Thanks for the reply.

Yes, I'm using 0710. That didn't even occur to me - I will try your suggestion later, thank you.

Does this mean that I shouldn't be able to see ANY packages? It's just that when I apt-cache search, I can still see some packages (just not the ones I'm after!).

Hello all,

I hope I'm not being monumentally silly here...

I thought I'd have a go at installing VDR, but have fallen at the first hurdle. I've been following this page on the wiki http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/VDR

When I tried
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get install vdradmin-am the package couldn't be found.

So I thought I'd skip that, and try
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get install dvb-utils and again, the packge couldn't be found.

I tried
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get update and I also tried searching for similar packages, but to no avail.

Am I missing something? (Apart from "vdradmin-am" and "dvb-utils" of course!)

Andrew,
did you get your Revo yet?
-Krys

Hmmm... no we didn't :-(

I'll post here as soon as we do though with some early reactions & info ;-)

Andrew

Hi Andrew,

Did the Revo arrive in the end?

Please let us know how you get on - am thinking of buying this phone soon myself.

Did you try with the automatic orbiter setup feature where you just switch on the bluetooth, and let it do it's thing? I.e. let LMCE find it, and just follow the onscreen instructions?

That's fantastic, thank you. My 399Us have just arrived, so will give this a try during the week.

Any comment on the symlinks? Mine always seem to disappear after a reboot, which means my smaller OS hard disk fills up with recordings extremely quickly.

Thanks again for your help.

Thanks for the reply.

It doesn't appear to be in the "programs that are running" bit, and if I press the Orbiter launcher a second time, it crashes the phone (gives me multiple error noises whenever anything is pressed and locks up completely).

I wondered if I have installed the correct CAB file? Or whether I could somehow "start from scratch" and try the automatic installation again?

Hello all,

I have the original o2 XDA orbit, and have been having some problems getting it set up.

Firstly, the wifi is knackered, so I need to use bluetooth (the dongle is plugged into a media director).

I have installed orbiter_Treo.cab on my phone, and have added a Windows smartphone 2005 through the admin pages. When I run the software on my phone, I see the "minimising in 10 seconds....." message, and then it either minimises, or closes, I cannot be sure.

What am I supposed to do next? I can't seem to find a wiki page explaining what I should do to get it to connect to the system. I would be using the automatic detection feature, but for some reason it doesn't detect my phone any more (I know it should work, because it has done in the past.... not that I managed to get the phone working - is there perhaps a way of turning all this into a "clean slate" so that I can try this method again?).

I know the bluetooth is working too because this is the method that I used to get the orbiter_Treo.cab onto my phone (i.e. sending it from KDE desktop).

Don't know if this will help anybody: http://www.linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/Hauppauge_WinTV-NOVA-T-500
Will check out this page again tomorrow - it has been vandalised.

This is the main LinuxTV wiki page for keeping tabs on how progress towards a stable T500 driver is coming along...I'm afraid as you will see at the end of the article it is still not stable and you will experience usb disconnects and i2c errors still. As is noted on this page there are some basic hardware errors and problems with the current drivers and the dib_0700 used in the Card.

Our experience with this card still is its problematic and will give you stability problems...its a great pity as this card is in many other respects really very good.

Andrew

Point taken. I am going to order a couple of KWorld 399Us in just a moment as you have suggested. Thanks for all of your help.

You mentioned that you use symlinks to change the recording directory - I haven't had much success with this, as on my current setup they seem to dissapear after the core has been rebooted! Any idea why this might be?

I have the o2 xda orbit 2.

I tried with the standard Java virtual machine and I got an error message. (Unhandled Java error)
I then installed midlet manager which is a diffrent java virtual machine. When I run it in this VM I get JSR082.
Aparantly this is a bluetooth error that comes up when the VM dosn't support bluetooth. Aparantly pocketPC mobile phones are not good at supporting bluetooth.
One of my old mobile phones is an XdaIIi. I'll dust it off and have a go and see what that comes up with.
I have the original o2 XDA Orbit running Windows Mobile 6.

I have tried installing the "standard" orbiter via bluetooth following the onscreen instructions, and all appears to be well, until I run the orbiter program. This gives me a blank screen, and crashes the phone.

I have also tried the XScale Windows CE.NET orbiter as suggested by Techstyle, which gave me a lot more success in that it ran and I was able to see the initial log screen, but was unsure what to do next. Am I right in saying this will only work over wifi, and not bluetooth?

Unfortunately, the wifi on my phone is knackered, so I am limited to bluetooth - does anybody have any suggestions please?

Another question I had about this KW sticks....

Do you supply many systems with two or more of these sticks in the core, ie four or more tuners? And if so, do they work ok?

Regarding this thread http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=8000.0, I also wondered whether it is possible to change the directory (preferably to a secondary hard disk) that holds the recordings using VDR in 710?

We have started to supply systems with 1/2/3 KW Sticks installed internally. Under 0710 there is no automatic way to configure recording to another partition or drive but this can be done using a symlink to the second partition.

Andrew

I did try with the symlinks (with MythTV, not VDR), but they kept disappearing after reboots! Any idea why this might be? Also, Thom seems to be dead against symlinks (see aforementioned thread) - I take it you haven't seen any instability issues with this approach?

And thanks in advance for doing the wiki page, it is much appreciated.

Hello qkerby I have been doing some research on this since I wanted to buy a fire system myself. there are lots of good alternatives but if you want the fiire invisble the company that makes the hardware is Polywell. They do see all the hardware you might be looking for her is the link to the invisible.

http://www.polywell.com/us/oem/ThinSlimCX700M1.asp

They also sell the Fiire engine that I am buying form them this month myself. I plan on using EEE b202 for my first MD.

Cheers

nice find, i only wish it didnt retail for $899

That is a lot of money........ especially for something that overheats all the time. Might be ok if it was sat in the middle of a field, but the whole point of this thing is that it is meant to fit behind your screen (where it will get a bit warm).

I also understand that the VIA graphics are a pain.

You're seeing the same USB disconnect problem in 810, or new problems entirely?

Maybe I will take a look at those USB sticks you have recommended then. Are they relatively easy to set up? I am no programmer!

Thanks.

We see the same problems under 0810 for the T500's... mainly i2c errors.

The KW-DVB-T 399U needs the latest v4l-dvb drivers and after that is plug-n-play. I will try and get a wiki article uploaded that covers this ;-)

Andrew

Hi Andrew, as much as I hate to hassle you, did you manage to upload this wiki article? Apologies if you have already, I just can't find it!

Cheers.
