Installation issues / Nvidia GF Go5600 - Failed to setup X
« on: April 28, 2012, 05:59:34 pm »
I finally found the power adapter to an old dusty Toshiba laptop with an Nvidia Geforce Go5600 GPU. However it doesn't go through the MD install as it stops at the "Failed to setup X". A few minutes before that you see the text about Nvidia drivers being installed but I can only assume those drivers are too new?

Is there any easy way to fix this? Maybe install some old drivers or something. Searching the forum I see a few posts about "nvidia-glx-legacy" drivers but not all that much - I wouldn't even know how to install them (but I do know how to SSH too that MD/moon if that's needed!).

Users / ISDN support or SPA3000 equivalent?
« on: March 23, 2012, 05:49:35 pm »
My connection has 1 ISDN line and 2 analogue. I might need to switch the analogue (house) phone-line to ISDN so I have a few worries:

Is ISDN not well supported? (i.e. is it worse for a newbie like me to change?). I have a SPA3000 that does exactly what I would want in the sense that if LMCE breaks down, the normal phone will still work like usual due to the connection being bridged. Is there anything similar to SPA3000 but for ISDN? The searching I have done leads me to think negatively on both questions but maybe I have missed something, hence why I'm asking. Thanks.

Users / Multiswitch MythTV setup
« on: January 14, 2012, 07:46:08 pm »
I have 1x Quattro LNB (LOF: 9,75 / 10,60 GHz) connected to an EMP Centauri 9/16 Multiswitch. Standard satellite receivers receive the channels without any problem. However I am unable to get it to work for MythTV. I have checked the cable by using a standard receiver. My card is the Hauppauge HVR-4000 and I have a second one that I have tried as well.

One thing I am unsure about is how to configure the DISEqC page. I think I understand the concept that first DISEqC chooses between the two sets. Then the low vs high band and finally vertical vs horizontal. However I can only guess how that should look for the MythTV setup page.

I have no idea if anything else is the problem but I do know that I don't know what to do on this part of the setup so might as well tackle that first. I did get it to work back on 8.10 but I don't remember how, so it's highly likely that physically the cards aren't damaged.

When I search for channels I search for 10803000Khz, H, 22000, QPSK, 5/6 on ASTRA 2 (28.2) to find BBC News. So any pointers in the right direction is welcome. For starters I guess I choose a a DISEqC Switch with 2 ports right? Then do I get 2 Tone switches?

Thanks

Users / Z-wave Smoke Detector repeater?
« on: September 05, 2011, 04:31:14 pm »
I'm considering in finally laying down a bit of money on z-wave smoke detectors. We have a fairly large house where we rent a few apartment and studios so it seems pretty wise to get some connected to the system. However, the floors are made out of concrete so there's most likely no way for the controller to get past more than 1 floor.

The question I'm wondering is if the unit (SF812) also functions as a repeater? (below is part of the text from the manual)

Quote
From The photoelectric Smoke Detector is a Z-WaveTM enabled device which is fully compatible with any Z-WaveTM enabled network. Z-WaveTM enabled devices displaying the Z-WaveTM logo can also be used with it regardless of the manufacturer, and ours can also be used in other manufacturer’s Z-WaveTM enabled networks. Inclusion of this detector on other manufacturer’s Wireless Controller menu allows remote operation of connected modules when the detector is triggered. Z-Wave node in the system also acts as a repeater, so as to re-transmit the RF signal to ensure that the signal is received by its intended destination by routing the signal around obstacles and radio dead spots.
From: ftp.zwaveeurope.com/pub/man/en/EVR/EVR_SF812_in_en.pdf
It only says "Z-Wave node" so I can't say I'm certain if they mean nodes in general or this product.

Users / Security and Motion Wrapper
« on: June 17, 2011, 09:02:18 pm »
I'm quite lost when it comes to security as to what can be done or should happen. I'm trying to play around with it but I'm not getting any success. I have a functional SPA3000 that does outside calls and USB camera connected with Motion Wrapper which gets an image no problem as well as the rectangular boxes showing movement. As I understand this should be enough for the system to detect movement and give me a phone call (correct me if I'm wrong) or make some kind of announcement on the MD's. I've tried to do this with no luck. I've even tried Monitor Mode.

To start off here are a few questions for Security -> Active sensors (where my camera is listed):
1. Is "Snap Picture" what stores pictures and video on /home/cameras/camera_id/..?
2. If not: is the camera always supposed to take a picture and a video (latter during movement detection) and what does Snap Picture do then?
If yes: how come it still takes videos when I've set it to Do Nothing?
3. Is "Announcement" for outputting sound/video to the MDs during a breach?
4. Is "Security" calling internal and external phones?
5. If I'm correct on some of these, is there some way to for example have all three on? (that images are taken, an intruder is scared away and I get notified)
6. Again if I'm correct, do these need any type of configurations or are there eg. pre-recorded messages? The only configuration I find is in Security -> Settings by Alert Type which is mostly about timings.
7. What is "Pool Alerts"?

