Installation issues / Re: SOLVED: AVWizard resolution problem
« on: October 13, 2009, 06:02:05 am »
I am having the same problem.

I use DVI port, my card is nvidia 7200. My AV wizard goes fine but when "sara" comes in for some reason it make 800 * 480 and i just cannot see the buttons on setup wizards.

I can understand your steps but can you be more specific about going  "shh in" and modifying xorg.conf file? (exactly How?)

i mean from step 2 onwards.

thanks you.

okay, I got one problem solved
I updated Alsa on the MD to 1.0.21...I did a little digging around the net and arrived here:

Code: [Select]
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1046137They provide a script, that automatically downloads, compiles and updates the drivers, if I understood it right.
(you have to be registered to download the script)
So now I checked with alsamixer and suddenly I got all the controls I needed...sound optical is working nicley now.
I haven't tried hdmi, but right now I don't care that much for it.

Right now I have only two issues remaining here: getting the sound from the core
and getting MythTV to playback TV on the MD. MythTV-stup still claims that there non-exisiting paths for storage, but they are all there.
Interstingly, like I mentioned earlier, TV is working on the core.

My system was working and i lost sound all of a sudden. My soundcard is detected in alsamixer. I want to try updating alsa there are few problems.
I found similar script but it has tobe in /home folder. for some reason I can not copy it in /home :(

if you can give me steps to follow with commands,, i would appreciate.

Thanks .

Installation issues / Re: USB UIRT - learn mode stopped working - SOLVED
« on: October 04, 2009, 06:58:29 pm »
Worked it out!

Just in case anyone has same problem, the device template had lost the setting for which device/port was controlling it.
In this case the USB port had somehow changed from pci0000:00/0000:00:02.0+2 to pci0000:00/0000:00:02.0+3

Therefor opened the device and changed the COM port to the correct port that the USB UIRT was running on, and voilla can now learn codes again.

Can you please explain how to find out which port the device is connected to?

I am sorry , this might sound silly but I got my new USB uirt but unable to get it working.

I think I am missing some step to set it up and configure it.
I had my uirt pnp and the system installed its software successfully. followed by when I see under my devices ---> Media director i see windows XP MC remote is installed and  Infrared Receiver is set to USB UIRT 0038.
MY USB uirt Device is #36.

My questions are....

1. I do not use windows remote, do I need that windows remote installed as remote.
2. I use logitech dinovo mini. so basically I need

logitech---->core/system------>usb-uirt--------->sony TV

is it possible ?

Please help me here.

Thanks.

Installation issues / Hauppauge HVR 1600.........There is a hope !!!
« on: September 22, 2009, 07:24:16 am »
Hello guys,

Little intro. I cannot call myself newbiee anymore becasue a year ago, I build linuxmce 7.10 and got it working but then I did not have much money to get cool stuffs so I had to shut down the project. after one year I am giving it a try again. in mean while i have following hardwares purchased.
1. Asus P5Q mother board. (that has one gigabyte lan port on it)
2. Asus Xonar D2 series 7.1 sound card
3. another PCI gigabyte lan adapter
4. Hauppauge HVR 1600 tv tuner card.
5. NVidia 7200 series graphic card.

I tested all my hardwares with Ubuntu one by one. Here is my story for Hauppauge 1600 HVR card.

I tried to set up mythtv on ubuntu 8.10 just a few months ago. during installation I found that nvidia graphic is conflicting with the driver. I followed the guide on this page.

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1043884

According to this guide, by adding "vmalloc=256M" to /boot/grub/menu.lst file solved my problem and I got card working with mythtv on Ubunut 8.10.

Now, just five days ago I have installed linuxmce 8.10 fresh install and I got my Asus Xonar D2 sound card working just out of the box and got spdif optical output.

Followed by I tried to put Hauppauge 1600 in and when I booted up, It brings me to commandline login. where I can login.
Looks to me once I log in, I am in the home/user directory.
I can use pwd, ls commands and jump back and forth.:))
but,
I have to admit that I am not a lot command person. I can just follow the steps.

I am hoping that going into the grub/menu.lst file and putting that value can solve the problem for me. but I am scared to give it a try without any expert opinion because Linuxmce is not as easy to reinstall as regular ubuntu :))

I am ready to give it a try, can some one help me here and tell me the step to follow please.....???

I will wait for the reply.

Thank you all.

Users / Re: Need a good low profile Sound card
« on: September 21, 2009, 08:23:27 pm »
I think I should write something down here.
I am very picky for my sound quality. I read a lot good review about Asus Xonar series and got myself Xonar D2 sound card.
Few months ago I tried it on Ubuntu but did not get my spdif out so I switched to XP and used it for a while and I love it.

Just two days ago. I installed 8.10 Linuxmce and wow.. soundcard work out of the box. I am getting Optical spdif out without any problem. Nothing gets better than this.... Its awesome !!!!!

Hope this helps...

Thanks.

Installation issues / Re: Logitech Dinovo Mini

Hi,

Did you see this wiki?

http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Logitech_Dinovo_Mini

Cheers.

