Users / system down, need help!
« on: December 07, 2016, 10:45:02 pm »
Hey guys,

typical holiday season, once again, when I plan to enjoy the most and it broke for me.

So here is the history.
I had a perfectly working system with Nvidia GT430 graphic card and Asus Xonar D2 soundcard. I had video coming out from HDMI and Audio coming out from Optical out from the soundcard.

Now I bought a A-V receiver (Marantz) and though I would just get audio and Video from HDMI only. (previously I had logitech speaker system that would only accept coax or optical output therefore I could not use hdmi audio before)

So, I went to Advanced (from orbiter) - and ran the "AVWizard" ----- system booted --------- (it took couple of boots) and I was presented with AVwizard, Yey, I selected hdmi, resolution(1080p) , soundcard as Nvidia HDMI and successfully finish AVWizard. System regenerated orbiter screen but never made it to UI on screen. (yes I did follow rule #1)

What is working?
I have an access to webadmin from internal netwrok.
I can ssh into the core from internally.

Can anyone help me to get what I want, Or am I looking at reinstall?

Please reply.

Thank you. Teju. :o

« on: September 11, 2016, 08:57:32 pm »
Hey guys,,,

I am experiencing hiccups to access internet on my internal network.

here is how my setup is...

Comcast ------> LinksysRouter (Primary)-------> LMCE ---------> Netgear router(Secondary)

I only experience slow internet access when I connect to Netgear that is (internal network ) for LMCE.

No problem If i  connect to Linksys.

I am not sure how to troubleshoot.

Let me know

Thanks. Teju.

Users / Latest i3, i5 or i7 processors hardware question.
« on: June 03, 2016, 03:54:22 am »
I am going to upgrade my core hardwares. I am going to built on a microatx motherboard and probably choose intel i3 or i5 processor.
I know that nvidia is preferred way to for lmce.

So here is my question. Based on the fact that these modern processor with integrated graphic support, would it work with LMCE?

That way I would get hdmi video and audio out of my motherboard itself. Only have to throw in an extra  PCI ethernet card and fly off.

I hope my question make sense. Please advise.

« on: May 02, 2016, 02:36:08 am »
Hello guys,

Let me just start with, I do not even know how to explain my case. I would try my best.
I have security system installed in the house I recently purchase and I finally powered it up. the system works. I was wondering that if I can have it work with LMCE however I find there is no way to connect the system to the computer !! there is only one cable comes out from the panel looks like suppose to go to phone line to dial out. I do not think the LMCE would detect the panel through that cable.

Lead me into more search. I found out that there is a module that I can buy which would allow me to attach RS232. The module is known as
"Interlogix 60-783-02 SuperBus 2000 Automation Module with RS232". The installation instruction of the module says RS232 is configured as DCE device. I am attaching a screen shot here. Which I think LMCE should be able to talk with.

Second thing is,,, the whole purpose of security system is when something happens,, It should inform the authority. however. I am at the moment not going to buy any service. AS of now, I know that my phone system is not supported with LMCE. I use ooma voip as phone line. I have never used phone feature of the LMCE before. however I found a post where someone has Ooma system working with asterisk using linksys SPA-3102. Again, thats another topic.

that means my goal is to self monitoring the home using LMCE. For example on an event.. I want LMCE to take a pic or video or send and email to me whenever any is a sensor triggers when its armed. Anyways,, that is a long way to go.

here is the installation manuals for system and the module.

System : https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B4wop5wRNSQJSTNSek9UNE1xQ1E
module: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B4wop5wRNSQJZmVZQ0haV0ZnOW8

So why am I posting these manuals? I do not know. Trying to provide as much info as I can.
somewhere on the manual I found that it is possible to get device BUS ID for each sensors and devices on the system. That could be helpful, Correct?
Do you guys think I am heading to right direction?
Is it possible to achieve what I want to achieve?

As I said before,, My post is all over the place. Any word from GODs would be appreciated.

Thank you very much.

Hey guys,,

I am experiencing some issues with my system and unable to resolve despite my efforts. The purpose of the thread is not to complain but to report.
I would try my level best to explain as much as I can.

1.) I have Nvidia 6200 card and as we know it is not supported by latest driver. Therefore I went ahead and installed nvidia-304-131. The system is successfully running however, here are the related issue.
First of all, I was never able to see clearly AVWizard except step 1. as soon as I pick DVI, Resolution, and refresh rates. all rest steps were completely unreadable. I finished AVwizard blindly used my experience for it. having said. I have UI on my screen that is completely off tract. I am attaching the pic.

