I just used it to import some stuff into my new setup that I had before reinstalling the core and ran into some problems. Yeah the idea is to have it recreate the old device as a new one, but I see now that its going to need a bit more logic so that it knows to duplicate related data as well (if they havent changed then it doesnt export them, hence they dont get created in the import). Also screwed up the query generation, the field names shouldnt be quoted. Ill get an updated version out tomorrow probably.

so look for a less expenive MoBo and add a GPU. The HDD was the smallest the place i was looking at had. i could look and see if i have some small ones around. or just Nix the HDD...is there a downside to that???
There is no reason to put a hard drive in a media director at all, other than as additional storage space for media.

I was asked to hack away at this script and this is what I came up with.
It now has a web user interface and prompts to save/load template files to the user's local drive. Encapsulation of the data is now done using php's serialize function which should prevent it from attempting to resolve any php tokens in the data.
I do not have a system to test out the import on so the best I have done for testing on that part is look over the generated sql queries. I would appreciate it if those with test systems could install it and test out a few different templates, particularly the ones giving problems above.
The file is in the trac ticket at http://svn.linuxmce.org/trac.cgi/ticket/208

Yep, I tried to do the same thing (fix diskless MD creation on an alhpa2 install) and finally just gave up and reinstalled the newest alpha. much easier.

You should really consider an HDHomeRun, its two tuners, attaches to the network, and is fully plug and play.

you can get some quite small form factor cases for MicroATX boards too. they end up being a little larger than itx, but is something you should consider unless that form factor is an absolute requirement.

I dont think anyone is gonna complain about stuff being added to the wiki as long as it is relevant and at least close to correct ;)
LMCE uses id3 tags extensively for metadata for all types of media. if the filetype doesnt support the addition of an id3 tag then a <filename>.id3 file can be used instead. There are various ways of creating/editing these files, I myself have used the MP3::Tag perl module.

Installation issues / Re: Mythtv path problem

0710 does not support changing of the mythtv recording path. you may want to look into running the 0810 alpha if this is important to you.

are you waiting at least 5 seconds between pressing the numbers on the keyboard? have you told it to run the avwizard?

when you switch outputs on the video card you have to run the avwizard again to choose the new output.

Users / Re: Question about Mythtv
« on: May 14, 2009, 01:07:25 am »
well there really being no standard for tv streaming on the net (other than the seldom used IPTV), its pretty hard to build in support for this stuff. you could probably add functionality with enough coding, but it would end up being specific to only that particular stream.

8VSB is only used for broadcast so you dont need to scan for it on cable. mythtv should resolve channel names automatically if using schedulesdirect. note that channel number and channel name can be different, ie in my area fox is on broadcast channel 18 but comes up as 13 in the guide. Once the hdhomerun was detected and configured with schedulesdirect guide data, i just had to go into mythsetup and do a channel scan on each tuner. then once mythfilldatabase had a chance to run for a bit i could watch tv.

I believe launch manager is now a linux service that has no gui so you wont see it on the kde desktop.
