Users / Follow-Me alternatives

Since Fiire won't sell the remotes any longer (they only sell them with fiire stations due to low quantities left), and bluetooth doesn't work reliably (per the FAQ), what other alternatives could we use for follow-me?  I understand you can force it to follow you manually with an orbiter, but I'm thinking of one-button press to get it to follow.  Ideas?

Users / Send to all MD's in house problem

I have 3 MD's total, one on the core and 2 diskless MD's.  I can watch and play any video file on any of the MD's, but if I choose the floorplan and then select 2 MD's and try to play to each of them simultaneously, only the one that I started playing the video on works!  I did the following:
- Start watching a avi on MD
- Using an orbiter, go to the floorplan
- Choose "first floor"
- select each MD and then click the video in the list

It keeps playing on the first MD, but it won't play on others.

Users / Copy a diskless MD image?

I'm going to be setting up several MD's that are identical, and I'd like to save some time by copying the diskless images if possible.  Each has the same exact hardware (Jetway JNC62K), is this possible?  It looks like it might take just as long to copy and then try to change the IP and system name than to just create it from scratch each time.

I contacted Gyration to ask what dongle they sell that can be used with the GYR3101US (Fiire Chief seems to be a modified version of this) and they said the GYAM1600RF.  I am ordering some now to see if they work, will post if they do!

I am trying to copy a bunch of videos onto my public share on my core, and for some reason it keeps stopping on certain files.  I can copy them to other places (other systems, other hard drives, etc), and they seem to be fine to watch, but I can't copy them to the share!  Online searching hasn't brought up anything that seems to work.  Any ideas?

Users / LMCE directory structure? Show folders not all files?

So I formatted /dev/sdb1 and lmce picked it up, I told it all files on the drive are public, so it created a Storage41$ share for windows and I started copying files over.

Now the newbie question: how do I make it show folders?  Right now it is showing every single file in the view.  I couldn't find it in the wiki, I'm sure it has to be there though.

I have a MD that seems to need the modified r8168 driver, but I am pretty sure my core is using the un-modified r8168 nic driver.  Is it possible to get net-boot to work like this?

Users / Random video freeze when watching videos?

Sound continues fine, but video freezes for about 5 seconds every 10min or so.  When I first hooked this up there was no problem.  Any ideas?  The system is plenty fast enough, it doesn't matter what bitrate the video is, even tiny videos have this problem.

Can someone that has used this please explain the steps to get it to work?  I have this and some HA03C and HA02C zwave modules.  It didn't come with a manual, and the modules say "see the manual for the controller" to setup.  Thanks very much!

Users / Move public onto new volume?

So I have a 3TB array, of which I am only using 100GB right now.  By default it appears there is a /home/public, of which I can see it shared via Windows and such.  I want this public share to be moved onto /dev/sdb (the rest of the array).  I haven't partitioned it or anything yet, is it possible to move the public user and share onto this drive?  Do I have to create a link to it in /home/public after I create a partition?

Users / chose 1080, appears to be scaled?

I bought a Panasonic 42" 1080p display, and tried to set it to use 1080, which it does in the setup wizard (I also adjusted the borders and such).  However when it goes to load, the text on the LinuxMCE admin thing is unreadable, I mean it appears as if it is scaled way down.  Any ideas?

I can use a lower resolution and read the text, I was using 1024x768 and it appeared fine (just stretched of course).

Users / Trouble installing with drives over 2TB?

After numerous problems with software RAID5 and failing, I gave up and bought a 3Ware 9650SE (4-port version).  I chose this because I have the 8-port version in another system with Ubuntu 6.10 and it worked perfectly.

I had trouble getting LinuxMCE to install onto 3x 1.5TB drives in a raid5 setup before, such that I had to use the cd's and a manual install.  Now it appears that the LinuxMCE dvd can't install onto a drive this large (3TB) and it fails creating the partitions.  I'll install kubuntu 7.10 again if necessary, but I was hoping there might be a boot flag or something I could pass to it.  Any ideas?

I'm trying to get this mobo to work as a diskless media director, and I followed the Unrecognized NIC page (and the Realtek 8168 page) and it now starts to boot, then goes to:

Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init!
Then it blinks the caps lock and scroll lock.  Before I did the 8168/8169 patch it didn't panic at least!

I wanted to add that I have to use the Realtek RTL 8111B/8111C bootrom, because the other NIC has a NVIDIA Boot Agent that doesn't seem to work.  I mean it just times out at the DHCP boot screen.

Users / ASUS M2N SLI Deluxe - better, but now onboard NIC's are dead?

I swapped the MSI K9N2G Neo (nothing worked right with that thing) with a ASUS M2N SLI Deluxe, and everything worked the first try (except the nvidia driver, but I just compiled that).  I had to use an older beta driver to get it to work with an XFX Geforce 8500gt, but it is much faster than the old mobo with the onboard 8200.  Now to install LMCE tonight and set that acpi boot option!

UPDATE - now both onboard NIC's don't work at all!  The first one doesn't even light up for link, and the 2nd one appears to work, but it can't see anything.  Some help is needed here, I think the problem is that eth0 it thinks is disabled, yet it is showing eth1 with the IP below in the tools, so it is trying to send out the wrong interface.

Also as an aside, the acpi boot option disables USB mice on this board, so I didn't end up using it.  I just turned off power management in the BIOS.

Installation issues / MSI K9N2G Neo NIC support?

I'm using an old 3com 3C905B for now, but I need dual NICs for the core.  This board seems to have a Realtek 8211BL NIC onboard.  I can't find a driver for it, does anyone know if its supported?  I'm using a blank Kubuntu 7.10 install right now, LMCE is next.
