OK,

I each movie is in it's own directory because of another media management program that I use on another system that accesses this server.

LMCE will not allow me to delete the movie directory through the admin website, which is what I was trying to do, but it will allow me to delete the actual movie file. That is close enough, I can reuse the rest of the info in the folder anyway.

Thanks again Matt.

I will post an example tomorrow to show you what I mean.

Thanks though.

I am currently using LMCE as an automation controller and media server. Basically it is currently set up as a core (though it's installed as a hybrid from the dvd) providing DHCP to 4 windows boxes. 2 of these are laptops on a wireless network and 2 are a desktop configuration which I would eventually like to network boot. I haven't gotten that working yet on this install. Something to do with network drivers on the boot image. In any case when I switched to using Windows on some other boxes I had to convert the .dvd movie files to .mpg so i could play them on windows. a few of those files did not convert smoothly and so they hang, skip around or terminate early.

I am re-ripping those as i find them to correct the issue. So here is my question. I do not have a monitor, keyboard etc plugged into the core. I as I find a corrupt movie, I need to be able to delete the old file and replace it with a good rip. I don't want to have to lug out a keyboard and accessories every time, I would like to be able to delete the files over the network, so that I can drop the new files on. I can create files remotely, but i do not have permission to delete them. I have tried to delete them through the admin website, but that doesn't seem to actually do anything. ssh has trouble with the LMCE-given names of movie storage drives and will not let me access them because of the (sdxx) portion. doesn't like the (). Using Nautilus or windows explorer on another machine gets the permissions error as well.

I am sure that ssh should work and that would be fine, but I have tried using a quotation, \, /dev/sdxx, and I cannot seem to get to the files.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

didn't mean to come across as whining or anything. Was just asking because I didn't know. Thanks for the info though, and for the mod.

Users / Re: Is there a windows orbiter for LinuxMCE 8.10?

Someone had posted a link to the orbiter installer file for those that needed it in the meantime. It is in the forum. If the link is dead I have multiple copies of it backed up and can repost it.

What should happen when a dvd or .dvd finishes playing? Should it go back to the dvd menu and stay there or should it terminate and return to the screensaver? Seems like it used to go back to the screensaver but I cannot remember.

Mine is currently going back to the dvd menu and staying there until I act on it. This makes .dvd playlists pointless because if I exit out of the menu it sends me to the screensaver and does not continue to the next .dvd.

Next question

I seem to be having difficulty finding documentation on the proper way to implement commands into linuxmce as far as automating functions. They seem to be a little less than positively intuitive to figure out. For example, the way to start Myth and tune to a channel at a specific time is something like MHmediaplay and not Mythtv player - on. Then a separate command must be sent to change the channel because it all runs together and doesn't tune if you implement the commands together. It has been a bit since I did that but it was something like that. This is OK, but not terribly intuitive. As a result I was hoping to find a how-to somewhere.

Installation issues / Re: Hulu Desktop missing flash
« on: June 21, 2010, 09:07:09 pm »
Yes, installing the .deb from adobe's website works. just go to youtube and try to play a video, when it prompts you to install the plugin, use the hyperlink which takes you to adobe's website. choose the .deb file and when it is downloaded to the desktop, click it from there. That is the only way I could get it to work. Using mozilla to launch it and every other method I tried failed.

Yes, confirmed. It was waiting on me to switch the video output. No beep this time. Oh well, I should have figured it out when the screen went to standby.

shift 2 switched to the correct input and I completed the avwizard.

I am not at home, I got that info over ssh. I will try it again in the morning.

That is amusing. I bet the problem is that I am an idiot.

Come to think of it the screen went to sleep after that. I bet it went to the avwizard on a different video output. I will use the key combo to switch it to DVI when I get home.

Normally it beeps when it starts the avwizard though, perhaps not this time. I will post back if that was my issue.

Well it has now happened to 2 beta testers. I installed hulu desktop today and also got the flash error.

I am sure that flash is installed, but there is an issue in there somewhere.

I am having a similar problem, but mine has only made it to the  "Restarting OpenBSD secure Shell Server..." once. It usually hangs at the line about pxelinux.0

Go figure.

I suspect that mine has something to do with the fact that it keeps trying to install the 177 or 173 nvidia drivers, despite me having the 195 installed on the hybrid.

I do not have a nas, but there is a windows xp machine on the network outside of the media network. (not on 192.168.80.*, on 192.168.1.*). LMCE asked me if I wanted to use it and I told it never to use it. There doesn't seem to be any further issue with it.

Installation issues / nvidia-settings is stuck on old version
« on: June 17, 2010, 04:44:41 pm »
I just did a reinstall from 6-11 snapshot. The issue is this, I seem to be stuck with the 177 version of nvidia-settings. According to the hardware drivers screen, I have the 195 drivers installed, but I am not too confident in that either as when I try to set up a md, it appears to try and use the old nvidia drivers as well.

I tried using synaptic to uninstall, then reinstall nvidia-settings, but it still sticks me with the same version. I need to get the new version so I can fiddle with the overscan and make my desktop viewable on my sdtv.

would something like removing nvidia everything and downloading the 195 version from nvidia's website work? Is this asking for trouble as far as LMCE stability is concerned?

Any thoughts?
