you are wanting to set separate login credentials from the ones already required to log in to web admin?

who knows, it was probably someone there that was interested in it at some point. you could probably try to contact them and try to find out more info about it, as it was not likely anything officially affiliated with LinuxMCE.

Installation issues / Re: LG LCD Template

when i reworked the template, i changed all the delays to 0 since they didnt seem to be needed. you could try increasing the power on delay.

any a/v device that can be controlled by a LinuxMCE supported control interface (infrared blaster, rs232 serial, ethernet, etc) will always be able to be integrated into the system. I believe there is already a device template for at least one version of the roku box, but device templates for these kind of devices are very easy to make.

Users / Re: folderlock working?
« on: September 04, 2011, 06:50:44 pm »
folderlocks simply prevent UpdateMedia from crawling into that folder. if it has already done so in the past, then whatever media it found will still be available even after application of a folderlock.

ZWave is indeed one of the best choices currently based on features and price.

We are to the point now where UI designers can get their feet wet too.
If you are not familiar with QML, anyone with webapp experience (CSS, JavaScript) should be able to pick up QML very quickly; I have this background and it has taken me about a week to get up to speed with it.
If you are interested in this but don't know how to get started, stop by on IRC to chat with myself or someone else about the environment requirements.

Users / Re: OSD for my TV not centered
« on: August 07, 2011, 06:06:00 am »
this is due to overscan. the only real fix is if your tv has an option to adjust the screen to fit the image (disable overscan). some TVs have this in the aspect ratio manual as "actual pixels," "just scan", etc.

the usb version just has an onboard usb-rs232 chip, so will show up as a serial port and the serial device should work.

Users / Re: Samba share and "use automatically"
« on: July 26, 2011, 04:16:33 pm »
the share should NOT be used unless that option is checked. i believe that was a bug that was fixed some time ago where it would be used regardless.

some specific types of copy protection or DRM will cause those kind of errors too. no amount of changing drives will fix that.

Installation issues / Re: Ultimate Goal of LinuxMCE

same as it has always been: to control and integrate every piece of technology in the home.
and we get there in whatever way is possible given the skills that the people working on it currently have. if you feel that there is a better way to do something, we would love to have that help, since the few of us that do actually work on this thing are usually in way over our heads.

there is no way to copy an existing template unfortunately, other than manually. and i dont think its possible to have a single template describe two connection methods.
while i have not done so myself, there should be a way to send hex values in ruby.

ssh on something other than the default port (22) with strong passwords is enough.
also, there is no reason to use an additional firewall, the one in linuxmce is plenty sufficient.