I may be able to solve the problem with 1.) manually edit xorg.conf 2.) re run AV wizard which I have already tried unsuccessfully. On the same system I sometimes boot into separate desktop (debian KDE) where I use same nvidia driver for same card and the resolution looks perfect on that while for LMCE even on KDE desktop, the card is not at its best.
Third,, I sometimes get error during boot saying "fixing recursive fault but reboot needed" and it hangs up. two third attempt and its boots normally for me.

I believe these all are related to my Nvidia card. and the way driver has installed and also the kernel issue. I would post xorg.conf for both system here so someone can help.

2.) When I play any video file on the LMCE , the picture not at all sync with my monitors resolution. I do not know ,, weather its nvidia again or something with xine player issue.

3.) I have installed a logitech 9000 security camera according to wiki page and it works perfect. however, other day I noticed that my /etc/pluto/bin directory was flooded with .jpg files and I noticed those images were from my camera whenever I accessed security webcam from the orbiter. "is that normal ?" I never seen that happening before unless design has been changed.

Please see the following command outputs, hope that helps.

Users / Media not appearing 14.04 on Second hard drive.
« on: April 04, 2016, 06:30:55 am »
Hey guys,

I am on 14.04. After installing my Hybrid Core. I added my media drive to the system. upon reboot the system detected the drive. It basically gave me three choices on the screen.
1. ) use linuxmce file structure.
2.) make everything public
3.) choose the user for the content to use.

I originally had the linuxmce file structure on my media drive since it has only two directories "public" and "user_1". however the message scared me so I selected to make everything public as I have contents on the drive.

I understand that if I have a lot of stuffs on the drive it would take time to populate the media. However after waiting so long I still dont have anything populated.

I think, contents are only exist on drive not in database. Also, the drive is mounted as "Other" instead of to Public directory.

Please take a look at the screenshot and I hope it would make more sense.

What should I do? Is it permission issue?
Is it possible to use the drive use as linuxmce file structure, without loosing any contents? in otherwords, is there a go back?

Please advice.
Thanks.

hey guys,
I installed 14.04 fresh install last night via the netinstall method. I knew that my graphic card is not supported by latest Nvidia drivers. I had some rough time installing kubuntu desktop and finally successfully install Lmce with basic UI. However as I presumed the system has pulled latest driver for the card after I went through AVWizard.

The driver version I need is 304.131. I know the card runs pretty stable with that driver.
My question is , how can I revert back to 304.131. and How can I prevent the system from pulling it again.

My Skill levels, ( I can ssh into core, I only know how to use nano not vim )

Thank you all in advance.

Installation issues / 14.04 install story ( close)
« on: March 02, 2015, 04:38:36 pm »
Hey guys,

I do not expect much support on this version. Purpose is to help out dev. I tried to install 14.04 and DVD install snapshot 21Feb 2015.

Kubuntu install went fine but the system just reboots now. It never gave me AV wizard.
The monitor was conneced via VGA to the graphic Card. Nvidia Geforce GT430.

currently I am using a live image to provide some logs. I am not sure which logs would help but attaching some here. Let me know what to do from here.

Thanks.

Users / kind of newbiee Question on Security Panel
« on: December 16, 2014, 05:55:02 pm »
I basically had no other way to explain my question so I shot a video.

I have never used security feature under Lmce , so please advise/comment how to have lmce communicate with such a security system. The house is prewired with sensors and they all terminate on the board shown in Video. Rest the video will explain, Please take a look.

Users / Odd request ; for a youtube tutorial !!
« on: October 25, 2014, 06:00:59 pm »
Hello Everyone,

I would appreciate if someone who already has setup for a z-wave control can make a youtube tutorial to show how its set up with Linuxmce? ie. may be temperature control, lighting control or whatever you may have.

I also request for a Tutorial for multizone audio setup? I have read posts but a youtube tutorial would be nice.

Thanks.

« on: July 05, 2014, 08:27:22 pm »
hello there,

I fired up my core after a long time. works fine but upon trying to update, I am not fetching sources.

My source.list look like following,
Quote
deb file:/usr/pluto/deb-cache ./

deb http://deb.linuxmce.org/ubuntu/ lucid beta2
deb http://deb.linuxmce.org/ubuntu/ 20dev_ubuntu  main
# deb http://packages.medibuntu.org/  lucid free non-free
deb http://debian.slimdevices.com/ stable  main
deb http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu lucid partner
deb mirror://mirrors.ubuntu.com/mirrors.txt  lucid main restricted universe multiverse
deb mirror://mirrors.ubuntu.com/mirrors.txt  lucid-updates main restricted universe multiverse
deb mirror://mirrors.ubuntu.com/mirrors.txt  lucid-security main restricted universe multiverse

I commented out medibuntu repo just now to avoid error. still I sense something is wrong.

Any input?

Thanks.
