Users / Re: Universal V4L Package available - installs on 0710 & 0810
« on: July 25, 2009, 10:13:32 pm »
Hello -
Have any issues been reported with the latest v4l driver used in conjunction with the latest alsa driver? I received some cx88-alsa errors for 'Unknown symbol in modules' in the dmesg log after upgrading to both the latest alsa 1.20 and the latest v4l build on 810 (reproducable when attempting to load manually via modprobe). I'm running the pchdtv 5500 (more info on exactly how i'm installing is on my user wiki here: http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/User:Murdock#My_810_Install_Instructions ).

Both with and without upgrading to the latest alsa driver the audio is not coming in my myth config (this is something i'm going to be troubleshooting today) only if I don't upgrade the alsa driver to 1.20, I don't get any errors on boot.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated!

Thank you,

Ryan

Would the M3N78-EM motherboard be a recommendation for diskless MDs as well, or is it too much for an MD?

Much better, Thanks. I'm going to be rebuilding my 810 dev environment soon and will use this.

Here's the developer's guide (pretty good, answered alot of my questions on the architecture):

Here's the programmers guide category on the wiki:

This should help get you rolling.

Since you're using 810, go into your media director's command line and type:
sudo apt-get libdvdcss2

That should install the necessary software to view a dvd.

Something to think about:  If you're doing a new build and want to build it up for the future, you may want to consider cat6 as your medium, though i understand using 5e if you've already made the purchase.

Users / Re: USB UIRT learn - transmit problem
« on: July 21, 2009, 05:55:25 pm »
Hello,

I'm having a similar issue, the learning works correctly (at least it appears to work correctly), though when I test out the transmit it does not. I have utilized the wiki instructions (thanks Seth!) and actually updated the wiki with some updated info on the git command. After playing with and attaching a an extension on the back I still have no luck with the transmission. The plugged-in extension does not blink when i send a test through, though the UIRT dongle itself does. Would anyone have any ideas on further troubleshooting this?

Here are the steps i've taken up to this point:
1. Rebuilt diskless MD image with base/default 710
2. Attached extension to the back
3. Followed Seth's article and also tried to use the binary he created - upon doing this the kernel recognized the dongle and pulled it into mce, mce autoconfigured it the way i would expect and can learn just fine via the web admin tool.

P.S. The driver looks very different in 810, has anyone tested this in 810 successfully?

Thank you!

Ryan

While I can't specifically comment on troubleshooting steps to figure out what's wrong, I can say that I've installed various versions of the alpha about 8 times and on average with my 1mbps internet connection it took about 3 hours on average start to finish.

I need to play around with that more in 710, I'm running hdmi for video from my diskless MD to my reciever and a spdif coax connection for audio. Ideally I'd love to remove the coax and run straight hdmi (if only to get rid of one more cable :) ). Is there a wiki on how to set this up for nvidia based GPUs? If not after I get it working I'll post something on the wiki about it.

While I understand you've gotten past your issue, here's a great link that I used to setup my hdhomerun to use with mce/myth:
