Thanks a lot for your quick answer... I checked everything you mentiones and yes the CM11A shows under interfaces, it is controlled by the Core on Com Port /dev/ttyS0 which if I understood correctly is Com port 1. I go to advanced and it does say it is registered. Could the device be registered but not be seen by the system? Do you know of a way to verify that the com port is the correct one? like I said there is only one serial interface and I just assumed it was com1 but did not know how to confirm this in Linux.

I think I am going to test by changing com ports just to see if going up to com3 or 4 makes any difference.

Thanks again

Hey guys I am trying my first attempt at X10 and I don't think I can go any simpler for this test.
I have a fresh 32 bit install from the DVD. The devices involved are a Radio Shack 61-3002 Lamp Module and an RCA HC60RX PC interface.
Let me start by saying I am new to Linux and I am also new to X10. I'll be doing some Z-Wave next weekend but I don't want to just let my X10 devices collect dust.

What  am trying to do is setup a basic scenario where I can turn On/Off a lamp from my linuxmce. I followed instructions on the wiki http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/X10 (very well written I must say).
I installed the HC60RX as a CM11A as the store I bought it from claims it is identical just dofferent brand (this could be my issue). I followed the instructions religiously up to Configuring the CM11A. I followed that part as well and selected Com1 ( my PC only has 1 serial port. I am assuming it is com1 but not knowing Linux I am not sure how to verify.

Next I did this:
From the LinuxMCE Admin Website Select Device->Lights
Then select "Add Device" which will open a new window.
Select Radio Shack in "Manufacturer" and "Lighting Device <Environment" in "Device Category"
Then select Apply Filter Button
Now select "Light Switch (on/off)" in "Device Template" menu and click on "Pick device Template"
A new Window appears with the default device data, now make the appropriate changes
Put in "Port / Channel Number address (A2)" X10 module
Select its room location before save.

I then added an On/Off button on my orbiter by going to Devices, Scenarios and adding a scenario for that device on that specified room (only room is use right now) on the admin site.

I still can't get this to work... When I click on the on/off button nothing happends. Also after adding adding the devices, there was a test button which I clicked on to try it and nothing happened either. Being so new to thins I am not sure what to look for to troubleshoot this.

Any suggestions?

Users / x10 floodcam alternative

Does anyone know if there is someting similar to the x10 floodcam available for z-wave?

http://www.x10.com/products/x10_vt38a.htm

I have done some searching but haven't found anything. I have read many not so possitive reviews on the floodcam and even though I do love the concept of it I would rather stay away from x10.
I understand that this can be done by some stand alone devices but was wondering if there is something already available as an individual item.

Ok, guys I appreciate all the replies. I went ahead and ordered the MCV dongle for $65. It was about $20 more than the Intermatic HA23C but since te HA23C requires a master controller which is around $20 for a cheap one, the expense is more or less the same. I also bought a mtin sensor to get me started. I will bould from there with some in wall outlets.
I am pretty excited about finally getting started with other features of the system other than media which is all I have used until know.
I will report back on my experience.

Thanks again

Hi guys
First of all I do have an installation of LinuxMCE 7.10 and have only used the media part of it. I do want to start with Zwave and following a post I have seen earlier today I went to a link with what I think is good pricing.
I added some things to my cart but before ordering I wanted to make sure of what it needed to get started. I have looked in the Wiki but I honestly could not find the answer... I probably overlooked it.
Here is what I was thinking of ordering as I just want to get my TV room setup for right now:

4-Intermatic HA01C - Z-Wave In-Wall Receptacle
2-Intermatic HA20C - Z-Wave 600W 3-Way/Single-Pole Dimmer - Toggle Style
1-Intermatic HA23C - Z-Wave USB Stick/Software

I think I have red somewhere that for the initial install I would also need a controller to program everything but I can't fins that post and I can't remember if that was just for x-10 or if it applies to zwave as well.
Also, one of the lamps in the room has a fan as well so I didn't know if this would work... all I really want is to dimm, and turn off/on the lights (there is only one light switch for this lamp... no 3 way).

I live in the US by the way

The website I was checking out is www.asihome.com

I appreciate any input.... Thanks guys

Count me in... I know I will use it and I will feel bad if I don't contribute. You guys already do enough for free so this is the least we can do to help.

Thank you very much... your videos are VERY helpful. I think I have watched ALL of them several times and definitely help us understand the functionality of the system.

Keep up the good work.

I am having a similar issue but in my case it is with AVI files. Some of them are recognized but when I try to play them nothing happens. And as far as FLAC, I don't think I can even play them. LMCE won't even see them.
I was wondering if you ever got your problem resolved and what the solution might have been.

Would this be a codecs issue? I am a newbie when it comes to Linux but I am not afraid to fool with it. I have been searching on how to download and install new codecs for Xine and found a couple of articles on how to do this with Ubuntu. I just didn't want to waste my time if nobody thinks this could possibly be the issue.

Looking forward to a reply, in the meantime I will keep searching the forums for an answer.

Thanks

Users / Re: Resolution Settings
« on: January 15, 2009, 10:52:03 pm »
you are right itsmeok... Looks like I can change them from there.
I have read the Wiki on the AV pages saw something about pressing 1-5 to change video output on the video card and 6-0 to change resolution, I think it said something about holding the key for 15 seconds? not sure though I could not make it work... Do I need to be on a specific screen for that? are there really keyboard shortcuts to change resolutions?

Is there a place to look at what the current settings are? I have looked around but other than going to the advanced tab and advanced tab and to video resolution and audio setup which doesn't really tell me what my settings are, it just restarts and brings up the av wizard for me to choose new settings.

To answer your second question, I am using the VGA port on the motherboard. I have not added any video cards to the box. The motherboard has a VGA and a DVI ports and I am using VGA. It has been tested on my TV so I know that is the output being used, not the DVI.

Thanks

Ok, sorry about leaving information out... I wasn't sure what was needed.
Here is waht I found on my card ( I looked it up from my windows particion)
GEForce 7100 NVidia nforce 6800
Firmware 163.95
Driver version 7.15.11.6395
I looked under Windows and the 640x480 is not available so I am not sure if it would under Linux (very new to Linux so be patient with me)

I also looked at the AV pages in the Wiki and read this:

If you hear the beeps but still don't see a picture, it's possible that the display you're using cannot handle 640x480. Press the number 6-9, or 0, as shown below, to select your resolution. Again, 15 seconds later, you should hear the beeps when the A/V Wizard is restarted. If you again need to choose a connector (other than the default VGA), press the 1-5 key (as above) and wait until you hear the beeps again. Repeat as often as needed.

Keys for choosing a resolution:

6: 640x480
7: 1024x768
8: 720p
9: 1080i
0: 1080p

so I am pressing the number 6 key for 15 seconds but nothing happens ( did I understand this correctly? to change resolutions I just press 6-0 for 15 seconds and the resolution will change according to the button pressed? no other key sequence to press along with the number key? )

Sorry if this is deviating from the original question a little, I wanted to make sure I was doing that correctly.

Thanks

Hi everyone. This is probably a stupid question but I guess I need some help with it.
I have an old telex P170v projector wich works great to watch movies using a portable dvd player, however I would like to be able to use linuxmce with it if possible. I plugged my box into it and got nothing, the projector won't even recognize it. I looked at the specs for the projector http://www.aboutprojectors.com/Telex-P170V-projector.html and apparently the native resolution is 640x480 so I changed the settings on my pc from 1080 to 640x480 and chose the lightweight background just in case but O still don't get anything.
Anything I might be missing? I am leaving the refresh rate at the default value og 60hz

Thanks in advance.
