346  LinuxMCE / Developers / Java Mo and symbian code location. on: June 30, 2009, 01:48:22 pm
Could someone give me a link to the JavaMO code and the symbian orbiter code. Also is there a way to test and orbiter without having a core present. IE an emulator of some sort. I'd like to try and add touch screen functionality to one of these so that the newer nokia touchscreen phones can be used as remotes.

Thanks,
Kevin

Just to let anyone who might run into this problem know how I finally fixed this.

It was a problem with the system wanting to communicate with the on board graphics card that would hose the startup. I fixed it with these instructions.

1. Remove the add-on graphics card and boot into your ubuntu install as normal.

2. Open terminal and enter the following without quotes:

"sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist"

3. Add the following two entries without quotes to the end of the file:

"blacklist agpgart"
"blacklist intel_agp"

4. Shutdown the pc and reinstall the add-on graphics card.

5. Connect monitor to add-on card and boot pc.

Hope this might help someone with a similar problem.

I control my x10 devices with a number of different remotes including lmce. One thing to note if you are wanting to control both phases in your house ( In the US the house is usually fed by 220 and split into 2 separate 110 lines) you will need to get a line jumper or what ever the hell they call them. It is a device that is about 40 bucks and all it does is allow the x10 signal to jump from one phase of the 220 to the other.

Pressing and holding a number key on the main screen turns on follow me for the orbiter. but this Only happens with the Symbian variation of the UI.

-Thom

Sounds like another reason to try and recompile Hari's code for v5,

Thanks Thom

Okay I've got the size just about worked out, need to work on my scale factors. The virtual keypad is a setting of the phone (called a D-Pad). So now I get the whole screen with the UI but if I press any of the buttons nothing happens.

If I get time this week I might try to recompile the Symbian code against V5 like Hari suggested.

Thanks for everyone's help so far.

One question is it possible to get follow me working with a bluetooth mobile orbiter?

By the way here is a pick of my phone running the JavaMO orbiter.

I will try some other things but how in the hell do I get rid of that virtual joystick and get touchscreen?
Thanks

the app for v3 should run on v4 and v5

br, Hari

Hari, I tried that and when I load it onto my phone I get a application not compatible error.

Please let us know how you get on - am thinking of buying this phone soon myself.

Did you try with the automatic orbiter setup feature where you just switch on the bluetooth, and let it do it's thing? I.e. let LinuxMCE find it, and just follow the onscreen instructions?

Yes but this doesn't work with this phone. It is Symbian OS 5 or 6 and I believe LinuxMCE only supports version 2 or 3.

The phone has all the bluetooth and java apis needed. I am able to get an orbiter running just not the one I want. I can see the different UI's but always get a virtual joystic and call/end call keys which take up more than half the screen.

I will mess with it some more tonight hopefully.

I tried the web orbiter but it seems too slow over wifi.

You'll have to adjust the UI and resolution to your liking in the web admin.
The JavaMO article in the wiki mentions this:
Go to the Orbiter in the pluto-admin web interface (select Orbiters in the Wizard on the left) Adapt the PK_UI, PK_Size and resolution values to match your phones display. If you have no touchscreen on the phone stick with symbian for PK_UI, otherwise choose the normal variant.

So, if you select UI1 as your UI, I think you should be able to use the touch screen. You will have to both regen your orbiter and reload after the regen has finished to apply your new selection.

br,
sambuca

I'm pretty sure I tried all of that. But I'll do it again tonight if I get a chance.

I'll give that a try tonight.

Will that allow me to use the touchscreen without the virtual joystick?

I have loaded the java Mo on my new Nokia 5800 music xpress but get a small screen and a virtual joystick and A,B,C,D buttons. This has a touchscreen with 360x640 resolution. Is it possible to get just the UI1 and use the touchscreen for control. I have tried all different settings in the web admin. Also I notice a field named rotation in the web admin. Would this allow me to rotate so the actual screen is 640x360? if so what are accepted values for this field.

Thanks

Andrew I've done that thrice to no avail. Is there a step I might be missing? Or bad files that may be lingering? Do the new NVIDIA Drivers automatically get installed if they are on the core?

Thx,
Kevin

Hmmm... No they will only get installed if they are added to the deb cache on the Core... then when you build a new MD the updated driver would be used. So I mislead you there - sorry :-(

Simplest thing to do to get this MD working is to add it and then upgrade the driver as you did on the Core.

Andrew

Andrew,

I can't load the drivers because it the MD won't finish boot up with the card in the computer, and th NVidia driver update won't run if it doesn't see the card in the computer.
Where are the drivers located can I just move them to the diskless directory and put a working xorg.conf in there?

I can install ubuntu and everything works so I know the card isn't defective.
