Here's something that's gonna toss yer noodle around,... (Keep in mind, this is a net installed 1004 that I just ran the upgrade on, don't know if that matters)...  I made the bone headed move of not only deleting my MDs (decided rebuilding was easier), nothing to report on that yet,... But, I also (here's the bone headed part) deleted my xorg.conf from the Core thinking it'd automatically dump me into the AVwizard to reset the Core's xorg.conf (old xorg.conf renamed to xorg.oldone and left in the directory),... That didn't happen... in the least.

Here's the thing,... The Core/Hybrid booted graphically,... UI2 and all,... There's NO xorg.conf in the /etc/X11 directory, just the xorg.oldone,... and the typical Kubuntu auto Xsession crapolla you get from a standard Kubuntu 10.04 install...

But so far, everything appears to work... MythTV,... Live TV playback,... KDE desktop, etc., etc...

Let me know if there's something I should try to run to see if running it this way breaks anything... But for now,... I'm just going to keep running it this way,... rebuild my MDs, and see if it affects anything...

Oh,... Forgot to mention, Intel chipsets on everything.

Does Intel require us to rebuild MD images on upgrade, or is that only the nVidia GTs???...

Am I missing anything?!

Looks like the bulk of what I'm going to be needing to examine is in and the templates subdirectory, particularly nis-client.template... correct?! Right track?!

I don't know if this helps,... but that CPU (E-350) features an integrated Radeon HD 6310 GPU,...

PS: I found this;

Seems the XBMC folks have got this going as good as anyone...

Can someone point me to the scripts that touch NIS user setup in the system?

I'm interested in looking at the scripts involved in setup/installation and post-setup user creation/deletion...
I've looked at/through the SVN,...

... and I can't find any scripts/source code/etc for it... Lot's of stuff there,... I don't know where to look. I'm lost.

Did you delete the non working ones or try to fix them? Delete them. Make new ones.

Be patient as you complete the steps for creating a Web Orbiter,... Wait for the progress bars on the Orbiter screen in the Web Admin to go through both passes before proceeding.

Do quick reload routers between steps...

PS: Don't just do a simple 4:3 screen, also chose a default skin and a "normal" screen resolution (like, 800x600). Don't get fancy on your first one. I'm half inclined to think that not all skins work with all screen dimensions and resolutions. After making one or two,... then experiment. I broke my first web Orbiter by rushing and trying to get fancy with my second... I ended up deleting them both and starting over.

You also might try the Win (said Web Orbiter initially) Orbiter in Win7. I don't run Windows, but I noticed there were special instructions for Vista. Somebody with Win7 can better tell you if that would work. The Windows Orbiter is better than the Web Orbiter, by a long shot (faster refreshes, etc). I run it in wine within Linux.

Try running the website through Google Translate.

I had a similar problem when setting up the web Orbiter with non-standard screen geometries. You might want to try a 4:3 geometry and a more standard screen size. I don't know about IE or Windows, but the web Orbiter works in Chrome, Firefox and Dolphin under Android. So, I assume any platform with those browsers should work.

The Windows Orbiter works in wine on Linux. If you run OS X, you could try wine under that platform,... can't hurt to give either a shot, if you run under those platforms.

beware of this cheap bluetooth , many do not work with wiimote and symbian phones,
just my two cents

Yeah, they're definitely inferior, but if you are only using them to detect Bluetooth, ... well,... Let's put it this way,... you can't go that wrong for $2...

Bluetooth adapters can be had for under $2 US, if you don't mind that they all have the same MAC address (and can't be changed, either);

I have a small handful of the ones in the link above. USB extension cables would cost you more than they do...

Another as in additional or as in replacement?

So, there's no way under NIS to allow unprivileged logins from the moons under the current setup,... hmmm,..

Would switching around the NIS key file ownership/location situation break other things, under the current setup?

When you say that it is important that all logins are as root,... does this have to do with key file ownership?

Try MakeHuman;

It creates the mesh, etc. for the whole body, but you can export to Blender to do the animation, just focusing on the head. It also creates controls for animating the face (and body), but those can be challenging to use (like operating a marionette). The hair typically does not export (you probably would need to do the hair yourself, or find a mesh you can import).
