not working and it seems to have messed up Insteon control.

Many thanks for any advice.
17  LinuxMCE / Users / Re: [SOLVED] Sound | ALSA | V4L | disagrees about version of symbol in dmesg on: October 11, 2011, 07:13:44 pm
I'm not sure where to put this, but I was having this same problem for a long time with the additional headache that when I downgraded alsa to 1.0.17 I lost my optical out on my realtek ALC888 sound card built into the motherboard. So it was either have the solo microphone and usb soundcards that could be used as squeezeslaves or have optical out. Looking at some posts that focused on this sound card it seemed that the problem might be alsa 1.0.23. So I downloaded and compiled alsa 1.0.24 on my lmce 8.10 setup and then rebooted. Curiously, even though cat /proc/asound/version still showed 1.0.23, something was fixed: I had optical out sound and I could see my usb sound card through squeezeslave -L. I'll keep testing to see if this broke something else but for now I am a happy camper. Just thought this might help someone in the same boat.
18  LinuxMCE / Installation issues / Roaming Orb and iPad2 on: September 29, 2011, 08:56:22 pm
Has anyone noticed that the default screen orientation on the iPad2 for Roaming Orb is upside down--if you are using the magnetic iPad cover? It will not reverse if you orient the ipad the other way. (This is not the case for the Dianemo orbiter, but since the Dianemo orbiter is significantly slower I would prefer to use the Roaming orb.)

Is there an easy work around for this or do I need to make a request to the developer to reorient the default screen 180 degrees?

Thanks in advance!
19  LinuxMCE / Users / Re: xine-lib and video playback issues? on: April 18, 2011, 05:44:57 pm
Seems to work for me as well. Thanks!

BTW, the second step of installing the pluto-xine-player....deb is no longer needed as it appears that the most recent upgrade of 8.10 contains a later version. This step downgraded the file so I did an apt-get install pluto-xine-player which seems to have installed the later version.
One error I got with this step is that "Alsa not installed yet. Can't run alsaconf" is this correct? Should I install alsa and then re-run it? Thanks again.
20  LinuxMCE / Users / Re: Anyone else had problems loading orbiters after update upgrade today? on: March 10, 2011, 04:05:58 pm
Hmm...I am wondering if this might be a networking problem, at least in part, where the Orbiter never gets delivered to the screen so all you see, in my case, is the mouse pointer. Do you use a Realtek network card with a R8168/9 driver by any chance? Kind of grasping at straws here...
21  LinuxMCE / Users / Re: Anyone else had problems loading orbiters after update upgrade today? on: March 10, 2011, 03:32:41 pm
Wow. How long ago did you upgrade? This sounds scary. Is there a way to downgrade to previous version that worked within LMCE while this gets sorted out?

Some more snooping around and I found that the orbiter thinks it is doing its job. Here is a section of the OrbiterGen.log.1 in /var/log/pluto when I did a Full Regen all orbiters web admin command at the suggestion of posde:

"21" is the core/hybrid MD and "176" is a standalone MD. So the orbiter is merrily doing its job apparently even though the screen is showing nothing in my case. So now I am wondering if it is the hand off to the next step in the launch Manager process that is freezing things up in my case. Any thoughts?
22  LinuxMCE / Users / Re: Anyone else had problems loading orbiters after update upgrade today? on: March 10, 2011, 02:47:22 pm
Thanks for the input. I have rebooted several times and tried to do a Full Regen on each orbiter but they are always stuck at the point where the bar shows 100% and the caption is: Regen Status: Done. Underneath that it says "Orbiter Generation in Process" and every few seconds the screen refreshes on the web admin but nothing changes. I am attaching a screen shot to let you see what is going on.  Any ideas greatly appreciated.
23  LinuxMCE / Users / Re: Anyone else had problems loading orbiters after update upgrade today? on: March 10, 2011, 01:08:54 pm
Thanks for the suggestion. I should have mentioned that this was on a core/hybrid.

Out of curiosity, I updated/upgraded a MD to see if it was just on the core. Nope, now my formerly functional MD is hung on "Done rebuilding NIS Cache."

Any suggestions as to how to troubleshoot this? I really don't want to have to reinstall as everything was working perfectly until this upgrade.

Could some of the mysql databases need to be rebuilt?

Many thanks again
24  LinuxMCE / Users / Anyone else had problems loading orbiters after update upgrade today? on: March 10, 2011, 01:11:00 am
My formerly perfectly functional 8.10 loads all the way to "Orbiter Generation Done" and then hangs with a mouse pointer on a black background after I did a apt-get update/ upgrade today. I tried the black screen approach and successfully loaded the correct screen and audio settings again. So that is not it.

From Web admin /Wizard/Devices/Orbiters it says all the MD orbiters have regen'd 100% but it just hangs there (I deleted the iphone orbiter because it was getting stuck at 5%.) Web admin will not let me do a quick reload router or any other function that might break it free.

Does anyone else have this experience or suggestions about how I might fix it? Many thanks in advance..

25  LinuxMCE / Users / Re: Aquired a 1st Gen apple TV, Can it be used for anything more than a door stop? on: March 10, 2011, 12:37:37 am
I've been using mine as a separate AV device that gets loaded from the media tab. I used the blu-ray template as I had already installed awkward TV on it (OK, I cheated and used http://firecore.com/ but you can also hack it yourself if you search on awkward TV) and the crystal HD card ($50) so that you can get 1080p from it. XBMC comes installed with the firecore version so I've been using the apple TV for blu ray movies and h264 files from mythTV that LMCE does not currently play through the XBMC player. This gives me a variety of video streams such as TWIT, TED, Bild.de etc. that are built in. Also found a stream from XBMC to watch what is going on in the Middle East through Al Jazeera English which is a BBC-based service and have to agree with Hilary that this is real journalism. Translating the remote to LMCE has been a bit challenging so I generally use one of the free xbmc remotes for iphone or android. If you got it for free, it is definitely worth using as a way to extend LMCE's media reach.

