Users / lmce games
« on: September 30, 2009, 05:00:09 pm »
Has anyone gotten the nes or atari games working? I am only able to launch MAME games, and even then I am not able to control them. Is there documentation anywhere on how to control the games? I can use the directional buttons, but that is all I found. Can I use any sort of joystick or controller?

I put NES and ATARI ROMs in their folders, but they appear in the media list without any attributes. But the attributes do show up if I put them in the MAME folder. Are MAME games the only game working at the moment?

Users / Suspend issues in 810?
« on: September 23, 2009, 03:24:35 am »
I was pleasantly surprised at how easy suspend was to setup in 810, but I found a problem. Whenever a MD resumes, the screen prompts for a router reload. I can't figure out why, but it is very annoying to have a router reload screen pop up while watching a movie when someone resumes a MD in another room. Anyone else notice this, or am I missing something.

False alarm, perms were somehow changed on /home/coverartscan, so the pics couldn't be downloaded.

Developers / Announcement: PPTP VPN functionality
« on: August 30, 2009, 04:28:40 am »
I have added PPTP functionality and a PPTP link to the Users section of the web admin. I am working on the wiki page next. Hopefully someone skilled in PHP could double check my code, since this is my first.

Here are the patch files
http://donpaul.info/PPTP_Patch.tar.gz

Here is the script
http://donpaul.info/Setup_PPTP.sh.gz

This is tested on 7.10, and it works for me. Once I build an 8.10 system, I will test it there as well. Let me know if there are any problems.

Users / PPTP VPN - iPhone VPN access
« on: August 27, 2009, 06:30:03 am »
Has anyone installed pptpd on their core yet? With pptpd, we can use the iPhone (or any client) to vpn into the core. Really nice for using the web orbiter remotely. I set it up in 5 minutes, and it works great.

For those interested:

# Get the server installed.

sudo apt-get install pptpd

# Edit /etc/pptpd.conf file to setup the IP address for connected clients. Enable localip and remoteip to something like

localip 192.168.80.150
remoteip 192.168.80.151-155

# Use /etc/resolv.conf to find the DNS of the system, and edit /etc/ppp/pptpd-options to enable ms-dns – something like

ms-dns 192.168.80.1

# Set the VPN account by editing /etc/ppp/chap-secrets. Replace user and password with whatever you like.
user pptpd password *

# Restart the server by executing

sudo /etc/init.d/pptpd restart

# Open port 1723 to the core (Advanced > Network > Firewall Rules)

# Setup VPN in the iPhone by General > Network > VPN > PPTP. Enable Auto encryption level. Keep RSA SecurID off. Configure with the user and password you set up.

It should work now.

Right now we can choose to ring a MD or not, but there is no option to suppress ringing a MD if media is playing. I would like phone calls to ring my MDs, but only if I am not watching media.

Also, it would be nice if there was a caller ID function during media playback, similar to what Dish offers. That way our media isn't interrupted, but we know who is calling.

Users / Gyration Remote - F6 & F8 (roses) - **FOUND SOLUTION!**
« on: March 27, 2009, 09:20:29 pm »
I followed these instructions: http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Using_the_Gyration_Remote_GYR3101US_(Non-Fiire_Chief)

Everything works except the F-key mappings. Is there a way to configure the device template for the F6-8 keys so I can pull up the ambiance and channel roses? I was able to get ambiance by mapping yellow to the volume buttons:

yellow,174,R (volume up button)
yellow,176,R (volume down button)

But how can I map the Channel/Chapter Fast Forward/Rewind and Pause functions (i tried blue, that that didn't do it).

Users / New Wiki Page: spa-2000 for analog phones
« on: March 17, 2009, 05:55:23 am »
I added a new wiki for those who want to use the spa-2000 to connect analog phones to LinuxMCE. Great for those who want to use a fax machine and/or plain old cordless phones.

Users / UpdateMedia scanning LiveTv files
« on: March 14, 2009, 05:50:46 am »
Why is UpdateMedia scanning and tagging the LiveTv recordings? Everything I watch, including all channels I scan, are updated and tagged by UpdateMedia. Then there are a ton of orphaned .id3 files and sql data once those recordings are expired. To top it off, many but not all of the live tv shows are viewed in my video list (with LiveTv: prefix), and that is very annoying.

Did I do something wrong, or is that how it was designed to work? Hopefully I did something wrong, and can correct it.

I have searched the forums and wiki, and can find nothing that really addresses the issue.

Saw this today. I would love to see more of these, and have a feeling we will with the popularity of home media centers. If I can convince the wife, I may pick one up and give it a try. Hell, it comes with a 30-day trial!

Users / Mount /home to new hard drive?
« on: March 07, 2009, 03:40:16 am »
I am adding a new hard drive to the core, and want /home to use it. I want media separate from the OS drive, and will use hardware mirroring. Would anyone see a problem with mounting /home to a separate hard drive? I'll do the typical fdisk/mkfs to partition/format it, and place the mount point in /etc/fstab. I do not want LinuxMCE to treat it as a disk.

Users / Over 3000 mounts for USB hard drive?? Core hanging...
« on: March 01, 2009, 07:15:23 pm »
Disclaimer: LinuxMCE is running flawless, fast, and I love it. I am sure that any problem discussed here is not caused by LinuxMCE in any manner; it is most likely the result of the tools used by LinuxMCE or the operating system itself. It could also be caused by the end user, but that is highly unlikely. ;-)

Would anyone know why my USB disks are being mounted repeatedly to /tmp? And why they hang around indefinately? And how do I stop it so I can mount them permanently? This only happens when I use a USB drive, and it is not isolated to any single one. I also tried on a different core, and had the same result.

There are currently over 3000 mount processes hogging my core:
dcerouter_106554:/etc# ps -ef | grep mount | wc -l
3295
dcerouter_106554:/etc# ps -ef | grep mount
root     31242     1  0 13:08 pts/5    00:00:00 /bin/bash -e /bin/mount /dev/sdb1 /tmp/tmp.mHsMS31235
root     31243 31242  0 13:08 pts/5    00:00:00 /bin/mount.wraped /dev/sdb1 /tmp/tmp.mHsMS31235
....

This happens every morning, and I have to reboot in order to clear it up. If I try to watch media, the MD will hang.

Would be nice to be able to exclude a genre/type/source from view in media. Currently if there are 12 genre, and I want to see all but 1, I have to click the 11 I want. There should also be a way to select for exclusion. Maybe click once to only view that genre (button turns blue), click again to exclude (button turn red). Not sure if it is possible, but would make browsing media a lot easier.

When I switch to a different user, that user's private media is not displayed when browsing; I have to also click options, and select the user. I think it would be more fluid to see a user's private media when that user is selected. An option to view the user's private media when the user is selected would be fantastic.
