16  LinuxMCE / Installation issues / Re: Hangs up after 2 days!! on: July 22, 2008, 11:13:42 pm
Thank you both. I have disables the flickr screensaver, and my unused ports. I find it hard to believe that such a large community has this kind of elementary problem. Has anyone installed MCE and not had it hang up within a few days?

I for one would be happy to shop at a store that has done the hard work for me. That is, finding compatible hardware and putting it altogether in one place. I also don't mind paying more for that service. I am as much a geek as anybody, but I find I often get frustrated combing through forums and scouring the net trying to find parts that work well together. Many times I am disappointed with the results. Being able to buy hardware that I'm reasonably certain will play nicely together is worth more than the 5-10% or so I might save buying it somewhere else.

I 100% agree with this. I'm no dummy when it comes to linux, but I work as a network technician. All I do all day is fix linux systems. About the last thing I want to do when I get home is start fighting hardware and compiling stuff just to watch TV on my plasma. It's fun to have projects and play with stuff, but sometimes you just want things to work. Things that my family has to use, I don't want them to have to fight. I would spend extra money for a pre-built kit.

Thank you so much friend!! This completely fixed my problem. I'm still thinking of upgrading my hardware as it hangs up after about two days. But I have another computer I'm going to see if I can recreate the same problem, and that might give me an idea of which way to go!!

Thanks again, by the way your instructions are excellent. Very detailed!!!
20  LinuxMCE / Installation issues / Hangs up after 2 days!! on: July 20, 2008, 11:27:06 pm
Everything in my media center works great. But after about 2 days of it being on, even if it isn't doing anything, it hangs up. Any suggestions?

21  LinuxMCE / Installation issues / Haup. 350 Sound very low on: July 18, 2008, 09:18:06 am
My volume for my MP3 playback is excellent, but the playback for my Haup tv card is lower, not to the point where I can't hear it it's usable, but I'm wondering, I don't currently  have a separate sound card, just the one that came with the motherboard. It only has to PCI slots, one is used for my video card the other for the TV tuner, so my question. Do I replace the motherboard to get one with enough PCI slots so that I can add a good sound card, OR do I replace the 350 if so is there another TV tuner that is as plug and play as the 350.

Thank you
