Installation issues / Re: Installing Diskless MDs
« on: February 10, 2017, 08:54:32 pm »
Further investigation shows that the file seems to be there. The boot message says:

"TFTP prefix: /tftpboot/"

It finds vmlinux but not initrd.img. Why? Both are there:

Code: [Select]
root@dcerouter:/tftpboot/82# ls -la
total 8
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Feb 10 14:19 .
drwxr-xr-x 6 root root 4096 Feb 10 14:19 ..
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root   33 Feb 10 14:19 initrd.img -> /usr/pluto/diskless/82/initrd.img
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root   30 Feb 10 14:19 vmlinuz -> /usr/pluto/diskless/82/vmlinuz
root@dcerouter:/tftpboot/82#

Again, any help would be appreciated.

PS: Just saw Phenigma's reply as I was typing this. I will follow the symlinks.

Installation issues / Re: Installing Diskless MDs
« on: February 10, 2017, 08:40:53 pm »

OK. I ran the script and it completed without error.

Then, I turned on my new MD, which is a Core i3 with an Intel motherboard, configured to boot from the network and use an nVidia 7300 graphics card rather than the on board graphics. The diskless installation progressed, also without error. Toward the end there was a message saying that a reboot was required in order to complete the nVidia setup. The system reset and began the PXE boot but stalled, with an error:

"Could not find ramdisk image: 82/initrd.img"

A find search indicates that the files seem to exist:

Code: [Select]
root@dcerouter:~# find / -name initrd.img -print
/tftpboot/82/initrd.img
/usr/pluto/diskless/82/boot/initrd.img
/usr/pluto/diskless/82/initrd.img
/initrd.img

Advice??

Thanks,

CDM

Installation issues / Installing Diskless MDs
« on: February 10, 2017, 06:38:22 pm »

I am running a single 1404 hybrid, which I installed over the Internet. I now want to install a diskless MD. Previously, in 810, I needed to run the following prior to connecting the MD to the network:

Code: [Select]
/usr/pluto/bin/Diskless_CreateTBZ.sh

Is this still the case? Does running it hurt anything if the system is already configured to boot diskless clients?

Thanks,

CDM

Users / Need Advice for Diskless MD running UI2
« on: December 14, 2016, 01:50:31 am »

I am getting ready to expand my 1404 system and need advice for a new diskless MD that I hope to boot from my 1404 hybrid core.

My old system used old SFF desktop machines with Intel x86 processors and they worked without fuss, at the expense of a larger machine with more power consumption and a bit of noise.  I could go this way again but other options may have developed in the intervening years.

The primary goal is for a fully functional MD, running UI2, with good performance and support for all LMCE functions: cameras, telecom, MythTV, etc. If I can achieve this in a smaller, cheaper package, without fuss, great. If not, I'd rather take the conservative route to the goal.

Rpi systems don't seem like an option in terms of UI2 and other functions. What about Intel ATOM systems? AMD? Others?

Please provide advice and experiences here.

I'm sorry for the post, there are patches of info in the wiki and forums but it is hard to discern what the current recommendations are.

Thanks,

CDM

If the output channels are showing up in aplay -l, you might try testing the independently using speaker-test, an ALSA utility. If it works, it will eliminate the nvidia driver as the cause. See below:

Installation issues / Re: No Audio for .mov files
« on: December 07, 2016, 11:46:39 pm »
I saw this old thread and thought to post the solution. The issue was not with .mov files at all. Rather, many of my .mov files were encoded at a DTS bitrate that I expect was incompatible with my receiver. The issue is solved by re-encoding the audio track as Dolby using FFMPEG.

Your situation sounds similar to one that I encountered when I tried to use the wizard to go from analog to HDMI sound. I suggest the following:

Look at the last lines of /etc/pluto/xine.conf. You may need to add the lines for the HDMI ALSA channels and then reload the router. I have to do this after every reboot.

Separately, you can also try selecting the HDMI outputs in MythTV. These settings seem to be independent from the ones in xine.conf. I would try this first.

You need to add the LG as a child device to your hybrid core or MD. The template will allow you to specify the serial port.

Find the template by selecting CORE in the devices tree and then "add child device" -> "pick device template". A pop up will allow you to select LG as the manufacturer. There seem to be three types of displays supported, with different templates: 1915, 2228, and 2126.  You should find the template that contains the serial commands for your model of TV.

I am unsure if the LG is supposed to be plug-and-play. The Denon is but that did not work for me with my AVR2307. I had to add it manually as described above.

Sorry about that. I am using onboard Intel graphics. The audio chip is a Realtek ALC887. Motherboard is an Asus P8H67-M LE.

Thanks again for the very quick reply.

Installation issues / Re: no sound over hdmi
« on: September 17, 2016, 03:04:14 am »

I am bumping this thread because I am having the same issue, though I have found a work around. Consider the following:

1) When I run AVWizard and delect HDMI as the audio output, I get no sound in either Xine or MythTV, independent of the codecs in the video or audio file. The playback in AVWizard works however for both Dolby and DTS.Selecting stereo, everything works as expected with sound coming from the analog audio output.

2) Changing the audio output in Myth Frontend to one of the digital outputs, MythTV works fine.

3) Editing /etc/pluto/xine.conf, commenting the analog output entries at the end of the file, and replacing the with the digital ones generated previously, digital audio works fine in Xine.

I examined the other lines between the analog-generated file and the digital-generated one and it was unclear what was different. I am guessing that this file is generated from /usr/pluto/binAVWizard-XineDefaultConfig.sh. This is a complicated script.

My working xine.conf is below. See the added lines at the bottom:

Code: [Select]
#
# xine config file
#

# Entries which are still set to their default values are commented out.

It would still be good to know if there is a preferred backup method. My hybrid system has two internal discs. A 64G flash drive, for /, /mnt/recovery, swap, and the boot partition. /home is on a 2GB SATA drive. I have been using Clonezilla for the flash drive and rsync for the SATA drive.

Is this a good backup method? What do others do? Please chime in.

I have not used the backup function in WebAdmin because I wasn't sure if it covered the whole system, including non-LMCE apps and media. What does this cover? Does anyone use it?

This past weekend I did a restore of my LMCE installation from a system disc image previously captured using Clonezilla. Everything worked fine except that I had to set the backend IP addresses in mythtv-setup. Where 192.168.80.1 was used, I changed it to 127.0.0.1. Though the external IP had not changed, the install was broken and this fixed it in terms of allowing for viewing of live TV.

The "Don't Auto Configure" box is checked in the WebAdmin screen for the MythTV plugin.

Is this related to the restoration? Is Clonezilla a recommended way to backup and restore?

Otherwise, mythtv seems to break periodically, after weeks or days. Is this normal?
