Hi Guys

I know where Thom is coming from.
I just want to say thanks to what you and the rest of the Dev Team has done.

Now I am not a programer. I know my way around linux. However I would love to be able to write someting or improve and fix things.. I am a very quick learner.. So Thom if you can help me by pointing me in the direction and maybe help me to start of with something small so I can learn.

So I don't want to tell you what we should do or how we should do it.. All I am saying is here I am, I want to help in any way I can.

I think this is a great product and  I would realy like to see it grow..

I have put my had up.

Hi guy

thanks for your reply

I have tried to install libdvdcss and w32codecs with no luck..

I have also tested my receiver, as I said I have booted up in another install on that same system, same sound config and it worked fine.
So I know my hardware work.
This is a weird one, as it does not work in lmce, but in mythbuntu it work fine..

Hi..

Well I don't know what you are doing so I will try.
to install Mercurial you go into the terminal. I think it is under K---> Systems. When it is open then you run the following..
 sudo apt-get install mercurial
It will ask you for your password(Your password you use to login)
That will do the install.. if you get any error let me know.. but you can try to make sure all your package managers is close. Cause only one can be master.
Hope this help
Chris

Users / 810 Alpha 7 No DVD playback sound
« on: June 08, 2009, 02:05:24 am »
Hi

I have been banging my head on this.
First my specs;
Asus M3N-H/HDMI,
AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ 3.0 GHz
LinuxMCE 810 Alpha 7
Kernel 2.6.28-11
alsa 1.1.20
SPDIF sound output.

Now I have installed the system all works good after the kernel and alsa upgrade. I have sound on my Movies and Music. But on my DVD playback I have nothing..
the video goes but not a beep out if the sound..
So on another disk I installed mythbuntu and tested the same hardware, to make sure it works. and what you know with kernel 2.6.28 and alsa 1.1.20 over SPDIF all works like it should..

I don't know where to start looking.

My conclusion I can make..
1) the Hardware work
2) kernel 2.6.28 with the alsa 1.1.20 work..

Can some one help me to try and fine out how I can fix this..

Thanks
Chris

Hi gumis

Have you tried to recomplie lirc yet? Can I help?

For anyone ells
I know 0.8.4a has been released, and it looks like it is not going to be added in the repo of ubuntu 8.10, My question here is are LinuxMCe going over to 0.8.4a or staying on default 0.8.3 as with the kubuntu release. and if that is the case I got steps how to get the lirc to work in 8.10, how diffrent is that from the LinuxMCE pluto install ? Will my steps that I am doing in ubuntu 8.10 work with the alpha release? just want to see if we can add the support of the Soundgrafe 0038 version to linuxmce.

No worries..
I am also trying to get this to work in LMCE. But because my hardware is so new I have to play around with 8.10 Alpha.
I would say try the IRC channel.. I am sure you will get help there..
I will keep my eye out if I find anything ells..
BTW: why the Lirc 0.8.4 fixed alot of this problems.. now I don;t know if we still have to run the two commands.. this is what I am going to find out over my time off the next two weeks.. May be worth having a look if you want..

Ok I have not got to that point yet but I know it works in myth.
can you have alook at this and see if you can change anything here..
It is a bit hard if the stuff is hardcoded..
if that is the case we would need the guys from linuxmce to help us on this one..
Have you tried asking guys in irc if someone can help you..
They are good..
#If it work you can now add to two commands to your /etc/init.d/lirc file. just past it on the top of the file and save it. remember to take the sudo out.#

hi
If you have alook at my site I know how I got it working on Mythbuntu you can have alook at the end where to add the two lines in..
I can't even get the remote to work but I think it is to do with my kernel and maybe 810
this is only a draft and points to the link you had.

Hi guys

I am also trying to get my Lirc working, I have installed the new 0810 Alpha.
Now On mythbuntu I needed to do a few patches to get my lirc working.. So with alpha beeing on 0810 I was thinking it would work if I do the same.. bit it does not look like it does.. The steps I do and patches I apply is on my site. Would this be able to be added to the lirc or can some on that knows lmce have a look and tell me where I go wrong?
I am still new with linuxmce but think I have enough linux skills..
Thanks
C

PS: here is my site with my step.. Still a draft.
