Installation issues / Hauppauge WinTV-Go installation
« on: January 21, 2009, 07:49:57 pm »
Hi, I found an TV capturing card in one of my old computers. I added it to my LinuxMCE system . I think linux has recognized it. On the card there was a sticker with WinTV-Go and it has a BT848 chip. I run the setup wizard in the orbiter. In the Media wizard it does not show this card as input. I found some information on the wiki but not if I have to do something before this card should be detected. Can someone tell me what steps I need to take or point me to the right wiki page ?

Result out off the lspci -v | less command
00:0e.0 Multimedia video controller: Brooktree Corporation Bt848 Video Capture (rev 12)
Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 32, IRQ 18
        Memory at e6800000 (32-bit, prefetchable) [size=4K]

I hope I have the right Hauppage type as there is nothing more on the card as the above and I do not have a box anymore.

Users / Re attaching deleted device id storage
« on: January 19, 2009, 10:39:59 pm »
I added a Freecom USB drive to my hybrid system. When detected I told the system to put the MCE file structure. There is one directory but I do not see any other folders if I look through the KDE desktop. When ripping a CD a get the option to use the disk but the ripping fails.

Do I need to do more before I can use the drive. I looked at this page on the wiki but it is not clear to me:
http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Storage_Devices

In the router I find the following error:
opendir1 /mnt/device/34/public/data/audio/ failed: No such file or directory

I quess It did not create the directory structure. Can I recreate it with the command and if that fails can I just copy the structure from the internal disk ?

Users / picture playlist and slide show
« on: January 19, 2009, 05:49:32 pm »
Hi, I have seen some posts on the forum about the implementation of picture slide shows, playlist etc. Is there anything implemented as I could not find it back on the wiki. The minimum what I would like to be able to do is to show a slideshow with some picked pictures (not screensaver).

If this is available but not documented on the wiki then I will make the page as I am implementing it on my system.

I still have skipping sound in LinuxMCE. I found a solution while I am in my KDE desktop. By configuring Xine or Mplayer plugin to use Audio output OSS audio plays fine. I have three questions:

1) Would it be possible to use OSS output in MCE (how)
2) Is it good practice to do so and what are the consequences
3) Who has ideas to solve the Alsa output as I quess Alsa is the automatic one choosen.

The integrated sound on my mother board is Realtek ALC650 codec see output of the following command:
lspci -v | less

00:11.5 Multimedia audio controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT8233/A/8235/8237 AC97 Audio Controller (rev 50)
Subsystem: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. A7V8X Motherboard (Realtek ALC650 codec)
        Flags: medium devsel, IRQ 19
        I/O ports at e000 [size=256]
        Capabilities: <access denied>

Users / .kar karaoke files playback (midi)
« on: January 16, 2009, 05:13:18 pm »
Is Linux MCE capable of playing back .kar files. My understanding is that these are midi files including the lyrics.

I add a file if people want to try..

Installation issues / No use of swap memory
« on: January 16, 2009, 09:29:34 am »
I have linuxmce 7.10 RC2 running on a older system with only 768 MB of memory. System is running fine. When I look in System load tool I see that the memory is completely used. No issue with that but I see that I have about 2 GB of swap memory that is almost not used 37 MB of 2 GB. Is this normal or do I need to change a setting so it will be used aswell.

Do more people see this ?

Hi trying to install all codecs needed to play windows content and DVD´s.

Followed the wiki.
http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Restricted_Software_Installation_Guide

Get the following message in my console.
linuxmce@dcerouter:~$ sudo apt-get install kubuntu-restricted-extras
Reading package lists... Done

Installation issues / NVIDIA settings are not working after reboot
« on: January 14, 2009, 03:17:59 pm »
I have an Asus VT8420 VGA card (TI4200) connected to my TV with SVHS. After installing the latest drivers from NVIDIA that I found for this card 96..... I was able to run the NVIDIA settings tool. I was able to get the picture nice steady on my screen. When I reboot and go back to my KDE desktop the screen is not steady anymore (lines move). Just opening the NVIDIA settings tool solves this (settings are still in there). Does anyone have an idea on what is going on or how to solve this.

Since installing this I also lost my screen on my VGA screen and it does not come back even when opening the AVWizard at start up. The initial Kubuntu screen is visable on the monitor.

Hope someone recognizes this and can help me solve it

When playing audio streams from the internet the sounds keeps skipping. I have read on other forums that you can change the buffers of Xine. I thought Xine is also used for playing audio streams from the internet.

Is this true and where can I change the buffer in LinuxMCE ?