OKey. here is my story. I did fresh install 8.10 two days ago and my logitech Dinovo was kinda plug in play. mouse pad was working just fine. all the media buttons as well. to get my Fn7 and Fn8 keys working i followed wiki guide. but it seems to me little confusing. I have few questions for the wiki guide.

Q 1.  where should I add the line, options usbhid quirks=0x046d:0xc71f:0x00080000 in my options file ? I mean beginning or end ?  What is the command in Kubuntu to edit text file ?

Q.2  My /etc/X11/xorg.conf file does not have any thing that says.....

Section "InputDevice"
   Identifier     "Keyboard0"
   Driver         "keyboard"
   Option         "XkbLayout" "us"
   Option         "XkbVariant" "basic"
   Option         "XkbModel" "pc105"
EndSection

so what am I suppose to do. ?

I modified my /usr/share/X11/xkb/keycodes

put those FK08 ; FK07 numbers and  I got my window key working but still no key working to bring main menu.  I am lost , Please help me.

by the way, I am editing those files with sudo kate (file path) in terminal. I am not sure is it the proper way ?

Thanks.

Installation issues / Re: 810 setup - repository errors
« on: September 21, 2009, 02:21:05 pm »
Hi,

I really don't understand why you guys are having repository/troubles building a Core.

I've rebuilt alpha so many times and have never had a problem.

Sorry Hari about the bandwidth.

Just in case it's procedural, here's what I do...

Quote
                                             Installation of LinuxMCE-0810 alpha2

Procedure:

   1. Install Kubuntu 0810 (Intrepid Ibex).

   2. After Kubuntu software has been installed perform a reboot (follow instructions on screen).

   3. After login, open the K Launch Manager to Applications > System > Terminal.

Log in as root - enter...

      sudo su -

[sudo] password for XXXXXX:   (XXXXXX is your username -The password is what you specified during
      the kubuntu installation.)

   4. To see the active kernel enter...

      uname -r

At the time of writing it is 2.6.27.7-generic

   5. Run aptitude update and aptitude dist-upgrade to get the latest Kubuntu updates.

      Enter...

      apt-get update
      apt-get dist-upgrade

   6. If required (Nvidia card installed), enable the most recent NVIDIA restricted (video) driver.

      This can be done by

      a) selecting the hardware icon on the task bar and activating the recommended version.

      b) navigating via the K Launch Manager to Applications > System > Hardware Drivers.
Enter your password (if required) and highlite the latest version.
Then select the Activate button to download and install the driver.

      c) If your card can not be enabled from a or b open the K Launch Manager to
Applications > Add/Remove Software Adept Installer and search for NVidia.
Select the latest binary X.org driver.

(After doing the apt-get dist-upgrade in step 5, the latest nvidia driver should be 180.)

Restart the system to activate the latest nvidia driver.

   7. After the reboot to see the active kernel enter...

      uname -r

At the time of writing it is 2.6.27.14-generic.  (The 180 nvidia driver should be active at this
point from step 6.  Check the hardware icon in the task bar.)

   8. After login, open the K Launch Manager to Applications > System > Terminal.
Log in as root - enter...

      sudo su -

[sudo] password for XXXXXX:   (XXXXXX is your username -The password is what you specified during
      the kubuntu installation.)

   9. Enter...

      wget -c http://deb.linuxmce.org/ubuntu/new-installer-alpha-latest.tar.gz

  10. Unpack the tar file. Enter...

      tar xvf new-installer-alpha-latest.tar.gz

  11. Then change to the just created new-installer directory.

      cd new-installer

  12. Run the following scripts (in order): pre-install-from-repo.sh, mce-install.sh, post-install.sh.

      ./pre-install-from-repo.sh
      ./mce-install.sh
      ./post-install.sh

  13. When completed reboot the system.
After the restart wait for the system activity to stop.
      The A/V wizard will appear.

  14. Setup your requirements using the A/V wizard.
When you have finished the A/V setup the X window will restart.
The system will start various processes.  Please be patient as this will take a while.

Personal System Changes (edited)

To get the Core to play decrypted and encrypted DVD's.

  1. Install extra packages.

/usr/share/doc/libdvdread3/install-css.sh (this installs libdvdcss2)  [may need to install libdvdread3]
      apt-get install w32codecs
      apt-get install kubuntu-restricted-extras

I hope this helps to avoid issues.

These steps are really amazing. It worked just perfect for me. Its just you have to be extremely patience. It took me whole night. but at the end system was working just fine. Thanks.

I have just installed fresh 8.10 and it was working fine until the update.
Now I am facing the same problem.
It took me a night to install the system, is there any other way to solve the problem rather than reinstalling ?

Installation issues / Asus Xonar series soundcard
« on: December 10, 2008, 05:23:57 am »
Hello,
I am gathering hardwares for my linuxmce.
My research says, recently Asus has come out with its Xonar series sound card and there are pretty good reviews of the card.
I am planning to buy Asus Xonar D2 PCI sound card..
These are quite powerful cards.
But looks like there is no driver so far for linux.

I wonder if Developers can come out with its driver solution...
Or should I try it on my system? I am ready to experiment if somebody ready to help me.

I shall wait until someone replies to my post.

Thank you.
