Scott -

Here's what I'm running right now (not much, but building):
http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/User:Murdock#Z-Wave_Setup

It's a good starting point for the controller plus a dimmer, my zwave setup was fully plug and play which is really nice.

  All zwave items are here:

Installation issues / PCHDTV HD5500 - Analog sound quality issues

Sound quality issues on myth front end??

If you have analog sound related issues, ensure that 48000 is set BOTH at the mythtv-setup-->capture cards--->v4l AND on the myth front end (which seems to default to 32000) to get there, it's in Recording Profiles -> Software Encoders -> LiveTV, then just set up the encoding options, audio is on the second page.

The implementation at home is pretty standard, i have a few IR sensors which I believe are wired and a few wireless battery operated glass breakage sensors. I'm not certain if they are z-wave or RF, I need to do some further research to find out for certain.

I'd love to help out in testing this, I believe i'm running the vista20p at home (i'll double check this evening).

Maverick - would you mind updating the wiki with the information you used to help the next person?

Update:

Lesson learned - Don't try to update alsa/nvidia/v4l if everything works in standard 810.

Key files for troubleshooting:
/dev/dsp* <-- These are device files for analog audio
/dev/dvb/* <-- digital tuner adapter info
  /dev/vbi* <--analog tuner files

cat /proc/asound/cards  <-- ensure more than just your audio output entry is listed, you need to have an audio entry for your tuner. example:
 0 [NVidia         ]: HDA-Intel - HDA NVidia
HDA NVidia at 0xf9f78000 irq 22
 1 [CX8801         ]: CX88x - Conexant CX8801
                      Conexant CX8801 at 0xfc000000

True, though that's a phone. I'll take a look around and see what devices are out there.

Perhaps, but maybe even something smaller, low powered, something you could use as you walk in the door to control lighting or just disable the security system.

Users / Supported wall panel orbiters?

Hello -

For security and/or lighting, I was wondering if there are any LMCE supported wall panel orbiters?

Thank you,

Installation issues / Re: Required network adapter
« on: July 27, 2009, 10:21:52 pm »
FYI - I used a dlink usb wireless adapter (it used the p54 linux module) and only intermittently worked on any kernel below 2.6.28 which made mce a little flukey (flukey meaning MCE would hang when the wireless net connection would drop, I suspect the kernel module would affect other things that MCE depended on and froze the app). I also had to modify the udev rules to rename wlan0 to ethx so mce would run properly. I just ran wire so i could be in a more mce supportable config which has made things much better for me personally.

My 2 cents...

Upon further investigation, I've determined this has nothing to do with the latest V4L module and everything to do with the ALSA module. I've opened thread http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=8591.0 to continue down the troubleshooting path.

I've noticed that when upgrading to either 1.0.19 or 1.0.20 ALSA driver I receive many 'unknown symbol' errors when upgrading either manually or via the upgrade script (details here: http://wiki.linuxmce.com/index.php/User:Murdock#My_810_Install_Instructions ).

After making multiple changes to different files and the repo i'm now able to see the /dev/dsp1 file and pull analog audio. The issue now is i'm not exactly certain which changes gave me the ability to receive audio.

When able to receive audio through the analog cable, I was on:
.20 of all alsa modules EXCEPT the driver
.17 of the alsa driver

Has anyone been successful in getting rid of the cx88_alsa 'unknown symbol' errors on .19 or .20?

I'll be continuing to work on this and derive exactly what is needed in order to get the /dev/dsp* and the cx88 card to be recognized in /proc/asounds/cards - though any thoughts/assistance would be appreciated.
