THanks guys for all the advice. I have not had another bash at getting LMCE working in my house for a while as have been really busy at work but I will check in again when I get going. Possibly when 8.10 becomes more mainstream or, heaven forbid, 10.10

Hi,
The company I am working for are going to be getting rid of a few HP T5545 thin clients, was wondering if anyone has had any luck getting these to work? they don't have HDMI but do have DVI so should connect to quite a few monitors/TV's

Hi Andrew, I tried again but unfortunately the same error. At first, I installed the firmware package that you attached (thru the GUI). That installed OK. Then I installed the v4l2-source package, at this point it said the following: error: conflicts with the installed package v4l2-modules-2.6.22-14-generic so I uninstalled the package: sudo apt-get remove v4l2-modules-2.6.22-14-generic this was a success and I then ran the install again, it took about 5-7 minutes and eventually appeared to install correctly, here is the output of the install: (Reading database ... 111228 files and directories currently installed.) Hi Andrew,
Sorry to keep bothering you mate but I was wondering if you managed to reproduce the issue at home? Also the guys at linuxmce seem to be working quite hard on 8.10, I was wondering how long they estimate until its usable?

Ok, I download the tarball from your link, open it with ark and extract the V4L2xxxxxxx.deb file into the default location (/home/linuxmce). Also ensure that 'open location' is ticked. Once it is extracted, I click on it, this launches the Package installer. I select reinstall package, enter the linuxmce password and it loads successfully. I then reboot and then sudo /etc/init.d/vdr stop and then run the scan command as in your post. Is there something else that I am missing?

Howdy Andrew,
Well oddly enough I plugged the K-World into my vista machine and it scanned and picked up all of the channels so at least I know that its working. Do you have any other suggestions. Maybe I should try and build from the CD's instead of the DVD's? Really stuck mate and really keen to get this box running...

Hey mate, I have reinstalled the package, same problem.
I have attached my syslog file again...do you reckon the tuner could be faulty? Maybe I should plug it into my windows box just to double-check....anyway the wife is calling so I look forward to your response and will check back tomorrow!
