Users / Wizard -> Email setup - cannot make it work
« on: July 05, 2015, 02:38:12 pm »
Hi all, hope you're all well.

I am looking at setting up an email account with Gmail on LinuxMCE, but not having much luck in that I don't receive the test email. I have attached my settings. I have tried manual setup as well. As you can see the "Response:" from sending a test message is blank.

From the wiki this looks straightforward, and is known to be working in 1004 (I will get round to upgrading at some point...). Any pointers would be much appreciated!

Cheers,
Matt.

Users / Shellshock vulnerability - do we need to do anything?
« on: October 01, 2014, 10:08:51 am »
Not wanting to start a panic or anything, but thought I should ask the question seeing as we are all using Linux and not only that, using it as a gateway/router.

I had an email come round at work warning us of this potential weakness. It was recommended we run the following command...
Quote
env X="() { :;} ; echo vulnerable" /bin/sh -c "echo this is a test

...to see if we are vulnerable. If I am to believe this test, then apparently I am.

What can we do, if anything?

Cheers,
Matt.

Users / Volume issue with LG TV template
« on: September 16, 2014, 09:30:13 am »
Hello all,

I recently had to re-add my LG TV as it mysteriously stopped working. It works fine for the most part, although the TV volume doesn't work when switching over to a different input - a quick reload fixes this. This is a known issue.

However the behaviour I'm now seeing is that following a reload, you touch the volume controls (up or down), and bam the TV volume goes straight up to 99! Which in case you are wondering, is very, very loud :-)

Cheers,
Matt.

Users / Orbiter on 2nd o2 Joggler won't start
« on: December 17, 2013, 09:18:47 pm »
Got orbiter working on my second Joggler for a brief period of time after a number of attempts (wiping each time), but when I unplugged it to move it, it wouldn't work again. Have tried several times again since. Am finding this difficult to troubleshoot given that it has worked briefly.

In web admin I incremented the Listen Port on the new orbiter, so the new one is 3452 - does this need to be reflected anywhere else?

I've tried using just an Ethernet cable, no wireless.

Have tried on a spare joggler.

Manually running startOrbiter.sh on the joggler gives the following if that gives any clues
Code: [Select]
/usr/pluto/bin/Orbiter: error while loading shared libraries: libDCECommon.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Cheers,
Matt.

Sorry to hijack the thread (hopefully cperk4's question has been answered), but how does this compare (security-wise) to connecting to your core using "https://<external_IP>" in a web browser and typing in your LMCE admin password?

How does it compare to ssh-ing in with your kubuntu password?

From the wiki page this VPN stuff looks really easy to do, but don't really understand where it fits in with the above, or what the advantages of using it are.

Matt.

Users / Composite camera as "Generic Analogue Camera"
« on: November 23, 2013, 12:58:31 pm »
Have tried setting up my analogue camera (connected via a Hauppauge PVR-150 in the core), but I'm only getting a grey screen with the message "UNABLE TO OPEN VIDEO DEVICE" when viewed in the orbiter.

I can view the camera using mplayer on the command line. I've tried it both with and without motion wrapper.

Any suggestions?

Cheers,
Matt.

Users / Issue with O2 Joggler to LMCE Orbiter transformation
« on: November 08, 2013, 03:08:30 pm »
I followed these instructions http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Joggler

And all seemed to go well, no problems that I could see at any stage. However when I fire up the orbiter, I only get a blank screen with the classic "X" cursor (I am able to move it about through touching the screen). I've attempted this a few times, and on different installs.

Has anybody else seen this before?

Cheers,
Matt.

Users / Suspend issue with mini-ITX ASUS AT3N7A-I following upgrade
« on: September 02, 2013, 09:32:48 am »
Haven't reported this yet as it so random, I've been trying to work out what's going on.

Following a recent upgrade, this MD suspends fine, but doesn't wake up.... 95% of the time. Sometimes, it does, eventually. One time, and I mean literally once, it started instantly as normal, and this is with me testing it a couple of times a day for the last few weeks. On the occasions where it has eventually woken up after a long time (maybe hours), I have tried to work out if a specific event was allowing it to happen (a quick reload, orbiter rebuild), but there's just no pattern that I can see whatsoever.

The fan always spins up and it all looks good, but nothing appears on the screen. I cannot ssh into it.

If anybody has any suggestions I would very much appreciate it.

Cheers,
Matt.

