There is already an option to add personal pictures, check the wiki or search the forum. There is also an option that I use where LinuxMCE pulls pictures from my personal flickr account called flickrfetcher. Flickrfetcher can be configured many different ways for a variety of picture sources.

I understand that, and am doing that right now. My suggestion is: have the flickr script pull pictures from a folder if a box is checked on the admin page. That way we don't have to go through and actually select the photos in the web admin every time we want to add photos. Putting pictures in a folder is much simpler and allows for scripting. I can write a script to put pictures in that folder from various sources, and the flickr script then pulls them automatically. Make sense?

There are way to many manual steps in LinuxMCE. Since automatically downloading clip art and attributes has been covered already, I wont get into that.

Feature requests & roadmap / Mix personal pictures with flickr screen saver
« on: February 23, 2009, 04:39:24 pm »
I would be nice to pick a third option in the web admin. Have flickr also search a selected photo folder and add those pictures to the flickr screen saver. This way we can mix some personal pictures in with the flickr pictures. I like the random flickr pictures, but would also like to see an occasional personal picture. A check box to enable it in the web admin would be perfect.

I switched to VGA 720p instead of component 720p; I can now play the high def movies and the menus are smooth. UI2 blended works very well too except for the tearing which I understand is expected. The only problem left... while watching live tv, the menus still take a long time to pop up and are slow to respond. I'm still working on that and will post again if any of the wiki/forum recommendations work.

** A thought for anyone wondering - VGA out can be easily converted to component, for those who do not have VGA inputs on their tv.

use the orbiter gui, add software, to install them..

That failed, so I tried on the console. Neither worked. I did get it installed manually, I just thought it might need to be adressed.

All of a sudden, w32codecs will not install. I'll have to install it manually.

root@moon61:~# apt-get install w32codecs
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Package w32codecs is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source
E: Package w32codecs has no installation candidate

I thought about updating the driver, but I'm using nvidia 6200 and from what I read in the wiki and forum, the latest driver will not make a difference and could break X. I did confim that with the MD hardware acceleration set to opengl, the menu responds perfectly, but HD video playback is very choppy. SD is also choppy sometimes, but barely noticable. With the hardware acceleration set to xv, all playback is smooth but the menus are slow, choppy, and leave the black boxes. I am still working on it and will post any findings.

I made the changes in the wiki. Disabled De-Interlacing, changed to libmpeg2, and enabled opengl. I also changed the hardware acceleration on the media director to opengl. I made sure vblank in nvidia-settings was on, and verified that useevents was true. Now the menu responds very well. The HD video is now very choppy and unwatchable. I have tried many combinations of the above setting, but can't seem to get good HD playback AND good menu response times. I have followed all advice on the wiki and on the other threads, with no success.

I finally got a GeForce 6200 in my MD, and turned on UI2 masked. Everything works well so far except live tv in MythTV. Live tv looks great, but the problem shows when I try to use my gyro mouse to navigate channels, foward/rewind, etc. I have to wait a very long time for the menu to come up, and there is a big lag while moving through the menus. I also see the dreaded black boxes when I exit the menu. Everything is very responsive when controlling tv through the orbitor. I have tried a lot of the suggestions in the forum, but none seem to make a difference.

There are some guides out there for Ireland. You need to use the /usr/share/xmltv/tv_grab_uk_rt/channel_ids file.

You'll find some directions here: http://fionn-mythtv.blogspot.com/2008/01/program-guide-setup.html

You're right. I didn't take into account the disk cache. Brain fart...

Users / LMCE using too much memory
« on: February 21, 2009, 02:28:33 am »
My LMCE core regularly uses over 3G of my memory, and I often need to reboot. LMCE is using 1G the minute it boots, and will stay there until I start doing something. When watching live tv, memory always maxes out. From what I read on here, that shouldn't happen. I am tempted to reinstall and start over, but I'd rather not go through that again. Also, would be nice to have a highmem kernel :) Memory is cheap, and 8G would be easy.

Users / Re: MythTV time off by 5 hours!
« on: February 20, 2009, 02:08:47 am »
Should I set the offset?

I scheduled a recording, and it worked perfectly and on time. Also, the guide is correct, the guide show times that is. The only thing off is the actual time that Myth displays. I thought that the offset had to do with the schedules, correct?

Also, both mythweb and mythfilldatabase shows the correct time.

Users / MythTV time off by 5 hours!
« on: February 19, 2009, 11:42:04 pm »
I have been fighting MythTV on a fresh Linuxmce install. Myth TV time is showing -5 hours off. I am in Eastern time zone, and the OS timezone is set properly. LinuxMCE time zone is set properly. I have been working on it for 2 days, and even did a complete reinstall with the same result. I am pulling my hair out.

linuxmce@dcerouter:/usr/pluto/bin$ date

linuxmce@dcerouter:/usr/pluto/bin$ date -u
Thu Feb 19 22:37:51 UTC 2009
linuxmce@dcerouter:/usr/pluto/bin$ ls -al /etc/localtime
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 36 2009-02-19 17:16 /etc/localtime -> /usr/share/zoneinfo/America/New_York

Anyone know what I should try next?

I thought about upping the timeout, but I would hate to have a 1 hour timeout. I'll have to live with it until the logic is added I guess :( Hulu is fantastic!

Thanks tschak909!

Is there any way to prevent the screen saver from activating while watching video from the web? 10 minutes into a video on hulu, and the screen saver activates. I don't want to disable the screensaver.
