Installation issues / Re: Network Share not showing up
« on: November 19, 2011, 10:44:43 pm »
I don't know if I HAD to enter the mac and IP for the config, but there was another post that said they did that and it worked for them, so I did the same and it then mounted the drive, but didn't link to it anywhere.

As of now, I'm leaning towards another media system and hacking in zwave support for it, since the system is pretty useless to me right now (can't view media, its on the NAS and now it crashes when I try to get a list of videos).

it seems you have answered your own question re "why". all this manual fiddling you dont have to do when you use the system properly. ie it becomes the gateway for your entire network.
I posted my answer in case someone else finds this post in the future and wonders how I got it working.  I did have to add both the IP and the MAC address to get the external share to work, then I added a link to it on the core's HDD.  It didn't seem to show the files on it otherwise.

Ok I'll be honest here, the NAS is not behind LMCE simply because IMHO it isn't stable.  I end up rebooting into Windows on the core to get a video to play or something and I need to get to the NAS when LMCE is off.  I used to have it 80% working (zwave, remote, md's) and now it is not.  I added a link to the NAS and now the MD's crash when I try to browse the videos (it did work for a couple videos before it was done running UpdateMedia).  ZWave turns on/off all lights in the house when I play a video OR turns on/off the wrong ones, the Fiire and Gyration remotes I have no longer seem to work, and there are other misc problems that I haven't gotten to yet (sound works on one MD, but doesn't on another that is identical for example).  I loved it when I had 710 and it worked, I may go back to that because it least it is the "devil I know".

I am having this same exact problem, and while F6 and F7 do work, my Fiire remote does not!  It worked in 710, not sure why this doesn't work in 810.  I also had to manually install libdvdcss2 and codecs.  I don't normally have a keyboard on each media director, it is going to be a show stopper if I need one in order to stop DVD's!  Any idea why the buttons don't seem to work when a DVD is played (the MEDIA/MENU/VOL-LIGHT button on the Fiire remote)?

Wait, it is already showing up!  It shows it mounted it as /mnt/device/74 and if I browse there I see everything!  I don't see it anywhere on the MD's though, but it does show up on the core in the admin page.

I created a shortcut to it and now it shows up on the MD. In the core's public dir: /mnt/device/100/home/public/data/videos # sudo l -s /mnt/device/74/(path to directory)/ NAS

So now I ran updatemedia and it shows up.  It even pulled the old thumbnails!

What?  Why not?  How is an external NAS different than an internal one?  I can mount it from other linux boxes on my home network, what command should I use to mount it from LMCE?  mount -t ntfs (etc)?

I know its been awhile, but for anybody else who is thinking of using this board: it works fine out of the box with 0810.  The nic driver issue seems to be resolved.  See my user:nosebreaker page on the wiki for more info.

It doesn't ask because the share is on the outside, not on the 192.168.80.x network.

I followed this add external share guide:

Installation issues / Network Share not showing up
« on: October 22, 2011, 05:09:29 am »
I mounted a network share as shown in the wiki, but it doesn't seem to be showing any of the media on my MD's or on the core.  One thing I did not do, is have any local storage.  So it asks for /dev/sda5 and I say no, since I only have video/audio/etc on the network share.  Do I need this for it to show up?

Yes that fixed it, even though I did not do a DVD installation it was still necessary to run the Diskless_CreateTBZ.sh script.

I had a 0710 install working, but then the HDD died, and I am not doing a 0810 install using the same hardware.  I have gotten to the point where I turn on a MD and it should PXE boot as before and be detected by the core, but it is not, it fails to find pxelinux.cfg/<mac address> or pxelinux.cfg/default

I checked to see that there is nothing at all in my /tftproot/pxelinux.cfg/ folder, and I also found a post where they had the same problem (http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php/topic,2717.0.html).  This machine is getting .80.131 as an IP, which doesn't show in my Unknown Devices screen on the admin.

I tried to manually add a MD, so when I go to the device screen to add it, and I select Add Device on the Media Directors page, it automatically selects "Media Director < Computers" as the device filter (type 8), but there is nothing in the device template to choose from!  It says if I know the template id I can just type it, so I tried type 8 but that doesn't work.  Any suggestions on how to add the media directors?

Oh, I did look at this:
http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/MDs_Do_Not_Network_%28PXE%29_Boot
That doesn't seem to apply, this is a new install on a system that used to work fine.

Also, I noticed in the DVD Installation section of the install guide it says to run a diskless setup command.  I did not do a DVD install but I am now running the command anyway to see if this fixes the issue.

Ok, I hate to be a newbie, but where can I download it?  I only see 810!

Users / 710 system HDD failure, should I reinstall as 810?
« on: June 13, 2011, 04:10:58 am »
I had a HDD failure in my 710 LMCE system (it was RAID5, and then the 2nd drive had data failure before replacement arrived), and now I am about to reinstall LMCE from scratch.  You can read about my system in the wiki, but the old system had a few issues.  Install was a pain, but I worked through most of the issues.  The only major issue I had left was that after being on 24/7 for a week or two, the system would skip while playing videos (even low-res ones that it shouldn't have an issue with).  I am trying to decide if I should use the latest 810 snapshot, and go for that instead.  In your opinion, if you were me, would you go with the devil you know (710) or the devil you don't (810)?

I'll just do the same thing I did with my 386 when I wanted to play 3D games, run at 320x200 and shrink the screen down to 3" x 2" :)

Yeah I didn't think about the video on it, probably not useful for much other than an orbiter.  They do have a touch screen LCD that might be good for an orbiter, if not for the $400 price tag!

I had this same error, but only with subtitles.  It used to work fine with AVI files with subtitles, and now it doesn't work at all (and I get that error msg), so I delete the subtitles file to watch the movie.

My $0.02, I've gone through 3 of these in 2 different systems over the past 6mo, they burned out the USB port they were plugged into!
