Users / need help to make a grub CD for netboot. [Solved]
« on: July 31, 2010, 02:03:45 am »
I am on my way to reinstall the system. already downloading the latest snapshot as my system broke.
I have a computer with decent video card in it , unfortunately the motherboard does not support PXE netboot.

My question is , HOw can I make my own grub Cd that allows me to boot from net and I can use this pc as an MD.

there is a wiki  page.. http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/GRUB_PXE_network_boot

but as a normal user its going above my head.

I would appreciate if someone can direct me step by step to follow.

I want to make a bootable CD.

Thank you in advance.

hello guys,,

I know I am stretching this issue little more than it deserve. I have been using the system and last time (before i reinstall) i used usb Uirt with success. ever since i haven't change any hard ware may be the kernel has changed. but I have noticed something in my device template of usbuirt different than before.

i have attached a pic (check attachment) along with the post. what should be there for device comp port ?

I think i have seen something different in my previous install. just checking.

thank you all. currently the system is running fine ever since I have unplugged my Usb Uirt.

I know the air circulation is not an issue because my case is awesome. I will post a pic some day. LOL

wow,, sorry to bother you guys, little more update.

Last night , the system froze while I was watching something. exactly at around 11. just now I noticed there is a error in my obiters log.

Error log

Device OnScreen Orbiter, # 21
Device Template OnScreen Orbiter, device category Standard Orbiter, manufacturer Pluto.

01   07/21/10 22:01:55.059      Orbiter::CMD_Goto_DesignObj m_pScreenHistory_Current while doing the object offscreen <0xb5292b90>

This matches exact time it froze yesterday.  Does it tell any information?

Keyboard works?
What mouse and keyboard do you have?
Keyboard and mouse connected to USB?
What is the motherboard and processor?
Can you telnet / ssh to it?

I am using logitech dinovo mini which servers purpose of keyboard and mouse both and yes that connects via USB. right now as I am typing the system is working just fine.
Asus P5Q and core 2 duo processor.
I don't know how to telnet/ssh .

Thanks for your reply.

Try leaving your system with the Denovo USB dongle removed... see if the system fails to lockup without the Denovo's USB dongle. Some USB device can cause a USB Disconnect (MCE receivers will lock your system up if removed while the system is running for example) when removed or sometimes even while connected. Do the test and see if its the Denovo causing the problem...if not then you have removed another variable.

All the best

Andrew

thanks Andrew,, your point raised a question, I have recetly added usb Uirt to my system and since then I think i am having this issue. can it be possible?

There are some hardware which does not handle USB right. Did happen to me, mouse and keyboard freeze, and the only way was to reboot, to restore it's use. But ssh worked, so i could use the system. Try to use webadmin from another orbiter or computer and see if it works. If yes, then you problem might be USB.....

well yes I had used weborbiter when it used to freez with myth problems,, this time when it freezes i cannot access the weborbiter. neither from internal nor from external network.

Installation issues / Re: NVidia GT220, no AVWizard
« on: July 22, 2010, 09:24:01 pm »
hey I am not an expert but I had similar issue with 8800 GT where I get to a point where no AV wizard. I can show you my trick, its not technical but it works.

1. you said, you had your system up and running with your 220 out. if so, get your system up running without 220, hope you will see your basic UI1 on the screen and everything else is fine.

2. from there you want to rerun AV wizard from advance. the system will try to restart. as soon as you see the bios screen turn it off. in other words do not let it completely restart. at this what you want to do is,, put your 220 back in and let it restart. it is the same way as pressing the "shift" key between two beeps unfortunately for some reason my system does not make that beeps so I follow this weird method.

3. now assuming you have 220 card in and your system is trying to restart and it should try to get AV wizard. the problem is the system will try to give the screen from basic connection. in my 8800 GT it was s-video connection. since I had two DVI and one S-video. try to connect all inputs VGA preferable, if not the svideo and it will give you the AV wizard screen.

if you dont see any thing... press 3 wait,,,,,, nothing then try press 4 ,,, wait... for DVIs there is a list for number but for latest it does not corelate and also varies from card to card. after all,, the system will try the basic input on your card first followed by DVI then hDMI... thats how it goes....

I hope my steps make sense to you. please dont give up. you are almost there. as you had it up running once. its just few steps and you will be happy.

let me know,  thanks.

Users / troubleshoot : system hangs need help [solved for now]
« on: July 21, 2010, 06:01:08 pm »
Hello guys,

I have been using linuxmce since a while now. my system core/hybrid 8.10 is running just fine. Except there is one little problem. And I dont know how should I solve it.

The Problem : system starts and runs just normal in the evening, next day morning when I wake up, I see it hanged. I cannot move cursor nothing. Only thing I have to do is hard reboot meaning turn it off by holding power key and turn back on after a while.  Sounds like heat issue but my case is running almost 6 fans !!

MY guess : unfortunately I have refurbished 8800GT and I am guessing that after a while the GPU is dying.

I dont know how to read logs. If someone can guide me through. how can i find out what is going on?

thank you all in advance.

take it easy. :)

Installation issues / Re: HVR 1600 in Beta2

http://mythtv.org/wiki/Hauppauge_HVR-1600

Here is the link for 1600 set up. just follow the link from backend setup. People say V4L drivers are better but I am still using IVTV. You can choose either and play around.

A little word : do not set up via sara. I am not using device template for the card. I followed this tutorial to setup my tuner card.

Hope that helps. Let me know.

Thanks. and take it easy.