Hope this helps.
26  LinuxMCE / Users / Re: XBMC running on iPhone, iPad and Apple TV 2 (Arm cpu version) on: February 14, 2011, 07:42:54 pm
As a fan of both LMCE and XBMC I am interested in hearing more about how you have approached integrating these two.

Because of some of the current limitation in LMCE (not playing blu ray and MythTV recordings, primarily) and some of the easy-to-access media built into XBMC (German News programs, the entire This Week in Tech lineup, the TED conferences) that will stream to your computer with only a few mouse clicks of setup, I added XBMC Dharma to my LMCE 8.10 box as an application by just following the ubuntu and linux build directions from XBMC's website and the LMCE Wiki.

So far, nothing seems to have been broken in LMCE, most of the USB/UIRT remote commands work automatically and I have added one more thing I can do from my LMCE box. As a plus, I tell XBMC where my blu ray player drive is and where the MythTV recordings are in the file structure and I can play them with very good quality. It is a win-win as far as I can tell. Although I am technically limited in terms of developing for LMCE and what I have done still needs to be tested more extensively I would be happy to contribute any way I could to see these two become more integrated. Perhaps the Hulu Player integration that was so well done by tschak909 could be a template for such a project? At present, I don't know enough to conceptually be able to begin. Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated.
27  LinuxMCE / Installation issues / Re: New installation: mplayer + vdpau = not playing m2ts files on: February 01, 2011, 06:29:24 pm
Is this work around still working for you with all the updates? I tried a dist-upgrade after the end of life with the new sources.list when I was trying to install something new and it basically broke the system. I had to do a new install--which on my system means a lot of fooling around to get everything working again.

Also can you play recorded mythtv files in LMCE and get both video and sound after you do this? I only get video currently with these files and no sound. Many thanks!
28  LinuxMCE / Installation issues / Re: Update: Update2 diagnose why Hauppauge HDPVR will not install in 8.10 on: February 01, 2011, 06:21:37 pm
The solution to this is that my new HDPVR had a different id than what is detected by the plug-and-play scripts. Because this ID is different, LMCE refuses to install or use the device even if you try to install it manually--at least for me. I came up with a work around that I can write up if anyone needs it. I had assumed that this would be fixed in a future release (it is a matter of accepting the last digit of the ID as different from those specified in the script) and since no one else seems to have encountered this problem I hesitated to throw it into the mix.

Once installed, HDPVR works great and I can highly recommend it. Excellent HD playback with all commercials removed if you elect to post process.

However, there still seems to be a bug in playing back the h264 files that mythtv generates when you record a program if you try and use the LMCE player--mplayer I am assuming--to play it back. On my system, with VDPAU enabled, you get video but no sound. Plays back fine in mythtv as they have their own player.

Also plays back fine in XBMC if you use LMCE as a UPnP server. Given the problems in playing back these files as well as .m2ts files with LMCE I've been wondering if one could install XBMC as an application on the core and create an XBMC plugin--like the hulu plugin--that would play all your recorded media until these file playback issues get sorted in LMCE.

If anyone has a solution to the sound problem in LMCE playback of mythtv recorded files--please let me/us know. It would be greatly appreciated. I've tried all the hints I could find but I am still learning...
29  LinuxMCE / Users / Re: Am I the only one who can not play .m2ts or is it still not working in 8.10? on: January 31, 2011, 04:39:34 pm

30  LinuxMCE / Users / Am I the only one who can not play .m2ts? SOLVED! on: January 30, 2011, 09:48:10 pm
Hi,
I've been bugged for several months that 8.10 lets me play everything, including .mkv files through xine, everything except for .m2ts files (no video, but perfect sound) and h264 files recorded by MythTV (HD video but no sound) through mplayer. No one seems to have this problem in the forum recently (it seems that every else had problems playing .mkv files in the past). Granted, I found a post from Sept. 2010 that said mplayer did not support .m2ts files (with a work around), but I assumed that this had been fixed since then and hate messing around with the work arounds unless absolutely necessary:
http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=10690.0

If it is still not working, please, could someone let me know that this is the case--no .m2ts until further notice?

If it has been fixed and someone can help me get it working here is my situation:
I'm running VDPAU with the a nvidia GEForce 9600GT PCIe card and the lastest nvida driver 260.19.36 and I allowed nvida xconfig to overwrite my /etc/X11/xorg.conf. I'm pretty sure VDPAU is working because when I run top from the command line and play a file in either xine or mplayer it uses about 1% of the cpu.

But when I run (as root):
mplayer -vc ffh264vdpau -vo vdpau /home/public/data/videos/THE_AVIATOR/BDMV/STREAM/00000.m2ts

I get:

So now it can't open the X11 display, OK, how about gl:nomanyfmts? nope, same problem. OK, how about xv? nope, same problem.x11? nope.

I went to the nvidia team ppa and added their debs to my sources.list, but when I went to install vdpauinfo--it told me it was already there, so I didn't want to mess about with what has been installed and stopped to write this.

If anyone has any hints, suggestions, etc. many thanks in advance.
