Users / Re: Is your PVR 150, 250, 500 etc
« on: January 05, 2009, 11:34:05 pm »
I'm using a PVR250 in a Fiire Invisible box and I'm having no problems with SD video through the SVideo port.  My MD connects to my TV through the HDMI port.

Users / Re: Intermittent Network issues
« on: January 05, 2009, 11:19:20 pm »
I also had similar network/MD lock up problems.  The issue turned out to be a cable problem.  I had an MD that had an inferior patch cable.  The cable worked fine at 100Mb but failed intermittently at 1Gb.

I changed all my cable from CAT5e to CAT6 and have had no problems since.  It was probably unecessary to change all my cable but I was looking to do that at some point anyway.

An easy way to see if you have this type of failure is to plug in a 100Mb switch and see if the lock ups still occur.  If not, I'd say you have a cable problem.  I realize that this does not rule out a failing switch but in my experience, when switches fail they fail completely.  The fact that an MD reboot corrects your problem indicates that it isn't a switch problem.  Most likely poor/defective cable is causing excessive re-transmissions causing a switch "lock-up".

Hope this helps

Users / Re: 80's music video's
« on: December 30, 2008, 06:25:57 pm »
I do something similar with music videos.  I just downloaded an ass-ton of videos (avi and mpeg files) and put them in a playlist.  Works great, but I'm currently searching for a way to auto-loop them so it doesn't just stop when they get to the end.

Compatible Products & Services / Re: linuxmcestore comming soon.
« on: December 30, 2008, 05:18:34 pm »
Any news?

I've just started in LMCE and I currently buy from Fiire, but I'm beginning to get interested in products/features they don't offer. (Webpads, alarm, video surveillence, etc.)

As far as price, everybody knows that you pay for convenience and reliability, I'm more than happy to pay more for products I can feel confident will work.  I already have an IT job that keeps me busy 60-80 hours a week and I don't have the time to properly research product compatibility.  The support issue isn't paramount to me beyond RMA if necessary, I know enough about LMCE to know that it's a work in progress and it has a ways to go to becoming a "supportable" product and I'm completely OK with that.

The store is appealing to me because it will hopefully be a one stop shop for everything I want to do with my LMCE installation.  And I can buy with confidence knowing the products offered are proven to work with LMCE.  For that assurance I'll happily pay above market price.

Marketplace / Re: Experience with fiire

I too have always had good experiences with Fiire.  I'm considering buying one of those servers.  How do you like it?  Pros/Cons?

Users / Re: I have a Fiire Chief... Now What?
« on: December 30, 2008, 04:45:16 pm »
I have two Fiirechief's running on a Fiire Prestige core/hybrid and a Fiire Invisible MD.  I've never had a problem with volume or FF/RR with any of them.  Although I've never tried to really give it a work out.  I'll give it a go tonight and report back.

As far as installing anything, I never had to.  Just plugged them in and they work. (7.10RC2)

Any news on this?  I too would be willing to pay for this ability.  (Video playlists auto looping)

Users / Re: How to clone the main harddisk
« on: December 28, 2008, 02:37:39 am »
Download Hiren 9.6.  It has many disk clone tools.  You can find it on mininova.org or isohunt by searching for hiren.

I use Acronis True Image for Linux partitions.  Other utils such as Ghost will often require you to rebuild the MBR on linux boot drives after the copy.

Users / ATI All in Wonder cards.
« on: December 22, 2008, 07:44:53 pm »
I searched the Wiki and the forums but only found very vague references to these cards.

Does anyone know if LMCE supports these cards for capture and if the remote is supported?

I got a similar error to this when my dvd file name had special characters in it such as ' # @ etc.  Don't know if it's the same issue, but something to verify.

« on: December 17, 2008, 09:24:20 pm »
Update on this:

I have now tried 4 different brands of DVI>HDMI cables and every modeline I could find that even hinted that it worked with Sharp.

All have same result, picture is displayed fine but flashes black.  I've just given up and put my Fiire invisible on this TV and moved the Asus box to my Sony TV where it works fine.

I'm anxious to get an Asus eee B206 box as it has an HDMI port and dedicated graphics but Asus says they won't be released in the US until about March 09.

Sounds like a modeline issue that could be sorted with some effort.  Their verdict seems like a desperate cop-out to me, especially after it took them 4 hours to figure out.

I'd say add the TVs to the wiki and put the official Sharp party line in there.  That could at least save another poor soul 4 hours on the phone with them.  And if you find suitable modelines lateron you can post them there too.

I don't think it's an LMCE problem because the flashing occurs at boot.  Boot splash, BIOS, Post, etc.

I am using hdmi - hdmi from my abit anm2hd to sharp aquos 42 Lc64du  at 1080p and its working fine.

Yeah, HDMI>HDMI works fine, problem is that the Asus b202 doesn't have HDMI, only DVI

It might be worth noting that I had problems with a blank screen using DVI->HDMI adapter with a Pioneer LX-5080 as well. Using a different adapter helped to sort things out (the original ATI adapter worked fine.)

I thought it might be the cable at first as well, I tried two different cables (Belkin and Radio Shack), both with the same results on the Sharp and both worked fine on other TV brands.

I'm not sure where to put this in the wiki so I'm posting it here.  If someone could let me know I'd be happy to put it in the appropriate section of the wiki.

It's a very specific hardware combination so I'm not even sure it's really worth listing in the wiki.

I have two Sharp TV's, LC-C5255U and LC-C4255U (52" and 42" LCDs).  After finally getting NIC and Video straight on the eee box (big thanks to the community for the help in that).  I hooked up the eee box to my Sharp 42 using a DVI>HDMI cable and the screen was flashing black (like the TV was trying to resync).  Did the exact same thing on my 52" Sharp.  It works fine if I plugged into the VGA port but I want the VGA port for my computer and 1080p on the MD.

It worked fine on a Sony 42" and a Phillips 52".  So after roughly 4 hrs. on the phone with Sharp the ultimate verdict was "We don't support DVI>HDMI"

So ultimately, I'm just letting people know that MD DVI to Sharp Aquous 42/52 HDMI = Go outside and play hide and go fuck yourself.

Users / Screensaver panning/zoom
« on: December 09, 2008, 04:18:17 pm »
How would I go about turning off the panning/zoom of the screensaver pics.  I've disabled flickr and copied my own photos to the core and everything is working great except the panning/zoom thing.  I can't find a setting for it in WebAdmin so I'm assuming it's a file I need to edit.

Thanks

Users / totallymaxed: Asus eee video help plz?
« on: December 05, 2008, 09:53:00 pm »
Got my Asus eee box booting but the video wouldn't work in any resolution except 640x480.

After some forum requests I was told that the xorg.conf for the MD needed to be changed from Driver "vesa" to Driver "intel", however, now it boots to a black screen.

Could you post the xorg.conf you have working with the eee box?

Thanks,

Dale
