Users / does this look like a video card issue?
« on: December 19, 2008, 09:30:59 pm »
http://imagebin.ca/view/2gvq5O.html

this is a video playing on one of my MD's if you notice, there is a blue line along the left side of the screen, and across the top. The md has a nvidia video card connected to the tv via s-video cable. The space is only blue when watching a video, however it is always there, even during the AV wizard, or just on the main menu.

Marketplace / fiire chief remote
« on: December 18, 2008, 07:22:44 pm »
I was going to break down and buy a fiire chief remote today but as I went to checkout on their website I noticed that they require you to buy either 100 remotes at a time, or you had to purchase a fiire engine or fiire station to be able to purchase the remote singly. Is there any other way to buy this remote? I checked ebay and there are none listed. I just need 1 remote and 1 dongle.
Thanks,

Users / opening ports with LMCE
« on: December 17, 2008, 05:59:25 pm »
I have a NAS that has a built in FTP server that I would like to take advantage of for transferring files from work. In the setup instructions it tells you to open port 21 on your router then use your routers outside IP address when trying to connect. I assume with the way I have my equip set up it will be more difficult if possible at all.
I am running pretty much a standard set up.
Modem->Router->core->switch->NAS
What would I need to do to be able to access the FTP from work, or is this not possible?
Thanks,

Users / Audio pipe help
« on: December 13, 2008, 09:38:36 pm »
I have my Sony receiver (toggle on/off commands) hooked up to my media director via USB-UIRT and an audio pipe setup through web admin, when I come into the room and play a video the media director automatically sends the signal to my receiver and turns it on (which is sweet) the problem I have is when I decide I want to play a different video/audio file and it sends the signal again which then turns it off... is there any way to set this up to where it doesnt click on and off when just switching files? I know I am kind of screwed out of the gate since I have to use infrared and I dont have discrete on/off commands

Users / Pluto orbiter program for windows Ce
« on: December 13, 2008, 08:06:57 pm »
Anyone using this? I have a DT366 and until I get Thom's image installed I wanted to use the program that you download off of the pluto admin page, unfortunately when I install and try to run it I get and error message.
If I use the xscale version it says that it is not a valid CE application
If I use the x86 version it says "cannot find orbiter_cnet4_x86 or one of its components. Make sure the path and filename are correect and that the required libraries are available"

Any ideas?

Users / Insteon vs Zwave, which setup is easier?
« on: December 10, 2008, 06:19:08 pm »
I have been trying to decide between the two, with the obvious downside to zwave being COST. However in my research on the forum I see a whole lot of people having issues getting the insteon systems up and running successfully using ddamrons method. Alot of the threads dont seem to be solved either. So my main question, has anyone attempted both setup's and which one was easier/ more reliable?

Also I am still not sure exactly what hardware is needed for both systems (just for controlling lights at the current time)
Insteon- 2412 control unit (serial or usb)
             insteon light switches

Zwave- control unit???? do I just need the usb adapter
                    http://shop.micasaverde.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=110&products_id=151
separate remote?? do i have to have this
           zwave switches

I just want to control these lights through lmce, no other method is needed

what is a good web page for ordering zwave stuff in the US?

Users / How do I switch sources on my hauppage 150
« on: December 08, 2008, 07:53:28 pm »
I have this card hooked into the regular cable via the coax input, and I also have the component inputs connected to my cable box. How do I switch back and forth between these inputs, right now it only wants to tune into the coax input and I havent been able to see the component from my stb yet.
Thanks,

Users / IR codes sent to wrong device?
« on: December 08, 2008, 07:12:19 pm »
I just switched out my core and have been trying to get back to where I was. Here is a general Idea of the layout
Core- Device 19
MD- device 41
USBUIRT- device 104
Sony Reciever-device 105

Now I set up the device template just like last time, when I add the device it shows up on the admin site, in the right room under control of device 104. However, when I am in the A/V properties screen where you set up and test the IR codes for device 105 (reciever) I put a code (using the learn feature) and click "test" the pop up window says that the code was sent to device 104, and nothing happens on the reciever....

From device 105 screen in the admin site if I click on advanced, then hit "send command to this device" there are 5 options that I can send, vol up, vol down, mute, power on, power off. If I select one of these and hit send message, it sends to the reciever and works as it should.

The only thing I can guess is from the A/V screen it is sending the command to device 104 and it isnt working, from the advanced screen it is sending the command to device 105 and it is working. I dont know if this is the reason, but I cant think of anything else, this setup worked just fine with my other core so I am not sure what the problem is. I have deleted the all the devices and started over with the same result.

Should the command be sent to the IR device # or the Reciever device #, is there a way to change which device the code is sent to?

Also when I try to send the codes from the orbiter, I get the same no response from the reciever. The stereo does however respond to me selecting a video on the orbiter (since I set up an audio device pipe). when I click on a video, the stereo clicks on and when its been idle for a while it clicks off.

I have a sound card that I added with an optical out, during the AV wizard I selected SPDIF optical, on the stereo test I heard no sound, on the dolby test I heard the sound, on the DTS i didnt hear anything. When I go to play any audio/video files in LMCE I have no sound whatsoever... any ideas?

Users / Recommend me a Gig NIC that's compatible out of the box
« on: December 03, 2008, 04:30:16 pm »
I am swapping out my core for a smaller one that doesn't have an onboard 2nd NIC. If you have used a PCI gig NIC that worked right out of the box tell me which one it was.
Thanks,

Installation issues / I need some help with shell konsole
« on: December 03, 2008, 05:10:02 am »
I am trying to set up the diskless image for one of my MD's that will not netboot. I have been trying to follow this wiki
http://wiki.linuxmce.com/index.php/Unrecognized_NIC
The part I am having a problem with is after I add the line for my NIC module (e100), the wiki says to recreate the initial ramdisk and it says do Diskless_BuildDefaultImage.sh
When I try to run this in shell I get this message

krys@dcerouter:/usr/pluto/bin$ Diskless_BuildDefaultImage.sh
cp: cannot create regular file `/tftpboot/default/vmlinuz': Permission denied
/usr/pluto/bin/Diskless_BuildDefaultImage.sh: line 6: mkinitramfs: command not found
/usr/pluto/bin/Diskless_BuildDefaultImage.sh: line 15: /tftpboot/pxelinux.cfg/default: Permission denied

so I tried to use the sudo command and got this

krys@dcerouter:/usr/pluto/bin$ sudo Diskless_BuildDefaultImage.sh
[sudo] password for krys:
sudo: Diskless_BuildDefaultImage.sh: command not found

I dont have much experience with Linux obviously so if someone could point out my error here I would be grateful.

Users / If I use a NAS, does the data still pass through the core?
« on: December 02, 2008, 09:16:09 pm »
If I watch a movie that is stored on my NAS, or live tv from one MD to another, does the data all still go to the core first, then to the destination? Or does it go straight from the NAS to the destination, or from the MD with the tuner straight to the MD you are watching.

Users / USB-UIRT
« on: November 26, 2008, 02:31:50 am »
I got my USB-UIRT installed today and it seems to be working as intended with LMCE, my question is does the USB-UIRT device allow you to use the original remote still without going through LMCE.
EX: I have my receiver (Sony) behind a cabinet door and the USBUIRT out in the open with emitters run to the Sony, will the device take the signal from my Sony remote and just pass it along through the emitters? I dont plan on doing this forever, just till I get the rest of my components installed and up and running with LMCE
