Users / zwave tricklestar include problem
« on: July 07, 2009, 09:19:11 pm »
Hi again been busy with the family and new garden lately.

Have done a duct tape solution including zwave relays (on off devices) to control the watering valves.

Now I wanted to add these devices to the zwave network and doing as should with the tricklestar in config mode press and hold, green light, release and press again, blinking.. Now to the device (holding the tstar next to it) doing the include(3 quick presses) also tried doing the 4 press procedure which does a reset.

Nothing.. the tricklestar doesn't even try to zoom in on the device.. usually this can be seen by faster blinking and then lock on.. =)

I have reloaded the router(just in case) and have tried this a few times with both devices and looking at the log(level 36,40,41) but I start to wonder if the remote is not even in the network?
 how can I check that?

Does the tricklestar needs to be connected 24/7 to the usb?
I have not had it connected in a while before now since I only use it for inclusion. Connected it a day before though to charge it...

I have seen this before and then I solved it by adding all devices once again but surely there must be a simpler way since there starts to be a few devices now in our home..

Thankful for all inputs

Tkmedia et all. Thanks! I will do so since I need a bigger second disk in the core before I have the NAS up and running safely (got surprised of the samsung hdd temp and need to build a proper chassie)

on the 2T issue I think less is more.. more disks and you don't loose that much when it breaks ;)
also copying doesn't take so long with smaller disks.

Eljo has these devices that you put behind the existing switches. However I have found out that they are really big and it gets tight.
In a normal "hole" I don't recommend actually to put these behind since it also gets quite warm. So I am abit undecided whether these are good or not if you still want local control without battery(my concern as well). Seem like they count on that you buy the battery switch together with these..and then I would go for Merten..

Btw.. I have asked my friend about the prices, not a very big difference compared to zwave4u but if possible to collect locally you probarbly save the freight at least. Will get back to you on that..

thanks, glad thats sorted. Then I am pretty sure that is why it all of the sudden becomes angry at me :-[
I got the feeling however that the nodes where not updated to the seluxit but I am most probarbly wrong.

Thanks again!

simple task I thought. Just buy one and plug it into one of the free SATA ports.
But the Core doesn't recognise it  :-\ it's a brand new unformatted(!) 720Gb Samsung. I guess I have to format it, but then I need to mount it right?

In Kubuntu I did the same(have a computer that will be using FreeNas) but there I had to manually format and mount it. However doing this in LinuxMCE I have understood is Not the way to go.

I have done similar with an IDE disk and that one was found instantly, however that had been used before but with windoze format.

So, what is the Right(read, how would you do?) procedure to do it, don't want to mess this up.

I have had the same thought. However I have also noticed how good it is to have that extra "safety" before the song/movie starts.
I have had a few occasions where I have simply pressed the wrong song or similar due to fat fingers or delay of the orbiter and that way been able to revert.
Not arguing against it, just trying to point out that "a coin has many sides"

Maybe having the possibility to choose if it(Lmce) should ask or not. But since I don't know how to do it I cannot help unfortunately.

Users / Zwave Tricklestar procedure check
« on: February 09, 2009, 07:50:28 pm »
Hey! now it works better. Reset of the Seluxit and the Tricklestar did the trick.
Added the dimmers and other plug-in switches that I have.
Made a quick reload of the Core. Made function check and all works well. and abit faster response can be noticed indeed.(or it may be psychological since I know it should be)

Then I installed new switches and wanted to add those as well but now the Tricklestar behaves like that again.. (flashing red)

This never happened with the other driver so I wonder if it could be the driver or (more) possible me doing it wrong?

When adding a new switch/dimmer I simply do:
Send download config to the Seluxit
Press and hold the upper button until green, then quick press on the same button, tricklestar blinks green and I press the include combination on the switch/dimmer, tricklestar then starts to blink red.
Is this the right way(at least thats how it's done in the wiki)

Off course a reset of the tricklestar will help but then also all the config will be lost(?) and I need to go around and add all the switches again.

Not sure if I should post this in the drivers thread but instead of destroying that thread I choose to start another. It's probarbly just me doing wrong anyway?

Ordered two first.
Then after waiting a few weeks I got worried and contacted Zug. I must tell that I thought I would never see my money again Or any of the usb-uirt I bought.
However.. Zug sent me two again after a few days and now they have arrived.

I just want to Send you my Thanks(again) and also show Here that this man is for real!
Thanks once again for an excellent service!
 :)

Best Regards

ok, need to specify more I think. The install is what I call "clean install" meaning that the disk is wiped during install(also used another hdd than the 64bit installed one since I have all media still on that one)
The driver is however the latest downloaded(wget) from your site (sorry for the Su-31 btw it's a nice plane)

Funny thing is that now when I rolled the driver back again just to get it working for the week.  I can still not add any devices using the tricklestar. It turns red really fast, as it was reading the info sent and denied it. But the Seluxit is responding again :)

Hi!

reinstalled and I am now running 32bit. Lmce found my previously added zwave devices and I added them back. Then after functioncheck I changed to the updated driver.
For some reason the Seluxit wont respond. Made a restart of the system(after a few quick reloads) but it did not help.
Rolled back the driver and after restart everything was fine again =/ hmm.
Got a thought that maybe I need to add the devices with the new driver. So all devices has been excluded but I just cannot get them back by including.
Nor do the Seluxit give a response "OK" on the download config.
Maybe like some other guy here that had problem and it was related to a group id. However I cannot figure out the node id and the rest so..
Here's a print from when I sent "download config" from LMCE Admin and never got a respons back and onwards since it seem to have made a restart.

Hope you or someone that hopefully understand the output can help me get it working.

Ok, I will let the system run for a few days and evaluate. Could also just being me doing something wrongly maybe..
Sorry for the OT. was not sure how to treat it since it was related to the driver, will start another thread about that.  :)

edit. will not start another thread since I did more thourough searches on the matter and are now convinced to install the 32bit instead.

Hi, do you have a 64bit version of the new ZWave binary as well..?.
no.

On a general note: is using 64bit LMCE going to cause me more pain than gain..?..
if you ask me, yes.

br, Hari

Can you please explain why you think 64 bit is not as good as 32.
I will most probarbly do a reinstall shortly(system cannot find device-logfiles etc from webadmin so I have destroyed something) and are using "64 bit hw" and 64 lmce now so any input is interesting to know.

Also I wonder if I want to convert the 32bit driver you have done to suit 64 bit hardware. What process should I google? (compile?)

Still Very thankful(glad) for the help I got with the Connect hw selection.(it works!) but config is sometimes lost..
Best Regards
johan