I am currently trying to get orbiter working on my jogger so created an "orbiter" for that. Not suggesting that's what is causing the issue necessarily, but that was when I noticed it.

Matt.

Users / Following upgrade, media on MD starts at maximum volume
« on: August 20, 2013, 11:04:39 am »
...until you press either up or down, and then it immediately jumps back to the standard nominal level. Very strange, and gave us all quite a fright! I ran alsamixer and the master volume would be on say 60. Play media, it immediately goes to 100. Press either up or down, and it will then immediately jump back to 62 or 58 or whatever.

I tried re-running the AV wizard, which was interesting because that started off on maximum volume as well... until I changed the level, and again it jumped back down to a much lower volume. It didn't fix the problem.

Haven't tried anything else. Has anybody else seen this?

Cheers,
Matt.

Users / Errors at end of doing a dist-upgrade on MD
« on: August 19, 2013, 02:17:30 pm »
I did a dist-upgrade on my core which went fine it would seem (didn't take very long).

Then did it on an MD, which took a good few hours, but it ended with the errors below.

You have new mail in /var/mail/root

Looks nasty to my untrained eye, is it anything I need to be worried about?

The "ERROR 1044 (42000) at line 1: Access denied for user 'root'@'192.168.80.4' to database 'pluto_main'" part looked relevant to me, is that something to do with access to mysql?

Users / Enabling subtitles for MKV
« on: May 29, 2013, 12:22:22 am »
I know this isn't in the spirit of things. It is a fudge.

If you have any MKV movies with subtitles tracks that don't show when playing under LMCE, there is a way to extract the subtitles track as a separate .srt file, meaning they should then appear.

0. Install "mkvtoolnix" if you don't already have it.

1. Probe the file for the track information...
Code: [Select]
mkvmerge -i SomeMovie.mkv
Example output:
Code: [Select]
Track ID 1: video (V_MPEG4/ISO/AVC)
Track ID 2: audio (A_DTS)
Track ID 3: subtitles (S_TEXT/UTF8)
Track ID 4: subtitles (S_TEXT/UTF8)
Chapters: 74 entries

2. Verify which subtitle track you want to convert (I do this using VLC on another computer, maybe there is a way to do it on command line). Let's say we want the subtitles on Track ID 3

3. Run...
Code: [Select]
mkvextract tracks SomeMovie.mkv 3:SomeMovie.srt

Users / Play radio at a certain time (radio alarm)
« on: May 27, 2013, 08:32:13 pm »
I have achieved this in "Timed Events" using Xine Player with the "Play Media" command. I've put the radio stream URL into "#59 MediaURL (Special)", and it works, but the radio stream does not appear on the orbiter in the Now Playing square, meaning I cannot turn it off or change the volume.

Does anybody have any suggestions please?

(I do have various radio stations set up under the radio scenario, is it possible to simply play one of these?)

Cheers,
Matt.

Users / Z-wave plugin module - security light issue
« on: May 06, 2013, 11:38:55 pm »
I have a motion security light which plugs in to a standard wall socket, to which I have now added a z-wave plugin module.

However the light doesn't turn off! Is LMCE and/or the Z-wave controller doing something to the plug-in module that prevents the light from turning off?

Cheers,
Matt.

Users / My latest (and greatest so far) gyro mouse / keyboard
« on: April 02, 2013, 01:45:38 am »
Just thought I'd share my experiences with a gyro mouse/keyboard that I recently purchased in case anybody else wanted to take a look http://www.amazon.co.uk/2-4GHz-Sensing-Wireless-Keyboard-Android/dp/B008S73V8A

It's great! The keys are nice and "clicky", and don't leave you with that "have I pressed it, or haven't I" feeling. The gyro mouse part works well also - compared to the GO Plus Gyration Air Mouse, which I think is ridiculously expensive for what it is, it is almost as good (in terms of cursor movement). When you press the button to stop the cursor from moving there is a _slight_ delay, but to be honest I don't use that button now that I am used to it.

Negatives - some might consider the piano black finish to be a bit cheap, but personally I don't mind (speaks volumes about me!) - it does come in white though. Shift needs to be held down for the function keys. And it isn't rechargeable, the x3 AAA batteries need to be physically replaced. That said I've been using it continuously for a month and haven't had to replace the batteries yet, so it must be fairly good on juice.

Bottom line is that I am going to buy another.

Cheers,
Matt.
