Installation issues / Re: newbie wireless help
« on: June 01, 2010, 05:16:42 am »
I'm a newbie as well so that might explain why I didn't entirely understand. Anyways as I've understood works best, and as I've done, you should have something like this:
Internet - (external) Core (internal) - Network
Your wireless Acess Point can be connected anywhere on the internal network (like bongowongo says) and you need to assign it to the internal DHCP.

Hmmm well then TD is most likely a newer card (might not be PnP anymore then!). Dual input is strange, they should just have used a splitter. About HD ready, it wouldn't surprise me if it's only the Windows software that is shipped with it. As in any of those cards should be HD capable. Note though that these are just my thoughts, not facts :P Hopefully someone with more knowledge will come along and help out ^^

T-500 and HVR-4000 should both be PnP
The HVR-4400 you might need to supply Mandingo the stuff he needs (if he's still available that is).

I don't understand what the 4000HD is considering the 4000 does HD. Maybe it's the software that comes with it. Nice to see that there's a PCIe version though!

I concur. I remember once changing CD/DVD drive for it to work.

Users / Re: which card(s) for multiple satellite receivers

I'm not an expert in either of the fields but, assuming you only want the Free-To-Air channels, wouldn't 2 Quattro LNB's and a multi-switch remove the requirement of a double tuner?

Are you still thinking about having the Wii centralized somewhere? If so, can you explain how what your idea is for the controllers and the infrared bar sensor? I'm quite curious for eyeing future possibilites in my home =)

I understand though that the video feed can be attached to a matrix output so there is no need of any capture card and its added latency.

however I was commenting on removing the tuner from the core
sorry wasn't targeting you :p meant in general

Having all your MDs centralized works and is neat but I like having them in the rooms so that they can be used to boot Windows as well. Also you can attach a CD/DVD drive and just pop things in to play. Not that I have this but I can also assume that follow me works well so you can have the bluetooth dongles on each one of them.

Users / Re: Is there any Smoke alarm z-wave ? Or other solution as gc100 ?
« on: December 30, 2009, 04:25:22 pm »
Price is not that bad. USD 100,- each for a smoke detector, wireless with battery and tamper alarm.. (Tamper alarm might be nice if you are renting out parts of your house)
Yeah I didn't mean they were overpriced but that it's quite a difference going from a normal smoke detector that costs 3 bucks, especially in case one needs several of them. In any case, if there's anything you want to spend money on it's protecting your wooden house from fire.

Nice, I would be very interested in the Z-wave detectors although the price :x I would need to start saving. How well does the Z-wave frequency work through concrete walls?

Installation issues / Re: LinuxMCE constantly scanning network share.
« on: December 26, 2009, 05:49:59 pm »
I recently got my first real LMCE install and was wondering why the HDDs were always on, so that explains it  :) I'm no dev but if possible one other idea would also to have a button, eg. in Manage Drives, to start scanning. Although as you say it's definitely not a priority.

Installation issues / Re: Setting up Core – MDs.

I have no idea if this is stated on the DVD or if it has anything to do with your problem but, in the wiki it says that on the DVD the initial MD image is not installed so you have to do it manually by running:
Code: [Select]
/usr/pluto/bin/Diskless_CreateTBZ.shhttp://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/LinuxMCE-0810_beta
Again I might be completely off-track but the page is new so I thought I'd mention it.

Not that I know anything about the systems intercome, it seems you forgot a "can't" somewhere in your first post?

I was afraid so. For the time being I might have to put this idea to the side as they're not exactly cheap ^^

Thanks for the reply
