Users / Latest r8168 driver does not work with 8.10 final
« on: November 06, 2011, 10:10:46 pm »
I imagine this issue would affect those doing new installations using 8.10 final, who have an r8169 module to blacklist and an r8168 module to install.

The latest version of the r8168 on the Realtek website (version 8.026.00) does not work.

Furthermore, I have never had success with the versions mentioned on the wiki (8.008.00 and 8.012.00), but that said I cannot make install for toffee (later versions include an install script).

The golden version for me has always been 8.018.00

Hi all, great that HTTPS/SSL is now set up by default, but what is the correct way of adding a username and password?

Cheers,
Matt.

Users / Which VOIP provider in the UK works with LMCE?
« on: September 27, 2011, 01:05:15 pm »
You may have read my other post here http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php/topic,12011.0.html

This is my sob story.

I have always used Vonage with a crappy old DECT phone, never any complaints, apart from not being able to integrate it with LMCE. She loved it. Wanting to utilise the notifications features in LMCE, I changed to sipgate.co.uk and to a Siemens Gigaset C475 IP phone. Since this I have had nothing but problems. I have never been able to integrate it with LMCE; the absolute best I have been able to achieve is outgoing calls only. This is the one thing that SWMBO needs to have working, and it is the only real LMCE-related sore point in my home. I can't wait to tell her about the billing attacks, as mentioned in my other post.

Is there any VOIP provider in the UK that is known to work with LMCE without the problems I and others have seen with sipgate.co.uk?

Cheers,
Matt.

Users / Has my sigate UK account been hijacked because of LMCE?
« on: September 27, 2011, 10:29:47 am »
I recently discovered that all of my credit on my sipgate UK account has gone, and it is due to "service charges" by sipgate. Looking at an itemised bill (see attached) it would appear that a number of calls to foreign numbers have been made, none of which by me.

Firstly, does anybody know how this could have happened? And is it as a result of using LMCE with the phone line?

I wouldn't call the amount of money that has been lost "insignificant", so I am keen to get to the bottom of this.

Cheers,
Matt.

EDIT: The latest attacks were when the phone line in LMCE wasn't being used - the sipgate settings were on the phone itself and LMCE is just providing the networking. The previous set of attacks though could have been when the phone/phone line was set up within LMCE, I'm not sure.

Users / mythtv recordings - about half aren't working
« on: September 12, 2011, 10:47:21 pm »
For the last few days, I've noticed that about half of new myth recordings are shown as the dreaded "black square" in the myth recording playback menu, with the  "This file for this recording can not be found" error if you try to play them.

I've never seen this intermittent fault before, normally it either works or it doesn't. No problem with live TV that I can see. I have not done anything to the system in the last few weeks, this appears to be completely random. Any clues?

Cheers,
Matt.

Users / Nokia N800 orbiter reloads itself after selecting TV
« on: September 03, 2011, 02:28:36 pm »
When I select TV (doesn't seem to do it with any other button presses), my N800 orbiter craps out, as if it is reloading. Sometimes it won't crap out, but then it will usually do it later when selecting a channel.

I've been battling with this for a while now over various snapshots installs/upgrades, so it's nothing that I've done I don't think. None of my other orbiters (web orbiters and onscreen orbiters) have this problem.

Any clues as to what may be causing these issues? I've tried reloading/regenning/rebooting, removing and reinstalling, and as I said this is over various installs as well, so I have no idea what to try next.

Cheers,
Matt.

EDIT: It is now officially unusable, it does it every single time. Once it reloads (TV still on), I press the "now playing" scenario on the home page, and it flakes out again.

I have noticed that sometimes there is general/useful information that is applicable everywhere, but written on a specific hardware page. For example http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/D-Link_DNS-323_How_To_Install_On_LMCE-810

Here you will see that there is information relating specifically to that NAS http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/D-Link_DNS-323_How_To_Install_On_LMCE-810#Preparing_the_DNS-323, which is good, but then it goes on with really useful instructions http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/D-Link_DNS-323_How_To_Install_On_LMCE-810#DNS-323_Installation that are applicable to all NAS drives, information which might not be found.