Now it might be that I have misconfigured something that makes all of this not work but I do get a feed from the camera and, like I said, video is being recorded. I've therefore attached a picture with Security Video-Links, Reaction to Sensors and Cellphone Notifications in case something looks wrong.
Do note:
I've tried my outside number both with and without a 9 (I need to press 9 to call outside)
I've tried all security statuses
Security -> Alerts Log finds 0 records.
Security -> Security status has "No devices" in all rooms.

I've got many more questions but this whole wall of text will have to do for now so I don't scare more people off. Plus if I get things working hopefully I'll figure things on my own. I'm asking a lot so if you only have time to answer one or two questions that's fine! Keep in mind that later on when I'll understand Security a bit better I'll update the Wiki as there isn't much info on it at the moment.

Installation issues / Problem with Asterisk latest update 8.10
« on: June 13, 2011, 03:16:27 pm »
Hello, I got the update from 2011-06-12 (8.10) and now neither the intercom nor incoming calls work. I've got a Cisco 7971 and a SPA3000 that were all fully functional before. I posted a screen of FreeFBX which seem to give some errors. When rebooting the core I see [ OK ] for Asterisk starting.

If I need to provide with more info please be specific as I am a newbie at all this. The only reason why I got it work in the first place is step by step guides =)

Thanks in advance

Installation issues / MythTV-Setup configuring DVB-T (Switzerland)
« on: April 15, 2011, 10:17:19 pm »
I've got both a Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-1200 and 4000. I've managed to configure the DVB-S part on the 4000 properly so that I get channels but neither card find any channels when scanning for DVB-T.

Both cards are PnP and I remember getting DVB-T channels when I tried out the 1200 back before the winter. I am not sure if I configured anything wrong but I might have missed something. I've tried all different kinds of things in MythTV-Setup. Right now I am also trying with deleting the cards and then only having the 1200. So far the scanning still fails to lock to any channels but am continuing with one card only (1200) until this works.

My backend configuration is the following:
1. General
TV format: PAL-BG (have also tried PAL)
VBI format: PAL Teletext
Channel frequency table: europe-west (have also tried default)

2. Capture Cards
All on default - Using the DVB-T tuner (the 1700 only has one anyways)

3. Video sources
I've tried two things mainly
Listings Grabber: EIT and Switzerland (xmltv)
xmltv grabber for Switzerland doesn't work as the site it took it from change things. But this part is only for the channel/program guide right? As in it shouldn't affect the channel scanning?
Links to tickets about it
http://www.lonelycoder.com/redmine/issues/341
https://bugs.launchpad.net/freeguide-tv/+bug/695116
Channel frequency table: europe-west (have also tried default)

4. Input Connections:
I've chosen the video source from "3."
Quick tuning: tried all options

Scan for channels
Scan type: Full Scan
Country: there is no Switzerland so I've tried all others.

Have I configured it wrong? Did I miss configuring something?
As mentioned this is for Switzerland. Lastly I have tested the cable and antenna on a stand-alone DVB-T box for the TV and it gets the channels perfectly. I don't know what else to do. Considering how little options there are for DVB-T I can only find very simple/primitive MythTV guides for it.

Installation issues / New install - MythTV setup problem
« on: June 13, 2010, 01:04:20 am »
Hello, I just did a new install (Kubuntu first then "web" install). I have problems with MythTV and am a little confused about it. Firstly I don't have the MythTV Setup in Computing. Secondly if I go directly to "TV" the screen switches between 3 different windows ("cinematic 1" Playback starting/Media Library/Watch Recordings) until LMCE says that the MythTV is having problems and asks if it should reset the backend. I also get the following error message even long after LMCE asked to reset the backend: "Could not connect to the master backend server -- is it running? Is the IP address set for it in the setup program correct?"

I am confused with a few things. First http://avenard.org/files/..../Packages.bz2 didn't get fetched due to "Hash Sum mismatch" but it is stated that the Avenard repo is no longer needed here: http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Installing_0810. So assuming that the former is the Avenard "repo" (I'm unfortunately a newbie so not sure if this is the case), this shouldn't matter at all.
However, MythTV setup should be found under Computing when it isn't and, having seen this thread (http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=9805.0), the problem might be due to a lack of Avenard repo. The thread links to another page (that is also found in the "Installating 810" wiki page for MythTV install problems with the DVD installation) but with code that seems to be for MythTV 0.22. Just changing the latter 2 to 3 comes to mind but I don't want to make things worse!

So if anyone could help me out it would be great. Keep in mind I'm a newbie so if things like logs are needed please tell me exactly what to do.
Thanks in advance!

