posde, can also confirm that core only downgrade fixes it.

And you did do an :

apt-get update
apt-get upgrade

first on the core and then on the MD ?
Not sure if necessary, but shutdown and rebooted everyting after that. Only the MythTV crashing problem was then there. Did not yet have time to try the fix for that.

Hi,

Not sure if it is the same thing. On my 1004 system (see link below) I also have got no AC3 sound on the MD. The output is from my soundcard spdif optical to the amplifier.

It works nicely in the test in the 1004 AV wizard though!
Also in 804 it works.

But DVD and other things are only played as PCM over the optical SPDIF!?

Thanks a lot Thom :-)

Hi Thom,

my issue or the softraid issue of dextaslab?

I am using LMCE-1004-20120623013626110 which is the current recomended here

I have started an apt-get update + apt-get upgrade - lets see what happens (it is a test system, so if it breaks it is not a big problem)

I had a similar issue and resolved mine with changing the setting for View "watched only", "unwatched" to the "all" setting using the onscreen orbiter.

Thanks for the feedback :-) But there is no "all" in the orbiter!? Only "watched" and "unwatched" - and it does not matter what I select. All the other settings like genre and so on are also "All".

Users / [solved] 1004: Video list empty, search shows the videos !?
« on: July 30, 2012, 12:22:39 pm »
Hi,

testing the 1004 and now I would like to play some videos. Tried searching for the problem, but did not find anything.

But strangely enough the videos are not shown when i select Video. The list is empty.
They are on a second disk in the system.

If i then in the video list (empty) select "search" and press "i", then all videos with "i" are shown !? and I can then play them.

I had 804 running before that and there it worked. I thought that maybe was owner rights and set them all to "my user" and public. But that did not change anything.

Also in the web interface they are all shown.

The disc link Looks ok :
root@dcerouter:/home/public/data/videos# ll
total 8
drwxrwsr-x  2 root public 4096 2012-07-30 11:59 ./
drwxrwsr-x 11 root public 4096 2012-07-30 12:11 ../
lrwxrwxrwx  1 root public   33 2012-07-30 11:59 184G ST3500320AS (sda8) on dce [31] -> /mnt/device/31/public/data/videos/

any ideas?

Ok, here we go ... now with everything from the 1004 test system

# lspci -nnk | grep VGA -A2
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: NVIDIA Corporation G98 [GeForce 8400 GS] [10de:06e4] (rev a1)
        Kernel driver in use: nvidia
        Kernel modules: nvidia-glx-260, nvidiafb, nouveau

That looks like yours, it is the right kernel modules :-)

I did test
standard video card, xv and high
Geforce and TNT2 video card, xv and high
standard video card, vdpau and vdpau
Geforce and TNT2 video card, vdpau and vdpau

Did the tests with 1080p@50i and 1080@p50

no difference, tearing in myth TV and sometimes I also saw it in screensaver.

Restarted AV wizard, selected "Medium" settings and really nice recording playback/myth TV without tearing :-)
That was using Geforce and TNT2 video card, vdpau and vdpau

No idea why it does not work, but I can live with the missing transparency - even if it does look nicer ;-)

L3MCE, thanks a LOT for helping out and gettings things to work in LinuxMCE, I really appriciate that!

Ok... I looked up your tv. Its weird. It has some bizarre motionview thing.

Please try it at 100hz on 1080p. That is what it asks for by spec.
Hmm, I have not tried it yet, but I am pretty sure it will not work. Does the AV wizard support 100hz?

The TV is quite old now >4 years, so at that time 100hz was pretty new. And I am sure that there was no 1080p 100hz input out there... maybe today?
I am pretty sure that 100Hz TVs don't accept a 100Hz input. Instead they interpolate intermediate frames to effectively double a 50Hz input to 100Hz.

The motionview is doing that. Making the picture less "flimmering". I have earlier tried disabling it, but then the picture is worse as it flimmers/stutters more. Today i think they are doing the same at 400-800 hz.
Here a cut from a website :

"MotionFlow system doubles the PAL refresh rate and interpolates new intermediate frames of image data to make motion look more fluid and clear."

And I am pretty sure it will not create any tearing ;-) as I had that also with my old 0810 system and fixed it also there with settings in xorg.conf (see other thread compositing).

So I should then select one of the other choices? IIRC there was another UI2 setting to choose from, it is called medium here?
Hmm, are there nvidia cards out there that can do Alpha blending/compositing AND tearing free playback?

Well, yes, I have installed my own driver on the system where I did run the lspci command. I took it from my 0810. Sorry, should have written that. Just thought you needed the version of the card. To get the test system online i have to shutdown my prod system as they use the same network and MD. Only the server is a different PC.
Do you need the line from the real 1004 system? Then I will get it. I will also look at if I am using the right driver.

IIRC (am not at home right now) then  "Gforce or TNT2" was already choosen. I did then select VDPAU in the two places "accelleration" and "interlacing". Did a quick reload and also a reboot of the MD.  But that did NOT change anything in MythTV. I had to go there and setup "VDPAU normal" manually.

Thanks for clearing things up, it will surely also help the next one having trouble (if the find this thread).

Are there any guidance or HOWTO's in the wiki or elsewhere that tell you what to do if you have a NVidia card in your MD and would like clean nice playback. And the same if you have an Intel/AMD or whatever...
I am just thinking, that I have some trouble getting it online and I have done it before. If we want newbies to get into this they should be guided. Maybe some links on the download page.

So the EDID informations are not correctly?

Would it be possible to change something so that in that case it would try the ones from the link :
http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/User_Manual:JudderFree

They all work on my TV - except theese three - but those do we not need :
Modes "1920x1080@25" "1920x1080@29.97" "1920x1080@30"

Not sure if I am using compositing!?
I did not change anything myself. It is the standard setup of LinuxMCE.

with the standard option the menu's are looking better as one can "see through" the buttons (video/audio) and so on. After disable Composite in xorg.conf they are black.

# lspci -nnk | grep VGA -A2

Hi,

testing 1004 I had a lot of tearing and enabled Sync to vblank in the nvidia-settings but it did not help.

So I did some searching and found out that I should disable Composite in xorg.conf - after that really nice TV playback without tearing :-)
http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/VDPAU#Tearing.2FStuttering

Now I am wondering why it is not defaultly so configured?

Hi,

sorry for the late reply, had a lot to do and holiday with the kids :-)

Strangly enough 1080p/24 hz works and also 1080p/60hz, but 1080p 50hz does not work. And that is the one i need.

Hmm, might be that the theory does not allow 100% judderfree!? I don't know.

But I have tested a lot on my 0810 with Mythvideo plugin and when it is allowed with this config :
http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/User_Manual:JudderFree

I have also activated both vsync options in nvidia-settings for a long time. And have the feeling it is REALLY judderfree. At least I am pretty feely with that and when playing 23.97 on 24hz I saw "jumps" on some pan's when they were long. Now with the above config I have not noticed anything yet. But it has only been running for a couple of days ;-)
I would say it is really important to implement it as when testing replay with the normal playback of xine and changing the rates I notoced a big difference!

Try it yourself with the above config or my xorg.conf from here (might work) but notice: it is important is changing Option "DynamicTwinView" to "true" !!!
