I know. but there is a possibility with these hide behind devices also know as "puck" here in Sweden.

Swedish readers please read..
However I called schneider and was told this:

* The switching "puck" is cannot be locally controlled. so you're right harri. =)
* However, The Dimmer "puck" can be controlled locally when hiding it behind a trigger switch (you install a spring which makes it have only one position)

* Difference between Merten and the eljo trend series is that merten has more choices between what type of switch(now I mean the thing you press on not the actual switch not sure of the word..)

* When you buy a Eljo Trend dimmer you pay less and you dont have to buy two things.
Hari, let me know if you're intrested in prices. I really don't want to post it here.. But it's darn worth it..

I will now order a bunch of approx. 15pucks to start with and then carry on as I learn more and maybe get the finances right..This is going to be fun  Smiley I expect abit of struggle but lets see..

Hi again.. Not sure I follow. Are you giving me a hint or just joking?  Undecided

Neither, he is asking you a question, and probably laughing at one of his own suggestions for a possible answer.
Ah, Ok was unsure due to the lol thingy =). Well I will have a look at the panasonic device template, Thanks!
Offcourse I will post it in the wiki if I ever succeeds. Would be nice to finally contribute with something.
Made a Telnet to the box via reflection and the port defined in the receiver to be used for ISCP ..

The command looks like this when the reciever sends it to me(volume change)
ISCP    !1MVL0A?
I tried sending this( and other combinations) but never get a response(receiver doesn't react on it either)
!1PWR01 Then I make a [CR] by hitting the enter key after writing the command.
!1PWRQSTN
"1PWRQSTN"
!1LMD83

Spec:s says that the command should be like :
!1PWR01[CR]

Guess I have to dig abit deeper into this. Wonder if the telnet can have anything to do with this?
This is really not my area of expertise but I will do a wireshark and see how it looks.
Not sure how to send a command otherwise than making a telnet to it. Will definetly have a look at the pana template..

Thank you for that perfect explanation. I just found one difference(maybe) between the Eljo Trend zwave and the Merten.
According to the doc I have for eljo connect they have
Eljo Trend
Eljo Trend Solid
Eljo M and
System Design

Also when reading the doc for Eljo it seems like the Eljo Trend switch or dimmer does not need any insert..only the M and system design needs one. Huh I think this Must be a typo and will contact their representative tomorrow.

However since I am building on an excisting New home(with alot of eljo trend switches) I wonder about this MER_507501 , if I locally switch the light on, will the Core know?

65  LinuxMCE / Users / control onkyo receiver via ethernet on: January 15, 2009, 07:16:36 pm
Been looking at this and read the wiki about how to control via serial etc but I don't get how I can control the Onkyo using the ethernet.

I have been playing abit with the device template already in the LMCE(need to make a copy of it before continuing) but it seems like even I set the onkyo to be IP based the Core/hybrid still want's me to use serialport when sending commands.
Where do I define where the commands should be sent out and to what ip?

Then the more I think about I wonder how to send serial commands via ethernet(ip)  Huh

Do I need to setup a new device template or how should I do this? anyone else been tried doing control via ethernet?

Off course I can go and buy a usb->rs232 dongle but since the onkyo can be controlled via ethernet I was thinking it should not be needed.

yes that is true..
well need some more sleep and less nightworks.. What I meant was more like:
If I buy the merten/eljo Connect with no inserts only a receiver in the switch/dimmer, will that be able to communicate and tell or let the Core know that the light is turned on Locally.
Or do I need the M-series which consists of (as I've understood it) a receiver pad and transmitter insert(possibly the other way around) for that to happen.

Irritating that the connect product series info folder is very unclear of what you really need. Sorry hari for these trivial questions.

ok, just received some prices and I am confused.
there are three systems in both eljo and merten. connect, system M and system design.

It Looks like when buying the Basic connect you don't need an insert as you need for the System M. So what is is that you guys use?

=) the shop is actually a friend of mine having good % off the sales-prices, However we have not checked how much though. Just counting on that it will be cheaper than Merten. Let's see. waiting for prices still  Undecided

well that is excellent news!

Good to hear that someone is using this alot. I will install 10 devices to start with just to get going and then add more later.
Thanks!

Just have to ask. I can get good prices from Eljo which has the same series as Merten and both are manufactured by schneider. Do you see any issues with using Eljo Connect series as switches instead of Merten?

The merten prices where just ridiculus.. Really expensive.

Also I heard that Zwave uses Mesh topology for routing and there may(person I was talking to said WILL) be problems with slow response times and even possibly that no traffic will be routed since the signalling will considered as background noise. He was recommending Zigbee instead. Have you seen anything indicating that the above may happen with Zwave components?  Guess you only use a few switches and not 10 or more that you control(?)

Btw, Great work with the Symbian. Best christmas gift ever!

Wow! thanx for the ultrafast response hari.
Will do some research & budgetcheck but I feel Much more confident of what to buy now.
Will def. go for the remote. Seems like it should be a breeze to add all this things.

Also need to do some research about the whole Zwave functionality I think, reg. interference, channels available and such.
Guess Zwave is going to be a big seller in the next few years (off course thats also was the salespitch for plcbus).

(I was seconds away from ordering alot of plcbus devices and just changed my mind)  Grin
72  LinuxMCE / Users / Zwave necessary components for easy integ on: December 09, 2008, 09:28:27 pm
as the topic describes I have now moved from plcbus more or less completely due to the uncertanity to speak between phases. And the selling arguments in Every plcbus vs. thread since hari started to work at the driver

I am in the mode of ordering the needed components this week. For starters I am planning just to control lights, inside and outside. Also turning on the engine heater is a must this time of year.

From what I understand you off course need the seluxit controller to connect to the core.
 But then it's abit unclear.
* Do I need the remotecontrol still as well to add the dimmers/switches etc to LMCE?
* Can I buy whatever Merten switch/dimmer I want and it can be controlled hari-magically Wink without support/compability issues?

In case not, Anyone has a list over "supported" switches and dimmers?
I will then add it to the wiki since I can only find controllers there.

Btw I live in EU..

73  LinuxMCE / Installation issues / Re: Hardware Migration Help on: December 09, 2008, 09:25:06 am
Hi!

How did this proceed?
I am in the mode of moving all my media to a Nas and would like the attributes settings to be followed. Did a try with some files but ended up with the attributes and dvdcss "links" got lost and from the orbiter there where loose links to the old location. (eventhough I made media sync and full regen of the orbiters).
Also it would be good to know if the backup from web admin can be restored on any Linuxmce machine(given that hw has been setup the same) or is it depending on being the same exact hw.?
In that case, how do you move your media from the old hw to the new if you have everything stored in the Core on the same disk(not partition) as the boot?

I have read until my eyes bleed and I have a few Q's regarding this. Silly questions maybe..

What is Not working today with Plcbus hw? what can I expect?
Does the 2-way communication work?
I will have to talk between the phases and could not find anywhere how that is being done, just that there needed to be an modification to the command being sent(?)

I plan to buy alot of insert modules(alot of money) and start to wonder, are there any plcbus hw that may not work well?  My guess is that as long as it is Plcbus then it should be fine, right?

I am seriously thinking of Maybe.. Zwave afterall depending on the status of plcbus (damnit hari.. I thought had it all figured out..)  Wink

Me in sthlm
Plan to fully control lights and different appliances in our house. Also use a media device in all rooms with a tv. This is just the start. Then security shall be integrated and control/monitor over 3G  Grin I just love the potential this has, but to afraid of going down a dark alley when buying hw so I am pretty careful and search ALOT..(maybe to much)