Feature requests & roadmap / Multiple blinds - Zwave Merten
« on: September 18, 2009, 06:25:42 pm »
I'm mainly still in the planning stage and am thinking about having z-wave controlled blinds. Unless I'm wrong, Merten seems to be the popular way to go here. I'm wondering though, do they only work with one blind each? So if I for example have 2 blinds and want to be able to control them separately I need the sets of items (the blind control insert and the pushbutton) twice?
Thanks

Installation issues / Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-4000
« on: July 03, 2009, 04:14:53 am »
So I got my first LinuxMCE install going (810 alpha) and managed to get USBUIRT and my Cisco 7971 working. Now I'm stuck...or have been stuck on my DVB-T/S card for the past half a day. I've been getting all sorts of problem including writing v41(one) instead of v4l(L) and not noticing this until an hour later!

Card: Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-4000
What I've done so far is
Updated the firmware:
v1.22.82.0 (http://linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/Hauppauge_WinTV-HVR-4000#Firmware_v1.22.82.0) The v1.23.86.1 in rar format fails to extract all but one file so I took this prior version.
Code: [Select]
wget http://www.hauppauge.de/software/mce/88x_2_122_26109_WHQL.zip
unzip -jo 88x_2_122_26109_WHQL.zip Driver88/hcw88bda.sys
sudo dd if=hcw88bda.sys of=/lib/firmware/dvb-fe-cx24116-1.22.82.0.fw skip=75504 bs=1 count=32501
sudo ln -s /lib/firmware/dvb-fe-cx24116-1.22.82.0.fw /lib/firmware/dvb-fe-cx24116.fw
Installed Mercurial:
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get install mercurialInstalled the Driver:
Code: [Select]
hg clone http://linuxtv.org/hg/v4l-dvb/
cd v4l-dvb
make
make install
reboot
VDR
I need to change my multi-switch so at the moment I'm just testing out DVB-T. So scanning in DVB-T in Switzerland:
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install dvb-utils
sudo /etc/init.d/vdr stop
ls /usr/share/doc/dvb-utils/examples/scan/dvb-t
#ch-All_Incomplete for Switzerland
cd /home
sudo scan -o vdr -p -u /usr/share/doc/dvb-utils/examples/scan/dvb-t/ch-All_Incomplete > channels.conf
And this is where I'm stuck. I get this error:
Code: [Select]
using '/dev/dvb/adapter0/frontend0' and '/dev/dvb/adapter0/demux1'
ERROR: invalid enum value '8MHZ'
initial transponder 562000000 3 5 1 1 1 3 0

Done.
I assume it's trying to use the DVB-S part of the card for the DVB-T? Well whether I'm right or wrong on that, does anyone know how to fix this? I didn't find much when searching (wiki, forum, google etc.) for this problem so I'm completely lost. If there is any information that I need to get please be very specific on what to do as this is also my first time on Linux.
MythTV
I'm not sure whether I'll choose VDR or MythTV in the end. I tried to get it to work on MythTV for a few minutes but when reading the instructions in the wiki there were too many uncertainties on what exactly to do. Right now I just want to see that my card is working and VDR instructions seemed more straight forward for a newbie like me.

Users / Controlling LMCE remotely
« on: September 25, 2008, 10:07:33 pm »
I will finally start trying to setup LinuxMCE in a month or so at my families' house. One question I got asked is if it was possible to control things by calling the phone (just like people have been able to turn on/off their heating by calling their house for a long time). So is it possible if you have the IP phone set-up?

Compatible Products & Services / Thin CPU Fan AM2
« on: August 01, 2008, 04:48:49 pm »
Hello, I'm thinking on buying this thin case for some of my MD's http://www.hipergroup.com/products.php?lv=4&cate=2&type=12&pid=128&action=Picture The problem is that it's so thin that 99.9999999% of the fans won't go in there -.- Does anyone know any CPU fan (AM2) thats pretty much 40mm high? The only one I found so far is the one from the same brand and it would cost me almost as much as the case would so yeh, if there is any alternative I'm listening. Google hasn't been for too much help with this :/

I'll also ask another Q whilst I'm here. Do fanless CPUs coolers/blocks work for a simple MD with an AMD sempron CPU? And if yes, are there any that are recommended? Those I see usually have the ability to add a stock fan to them so I don't get if the stock fan is a must or if it's just an option for those want.

Thanks

Users / Multiple screens on the same MD? Multi-GPU?
« on: July 12, 2008, 01:55:15 am »
Heya, this is my first post in this great place =) Been reading and planning things this past week(s) and keeping on learning new things that the system is available to do. There's one thing I haven't been able to find any information on: is it possible for one MD to work on 2 TV's at the same time?

I'm planning to have 2 TVs close to each other. One large TV close to the MD and a smaller one will be placed 3 or so meters away around the corner. This latter one doesn't need good quality so the TV-out (S-video) output on the graphics card would be just fine. So basically, to make it clear (I'm the worst person at explaining stuff), is an MD with a GFX card (lets say a GForce6+ with 2 DVI's and 1 S-video) able to use one of the DVIs for one TV and the S-video to another at the same time?

If this isn't possible, would it be possible if the MD had a second graphics card? eg. the soon to be released Geforce 8 series on the PCI slot that roberto99 posted about (http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=5748.0)

Thanks