Has anybody else noticed this? Would you say this applied to a lot of pages?

Cheers,
Matt.

Users / Basic NAS questions - what's the correct installation method?
« on: August 01, 2011, 10:40:07 am »
Hi all, have bought my first NAS (a Netgear Stora), and after some help from Thom getting it recognised initially, I have some basic questions about the best way to set it up; the wiki doesn't seem to answer many questions for the NAS noob, so I would like to change that, and add some info for my NAS specifically also.

The goal is to have a NAS that uses the LMCE file structure, and automatically store myth recordings (as well as being the main storage for all my media).

1. After plugging the NAS in, 3 things are detected; MyComputers, FamilyLibrary, MyLibrary, all as children of "STORA". Some are detected as file servers (one of them I think), some are detected as window shares (two of them I think). Is it important which one is chosen, or do all three need to be present? My understanding is that FamilyLibrary is the "general use" one.

2. When adding two (or all three? Damn you memory!) of these NAS items, a username and password needs to be set - can this be anything, or does it need to match the Kubuntu password or the LMCE password? Think it said samba password, so I assume these are to do with the window shares?

3. Once added, does anything need to be done manually to set up permissions? I read a few posts about people have to change permissions before PVR recordings could take place - is this normal? And if this does have to be done, is there a correct way of doing it that minimises the risk of breaking things?

Cheers,
Matt.

Users / Cannot delete or edit scenario images
« on: July 18, 2011, 03:26:34 pm »
I recently added an image to my videos scenario button, but cannot for the life of me work out how to replace it or edit it. It appears that I can upload a new one (web admin shows it), but after reloading/regen-ing it, the image just doesn't update in the orbiters. To be honest I would be happier deleting it, but can't see how to do this either.

I considered deleting the scenario and making a new one, but wasn't sure of the implications of deleting an autogenerated scenario (and subsequently having to replace it).

Cheers,
Matt.

Users / Are you unable to create web orbiters on the later snapshots?
« on: July 17, 2011, 11:52:55 pm »
Create an empty folder in "/usr/pluto/orbiter" called "bits"...

Code: [Select]
sudo mkdir /usr/pluto/orbiter/bits
...and then create your orbiters in the normal way http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Web_Orbiter_2.0 (thanks Thom).

I understand a fix is being prepared, but just thought I'd mention this workaround in case you can't wait.

Cheers,
Matt.

EDIT: This was also mentioned here http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=11825.0

When I first installed (snapshot 24098), there were some asterisk issues i.e. it didn't install. I have however since done that manually (I installed asterisk, pluto-asterisk and asterisk-pluto), and now I can at least access "phone lines" in webadmin.

I've put in my credentials, but under status there is just a "," (a comma). In the past I have managed to get the line registered (although it must be said I have never actually got the phone working under LMCE.... but thought getting the line registered would be a good start).

Any pointers much appreciated as always!

Cheers,
Matt.

Users / HTTPS/SSL - what's considered a "hack" and what isn't?
« on: June 15, 2011, 12:10:23 pm »
Discussed this briefly with merkur2k, bongowongo and golgoj4 (I believe?) on IRC, but I wasn't quite sure what the conclusion was, so wanted to open the discussion up on the forums.

I am experiencing this problem http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=11719.0, but we discovered it's because I stupidly chattr +i'ed /etc/apache2/sites-available/pluto. The reason I did this was because I was losing my HTTPS settings whenever the core was rebooted.

My question: Referring to this page http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/HTTPS, what's fine to do, and what's not recommended? Obviously the chattr command was a silly thing to do (and I have removed this instruction from the wiki page), but I just wondered if there was anything else I should avoid doing? I'm going to restore my system to a previous (working) image, and want to know if I'm doing things right with regards to HTTPS setup.

Alternatively, is there another method of accessing my web orbiters externally in a secure manner?

Cheers,
Matt.

Any cause for alarm? Happens whenever I update/upgrade the core.

Code: [Select]
Errors were encountered while processing:
 pluto-website-admin
 pluto-dcerouter
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

Cheers,
Matt.
