« on: March 12, 2009, 08:38:50 pm »
Yup, Fiire is no longer with us, and hasn't been for some time. While the Systems Integrator had been fulfilling orders until last week, Fiire's management left the building over a year ago.

Don't fret though, forces are at work to provide a replacement for the community. ;)

Does this mean there'll be someone providing the Fiire Remotes or it's equivalent?

Processing/Video power is handled at the MD, not the Core.

What video and how much RAM does your MD have?

Thom - I'll give it a go, _IF_ you remove that split infinitive in your last post :)

Damn, tough crowd.  Gettin' called on a split infinitive?

Note to self: Proofread the shit out of all future posts.  LOL

My MD's don't have a "Manage Disks" menu option.  This wasn't an issue until I wanted to play a disc in my Core's DVD drive.  How do I get the option to show on my MD's?

Thanks

- On a DVD Ripped on LinuxMCE, is there a way to rip just the movie itself. I would hate to have to keep buying hard drives because I have Gb's of useless special features and previews. If not, is it something the developers are looking at for the future?

As I understand it, this cannot be done due to copyright laws or some such (the man keeping you down) issue.  You mentioned using DVDFab earlier, that's a program you can use to achieve what you want, but again, be aware of the legal issues.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong here.

I use the Logitech MX keyboard/mouse set.

Works great, but honestly I've found that I almost never use it.  If I wanna browse the web, I either use my laptop or walk the 15 feet to my office computer.

collin:  Exactly right, in my circle of friends we call these people "Operating System Biggots".  I run into guys all the time that say stuff like, "Windows is terrible, Linux is best."  and then you get the "Linux is horrible, Windows is better."

To both of these types of people I find that upon questioning, they either really don't know that much about the OS they're espousing their hate for or their reasoning is faulty (because you don't like Bill Gates doesn't make Windows bad and there ARE Linux apps compatible with MS Office /palmface).  Almost invariably it's just that they aren't familiar with it and as a result jump on the hate bandwagon.

And as collin points out, the arguement is the exact same with any OS, app, interface, platform, whatever, inserted dependant on what the person you're talking to is familiar with.  It's really too bad, all these people are missing out on a lot of cool technology because they're unwilling to give things outside their comfort zone a real chance.

On a side note:  Whenever I talk to those "OS biggots" I feel both amused and sad at the same time.

Ahh, so it's a peer rating type of thing.  Thx.

Can I turn them in with my Cocoa Puffs box tops and get cool toys?  hehe

(You think I'm kidding but I still have 13 Cocoa Puffs box tops from when I was a kid.)

Yes you can just change the MAC in webadmin to the new one and it will boot.  DHCP will give the device a new IP address but that will make no difference at all.

I have done this with Fiire invisible boxes.

What does karma signify by my name?  Why do I have 3 and why did it go from 0 to 5 to 3?

The issue is, this will take a considerable amount of time due to the required research. It's at least 30 hours worth of work.

Eek!  I don't think I could foot the whole bill.  I'll boost my contribution to $200, what's your total estimate on this Thom?  Maybe if we can put a hard number on it we can get the offers rolling in.

It's interesting to me that so many people care at all about the desktop environment about LMCE.  I almost never even see it.

My core just sits there with the monitor off 95% of the time, I access webadmin from my Windows PC's in my home.  About the only time I actually go to the KDE desktop is when I have to do root access configuration or file copying and the like.

Just curious, do people typically 'use' LMCE boxes as a production PC?

I don't have one of these, I currently use Fiire remotes.  But, given the shaky ground Fiire seems to be on, I'd like to have a ready to go backup in case I couldn't get a Fiire Chief if needed.

I don't know what the cost is of something like this but I'd be willing to pitch in $100 via paypal.  If others pitch in too we should be able to cover Thom's time.

Get on board folks, time to start paying for all this excellent support.

Message me with payment info Thom, and I'll shoot the cash to ya.

« on: March 04, 2009, 04:28:59 pm »
OK, not sure what happened but I decided to put this issue on the back burner.  I setup some other timed events, power on, power off, play audio, etc.  Then I go back to this event and it's just inexplicably working.  I have no idea why but it works great now.

Also, I noticed something.  If the videos in my playlist are .dvd files, the system syncs them together, if they are .avi they play fine but not synced.
