That did the trick.  Thank you.

Installation issues / 810 Doesn't recognize discs
« on: January 08, 2010, 02:28:24 pm »
Just installed 810 and everything seemed to go very smoothly.  My only issue is that it doesn't recognize a disc when I put it in the drive.  When I go to manage drives, I see the rip, play buttons etc, but when I click play it tells me it can't play that type of media.  I also read a post that said to go into the web admin and make sure the media director config specifies that the system has a dvd drive.  It was not checked, so I did that and reloaded.  I then put a disc in again and still nothing.  I again went to manage drives and now there are two sets of rip and play buttons, but neither work.

I'm building an outdoor movie setup and need to know if this is possible.  I'd like to make use of my second zone on my inside AV receiver to produce my sound which is wired to my outdoor speakers while using a laptop for my MD outside.  My hopes are to just connect my laptop to an outside ethernet jack.  Is it possible to have the core output sound while the MD just outputs video.

As a test I installed Ubuntu 8.10 and XBMC and HDMI Audio worked.  I was just hoping it was just the kernel.  I can't imagine the KDE is causing the issue.  I'm going to try running the the alsaconfig to see if that gets the sound detected properly.  I'm not sure if the the ALSA upgrade script did this.

Updated to the latest ALSA 1.0.19 running kernel 2.6.28.5.  I see the HDMI in both the aplay -l and aplay -L now.  Still can't hear any sound using aplay.  lspci shows that the sound device exists but says it's an unknown device.  Anyone know where I go from here?  Seems like I'm so close.

In reference to the audio over HDMI i've updated to most current kernel.  I see the HDMI in the aplay -l, but not in the aplay -L.  I'm not updating to the latest ALSA and will report my findings.  If it is detected and working from the command line, what would I select in the AV Wizard since there isn't an HDMI audio option?

Installation issues / Re: Installing on Kubuntu 8.04

Just wanted to be able to have one hdmi cable coming out of my av receiver going to my tv.  This way I can watch tv/movies in 7.1 or through the tv speakers.  Also, less wire snaking through the walls.

I guess my concern is that if go with 7.10 and use spdif for now and start to build my media library, will 8.10 just be an upgrade, so my library will stay in place.

Installation issues / Installing on Kubuntu 8.04
« on: February 12, 2009, 09:16:33 pm »
Is it possible to install in Kubuntu 8.04?  I'm having all kinds of trouble updating the kernel and getting all of my devices recognized again, so I'd like to try 8.04 with MCE on top of that.  I know it uses KDE 3.5 which I'm guessing that's where the dependencies exist between MCE and the Kubuntu.  Is this true?

Has anyone gotten HDMI Audio working yet?  I followed this thread: http://ubuntu-ky.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=6714092, but I don't see the HDMI device when I when I do 'aplay -l'.  I only see the analog and spdif devices.  I think this is my main hurdle.  Any thoughts?

Users / getxmls just hangs
« on: February 10, 2009, 09:27:09 pm »
At install time I did not have a internet connection therefore my Add Software was blank.  I attempted to run the 'update list' from the admin and it appears to hang.  I then proceeded to try the command line approach 'sudo /usr/pluto/bin/getxmls' and that also hangs.

I think I have a temporary workaround using this thread http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=6779.0.  Anyone have a more permanent solution.

I followed the direction in the wiki, but it still refers to eth0 as my external interface.  Here is my interfaces file:

auto lo
        iface lo inet loopback
        address 127.0.0.1
        netmask 255.0.0.0

auto wlan0
        iface wlan0 inet dhcp

auto eth0
        iface eth1 inet static
        address 192.168.80.1
        netmask 255.255.255.0

The exports file is empty following installation.  The dhcp3-server file has just eth0 for the internal network.

Installation issues / Wireless NIC for external interface

How do I change my external interface to wlan0 and put the internal interface at eth0 instead of eth0:0?

I didn't since I read that it works out of the box.  I will try that now.  Thanks for the help.
