Users / Re: Z-wave Smoke Detector repeater?
« on: September 06, 2011, 04:48:26 pm »
I got a similar info from the site I was looking at. I guess it kind of makes sense. The battery drain would be immense if they were always on. Now to find the cheapest wired device (that would have a use for me) and see if I can afford this.

Thanks for all the help.

Do you have any idea if the SF812 works a repeater? I would like to believe the sentence in the manual (quoted in first post) says so but I want to be certain before I make the order.

Thanks, I thought that's how it was as well. However I then read this on the Z-wave wikipedia page: "Therefore, most battery-operated devices are not designed as repeater units". So I want to make sure this unit does repeat otherwise they'd be useless to me :o

Users / Z-wave Smoke Detector repeater?

I'm considering in finally laying down a bit of money on z-wave smoke detectors. We have a fairly large house where we rent a few apartment and studios so it seems pretty wise to get some connected to the system. However, the floors are made out of concrete so there's most likely no way for the controller to get past more than 1 floor.

The question I'm wondering is if the unit (SF812) also functions as a repeater? (below is part of the text from the manual)

Quote
From The photoelectric Smoke Detector is a Z-WaveTM enabled device which is fully compatible with any Z-WaveTM enabled network. Z-WaveTM enabled devices displaying the Z-WaveTM logo can also be used with it regardless of the manufacturer, and ours can also be used in other manufacturer’s Z-WaveTM enabled networks. Inclusion of this detector on other manufacturer’s Wireless Controller menu allows remote operation of connected modules when the detector is triggered. Z-Wave node in the system also acts as a repeater, so as to re-transmit the RF signal to ensure that the signal is received by its intended destination by routing the signal around obstacles and radio dead spots.
From: ftp.zwaveeurope.com/pub/man/en/EVR/EVR_SF812_in_en.pdf
It only says "Z-Wave node" so I can't say I'm certain if they mean nodes in general or this product.

Oh I read a bit hasty. Didn't see the "(A500)" in your post sorry. I saw you talk about scaling and things like that so I automatically assumed you meant the resolution problem on the Flytouch2.

A few Google searches reveal the Flytouch 2 should be on 2.x. So there's a chance the problem comes from the unsupported resolution, I think?

I unfortunately can't remember if changing resolution in the orbiter or the device tree changes anything. My mobile phone has a resolution of 800x480 and under Orbiter I have no size selected (it says "-Please Select-") and under the device tree in the child device I have it set at 800 (width)x600 (height) - most likely default. I don't remember changing those so I guess the phone stretches appropriately or something as my image is perfect. I'm afraid it doesn't help you all that much but it's the best information I can give at least. Play around with it I guess.

Also make sure that, under the orbiter page, the proper UI is selected. I've got the default running there, again, which is "Normal Horizonatal (3:4)". Don't ask me why that works, I don't know :P I haven't played that much with the skins when it comes to Android. I've only played around with it on the JavaMO where things are just as confusing ^^ But it works for me so I'm not complaining.

Ohhh I think I get what went wrong. I think we misunderstood where you are inputting all these things. Reading back the whole thread I think I was careless and not taking into account everything you wrote.

Alright so ignore your static IP settings - change it back to default so that it assigns the device an IP address automatically. (that's where I misunderstood you). Now, where you want to put 192.168.80.1 and 3641 is inside the LMCE application.

So once you launch the application press the Android menu button. You will see "Settings" and "Refresh Image". Press Settings.
For "LMCE Server" put: 192.168.80.1
For "LMCE Port" put: 3641
I'd also recommend changing the "Screen Orientation" to Lock Landscape.

You need to have made a Generic Proxy Orbiter. If you don't know how then follow the "Setup" here:
http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Web_Orbiter_2.0
It's been a while since I played with the Android orbiter configuration but if I memory serves right then you can skip the steps about skin and resolution as default should work fine. So I recommend skipping them until you get the app working and if things don't look right then go back and play around with them.

As you can see the Setup mentions the listening port and it's that which you're after.
More precisely you can find it here: Show device tree -> Core -> Generic Web Device -> Generic Proxy Orbiter

It's the Core IP so: 192.168.80.1
Also download the APK from here http://svn.linuxmce.org/trac.cgi/browser/people/darrenmason/AndroidTouchOrbiter/bin/AndroidTouchOrbiter.apk
The one that was on the wiki was out of date (I've updated it now).

Seems to be an issue of not being able to read the DVD (either a bad burner, bad DVD or bad reader). Did you verify the disc after burning? If you choose to burn another disc make sure to choose the slowest speed as you'll be less likely to encounter any burning error.

Awesome, great work. Soon time to buy a USB gamepad it seems =) Btw: do these require us to get a BIOS for each console? I've only played around with PCSX2 which has that requirement due to legalities.

I used an Logitech Sphere and upon movement it made pictures.
I actually used the Quickcam Sphere wiki to install because the Quickcam Pro 4000 is also a PWC camera. Either I configured something wrong or it doesn't work as a sensor so I'm grateful if you can check it out.

Users / Security and Motion Wrapper
« on: June 17, 2011, 09:02:18 pm »
I'm quite lost when it comes to security as to what can be done or should happen. I'm trying to play around with it but I'm not getting any success. I have a functional SPA3000 that does outside calls and USB camera connected with Motion Wrapper which gets an image no problem as well as the rectangular boxes showing movement. As I understand this should be enough for the system to detect movement and give me a phone call (correct me if I'm wrong) or make some kind of announcement on the MD's. I've tried to do this with no luck. I've even tried Monitor Mode.

To start off here are a few questions for Security -> Active sensors (where my camera is listed):
1. Is "Snap Picture" what stores pictures and video on /home/cameras/camera_id/..?
2. If not: is the camera always supposed to take a picture and a video (latter during movement detection) and what does Snap Picture do then?
If yes: how come it still takes videos when I've set it to Do Nothing?
3. Is "Announcement" for outputting sound/video to the MDs during a breach?
4. Is "Security" calling internal and external phones?
5. If I'm correct on some of these, is there some way to for example have all three on? (that images are taken, an intruder is scared away and I get notified)
6. Again if I'm correct, do these need any type of configurations or are there eg. pre-recorded messages? The only configuration I find is in Security -> Settings by Alert Type which is mostly about timings.
7. What is "Pool Alerts"?

Now it might be that I have misconfigured something that makes all of this not work but I do get a feed from the camera and, like I said, video is being recorded. I've therefore attached a picture with Security Video-Links, Reaction to Sensors and Cellphone Notifications in case something looks wrong.
Do note:
I've tried my outside number both with and without a 9 (I need to press 9 to call outside)
I've tried all security statuses
Security -> Alerts Log finds 0 records.
Security -> Security status has "No devices" in all rooms.

I've got many more questions but this whole wall of text will have to do for now so I don't scare more people off. Plus if I get things working hopefully I'll figure things on my own. I'm asking a lot so if you only have time to answer one or two questions that's fine! Keep in mind that later on when I'll understand Security a bit better I'll update the Wiki as there isn't much info on it at the moment.
