Users / Mythtv recordings are choppy in Xine
« on: December 07, 2009, 07:26:58 pm »
Since the upgrade to beta2, I notice that all of my HD recordings in Mythtv get choppy and/or stop for brief moments when played in Xine. Does this make sense to anyone that knows more about the changes in Beta2? It seems to me that the high quality/bitrate/size is too much for my MD/GPU.

I have tried to find a way to reduce the quality or size of the recordings and see if the stopping... stops, but I don't know enough about Mythtv yet to risk the possibility of breaking something I can't fix. And I don't want to go through the trouble if someone else already knows the problem or found a solution.

Any ideas? Anyone else notice the choppy/stopping video?

Users / MythTV - 4 simultaneous encoders from 2 tuners (hdhomerun)!
« on: December 07, 2009, 06:36:38 pm »
I was mucking around with Mythtv, and broke it. In my efforts to fix what I did, I now have 4 encoders from a single hdhomerun box. I had thought I screwed it up again, but was curious and set 4 shows to record. All 4 shows recorded successfully. Needless to say I was thrilled. I did a bit of research and found that mythtv can take advantage of multiplexing.

Has anyone else noticed or taken advantage of this. And shouldn't LinuxMCE set up multiplex when installed?

Installation issues / Speak in house not working after 810b2?
« on: December 07, 2009, 04:02:19 am »
I tried 998 to speak in the house, but received a message that it is not a valid conference number. I also tried to speak to the person in the house from the alarm IVR menu, and received the same invalid conference message.

I made changes to the VPN config/scripts, and I have verified that it works in 8.10b2. Drop the script in /usr/pluto/bin and apply the patches.

THANK YOU!!! It works perfectly. I punched myself in the face for not thinking of it.

Beta2 is beautiful!

Installation issues / Beta2 screwed up the video on all of my MDs
« on: December 03, 2009, 03:48:14 am »
When I upgraded, I got an error that the MD could not initialize opengl. I went ahead and did a clean install, and now during the video setup, any video res over 640x480 is screwed up. When the MD comes up I still get the openGL error.

I have the Nvidia 7200 low profile cards.

Is the Nvidia 7200 no longer supported with beta2? Anyone have a clue what I could try, I have been working on it for days. My whole system is useless right now.

And idea or desire to use ZFS and RAIDZ on the core? Would it cause any problems?

OpenVPN and PPTP have been combined and are on the same ticket. The SVN diff is in, so hopefully it will make it to the code soon.

Thanks for your help.

Could that be that my headset is the problem? I use a LOGITECH PC HEADSET 860 and it has just a microphone and speaker plug, no USB.

you may need to fiddle with the OS settings to get the "plugs" to work properly.

Just follow Thom's advice.

Just create the iPhone orbiter, and toss it on iTunes Store for $10. I'd buy it.

Thanks. I have been reading forums all day, looking for answers. I'll go pick up a usb controller and check it out. Also saw the post about the xbox 360 controller and linux support. I may give that a try as well.

Has anyone gotten the nes or atari games working? I am only able to launch MAME games, and even then I am not able to control them. Is there documentation anywhere on how to control the games? I can use the directional buttons, but that is all I found. Can I use any sort of joystick or controller?

I put NES and ATARI ROMs in their folders, but they appear in the media list without any attributes. But the attributes do show up if I put them in the MAME folder. Are MAME games the only game working at the moment?

ew ew ew

guys, let's try to implement this using SSH and ACTUALLY INTEGRATE IT INTO THE SYSTEM.

lol. Just demonstrating that pptp client can be installed and used if anyone really wants to. I have other stuff that I want to see more, so this feature will take a back seat.... unless someone wants to donate and motivate ;) J/K

You can create events right now for do not disturb as I understand it. I found a post by Thom. Once I have the time, I am going to try and set up respond events and timed events that trigger a user do not disturb.

Use the telecom plugin to set the user mode.

The values can be determined by looking up the relevant PK_ for a given table:

mysql> SELECT PK_HouseMode, Description from HouseMode;

+--------------+-----------------------+
| PK_HouseMode | Description           |
+--------------+-----------------------+
|            1 | Unarmed - at home     |
|            2 | Armed - away          |
|            3 | Armed - at home       |
|            4 | Sleeping              |
|            5 | Entertaining          |
|            6 | Armed - Extended away |
+--------------+-----------------------+
6 rows in set (0.02 sec)

mysql> select PK_UserMode, Description FROM UserMode;
+-------------+----------------+
| PK_UserMode | Description    |
+-------------+----------------+
|           1 | At Home        |
|           2 | Away           |
|           3 | Sleeping       |
|           4 | Do not disturb |
+-------------+----------------+
4 rows in set (0.03 sec)
