Users / Cisco 7960 Help
« on: April 17, 2009, 09:21:52 pm »
I decided to have a second attempt at installing my Cisco 7960 with Linuxmce. I tried this in November with no success, I gave up and now I am going to try again. Unfortunately it is failing again.
I loaded a SIP image to the phone per some recommendation I got on the forum last time. I followed the steps on the WIKI for the Cisco 7970 with the few exceptions for 7960. The part for the MAC address range I skept becasue those fields were already filled when I picked the device template for the 7960.
I have a 7.10 32 bit installation. I have not done anything on the telecom portion of LinuxMCE so this is the very first phone to be installed.
I plugged the phone and it went through the normal steps of booting:
Configuring VLAN
Configuring IP
Requesting Configuration
Phone unprovisioned

If I look at the log on the phone itself this is what I see:

Status Messages
W350 unprovisioned proxy-backup
W351 unprovisioned proxy-emergency
W362 No valid Line Names provisioned
W210 TFTP Error: Not found SIPDefault.cnf
W220 TFTP Error: Not found SIP000DBC261A3A.cnf

Firmware Version
Application Load ID  P0S3-08-9-00
Boot Load ID PC030301
DSP Load ID 4.0(2.0)[A0]

The phone gets an IP and information for router, tftp, and so on but it seems like it is looking for 2 files on the tftp server and not finding them. Is the system supposed to create those files for me or do I need to create them and save them in the tftp directory? Reading on the forums and documentation I've found I am not supposed to do that but I am beggining to wonder.

Any thoughts?

Users / First attempt at X10
« on: April 14, 2009, 06:10:20 pm »
Hey guys I am trying my first attempt at X10 and I don't think I can go any simpler for this test.
I have a fresh 32 bit install from the DVD. The devices involved are a Radio Shack 61-3002 Lamp Module and an RCA HC60RX PC interface.
Let me start by saying I am new to Linux and I am also new to X10. I'll be doing some Z-Wave next weekend but I don't want to just let my X10 devices collect dust.

What  am trying to do is setup a basic scenario where I can turn On/Off a lamp from my linuxmce. I followed instructions on the wiki http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/X10 (very well written I must say).
I installed the HC60RX as a CM11A as the store I bought it from claims it is identical just dofferent brand (this could be my issue). I followed the instructions religiously up to Configuring the CM11A. I followed that part as well and selected Com1 ( my PC only has 1 serial port. I am assuming it is com1 but not knowing Linux I am not sure how to verify.

Next I did this:
From the LinuxMCE Admin Website Select Device->Lights
Then select "Add Device" which will open a new window.
Select Radio Shack in "Manufacturer" and "Lighting Device <Environment" in "Device Category"
Then select Apply Filter Button
Now select "Light Switch (on/off)" in "Device Template" menu and click on "Pick device Template"
A new Window appears with the default device data, now make the appropriate changes
Put in "Port / Channel Number address (A2)" X10 module
Select its room location before save.

I then added an On/Off button on my orbiter by going to Devices, Scenarios and adding a scenario for that device on that specified room (only room is use right now) on the admin site.

I still can't get this to work... When I click on the on/off button nothing happends. Also after adding adding the devices, there was a test button which I clicked on to try it and nothing happened either. Being so new to thins I am not sure what to look for to troubleshoot this.

Any suggestions?

Users / x10 floodcam alternative
« on: April 11, 2009, 04:28:48 am »
Does anyone know if there is someting similar to the x10 floodcam available for z-wave?

http://www.x10.com/products/x10_vt38a.htm

I have done some searching but haven't found anything. I have read many not so possitive reviews on the floodcam and even though I do love the concept of it I would rather stay away from x10.
I understand that this can be done by some stand alone devices but was wondering if there is something already available as an individual item.

Users / Getting started on Zwave
« on: April 10, 2009, 06:04:32 pm »
Hi guys
First of all I do have an installation of LinuxMCE 7.10 and have only used the media part of it. I do want to start with Zwave and following a post I have seen earlier today I went to a link with what I think is good pricing.
I added some things to my cart but before ordering I wanted to make sure of what it needed to get started. I have looked in the Wiki but I honestly could not find the answer... I probably overlooked it.
Here is what I was thinking of ordering as I just want to get my TV room setup for right now:

4-Intermatic HA01C - Z-Wave In-Wall Receptacle
2-Intermatic HA20C - Z-Wave 600W 3-Way/Single-Pole Dimmer - Toggle Style
1-Intermatic HA23C - Z-Wave USB Stick/Software

I think I have red somewhere that for the initial install I would also need a controller to program everything but I can't fins that post and I can't remember if that was just for x-10 or if it applies to zwave as well.
Also, one of the lamps in the room has a fan as well so I didn't know if this would work... all I really want is to dimm, and turn off/on the lights (there is only one light switch for this lamp... no 3 way).

I live in the US by the way

The website I was checking out is www.asihome.com

I appreciate any input.... Thanks guys

Users / Resolution Settings
« on: January 15, 2009, 05:29:28 pm »
Is there a place to look at what the current settings are? I have looked around but other than going to the advanced tab and advanced tab and to video resolution and audio setup which doesn't really tell me what my settings are, it just restarts and brings up the av wizard for me to choose new settings.

Users / Telex projector
« on: January 13, 2009, 04:07:36 am »
Hi everyone. This is probably a stupid question but I guess I need some help with it.
I have an old telex P170v projector wich works great to watch movies using a portable dvd player, however I would like to be able to use linuxmce with it if possible. I plugged my box into it and got nothing, the projector won't even recognize it. I looked at the specs for the projector http://www.aboutprojectors.com/Telex-P170V-projector.html and apparently the native resolution is 640x480 so I changed the settings on my pc from 1080 to 640x480 and chose the lightweight background just in case but O still don't get anything.
Anything I might be missing? I am leaving the refresh rate at the default value og 60hz

Thanks in advance.

Users / Gyration GYR4101US Air Music Remote
« on: December 15, 2008, 06:50:56 pm »
Has anyone been able to successfully use this remote? I am looking into purchasing one and was trying to decide between GYR4101US Air Music Remote and the GYR3101US which I have seen in the Wiki but I wanted to make sure that it would be fully functional before I jump in.

Any experiences with any of these remotes?

Thanks

Users / Cisco 7960G IP phone issues registering
« on: August 26, 2008, 03:29:14 am »
OK, I am about to give up on this phone... After much struggle, I managed to load a SIP image with some advice I ot on the chat room. I installed V8.9, during the firmware upgrade I loaded a SIPDefault.cnf I copied on a site. When plugging the phone up to my linuxmce box the phone would display a message saying no load or incorrect load (sorry I forgot the exact wording) I looked at the log on the phone and realized it was looking for the SIPmacaddress.cnf file from TFTP and I didn't have one. I created one under /tftpboot. I thought this was strange that I had to create my own file but I went ahead and did it.Now the phone looks as if it's registered and working but it isn't; it is loading the SIPDefault I created during the upgrade not the one on /tftpboot. The phone does have dial tone but I can't dial anything since it really isn't regisstered to the system.
Any ideas? I thought about deleting that file from the phone and let it reload it during boot from tftp but I am not sure how and haven't found and answer on google.

Users / Media catalogging
« on: July 14, 2008, 11:36:43 pm »
Is there any good documents on Media Tagging? I am also a little frustrated if I can't find something on amazon.com and I do have cover art of my own and can't use it 'cuz I don't know how. Also I am yet to find out how to categorize by type. For instance, I saved some music videos in the Audio folder using file sharing, the videos automatically show under movies but I would like to go a little further and assign them to the music video category.
Any ideas anyone?
