Installation issues / Re: Setting up a Hauppauge PVR USB2
« on: August 18, 2008, 04:05:34 am »
Anyone have any new ideas on this problem? I just got back from vacation, tinkered a bit more with it, but still the external tuner is not being detected. Any help is appreciated.

Installation issues / Setting up a Hauppauge PVR USB2
« on: August 09, 2008, 11:06:52 pm »
I hooked up a Hauppauge PVR USB2 tv tuner to my hybrid system, and it did not auto-detect it. I have tried rebooting. In the setup wizard it is not listed under providers. This system has a PVR-150 installed in it currently (it was picking up interference in the case making the tv static-y). I was hoping i wouldn't have to remove the 150, because its a small case and that would be a pain, and i didn't think it would be an issue. Is the 150 interfering in some way? How do i setup the USB2? Thanks.

The stickers don't mention the voltage anywhere on them. I will give 6volts a try, thanks  :)

Installation issues / Questions about RS232 ports
« on: July 11, 2008, 03:16:57 am »
So I am looking to buy a new TV, something that will work much better with mce than my current one. I want to stay away from ir blasting, and control the TV's on/off/etc, more directly. From what I have read that means a TV with a RS232 port. I have looked around and found answers to most, but I still have 2 questions.

1) So say I have a TV with a RS232 port. How do I connect that to my computer? Are there rs232-to-usb cables or do I need a serial port on my computer? What cable to I get

2) Shopping around I have noticed the majority of TV's have usb ports instead of rs232. Will those TV's with USB instead of RS232 still work with mce when connected to my computer?

My computer is a hybrid system, as everything is in one room, and the tv I am thinging about getting is this one: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3303807&body=MAIN
Just in case someone noticed something about it that wont work out (like the port being referred to as rs232C. No idea if that means anything). Thanks a bunch.

Installation issues / Screen getting croped
« on: July 10, 2008, 02:14:35 am »
When I go to the KDE desktop the sides are trimmed off all around. Bit of the top, both sides, and bottom are cut off so that I only see part of the kicker and never the close window 'x' on window title bars.

The MCE interface is fully visible and playing media seems fine. I am hooked up to the tv via s-video and would like to have a full desktop view for web browsing/setting up torrents/games/etc. A point in the right direction would be much appreciated :)

Back online :) My router decided that this would be a nice time to break. Sadly me not responding was not because my problems were solved.

I think I have the room/location setup properly, whats a way I can double check that? All of my stuff is in one room, its a hybrid system. I poked around with the uirt some more, and when I send a code in the "test code" area of the web admin, a light on the usburit blinks, so it is receiving my test. Looked around the forums some more, and found a few places that say i386 setups need the usbuirt plug-in/dongle external ir sender to work. Is this still true?

Ok so I think i know where my transmit/learn problems are coming from.

I noticed here: http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=4281.msg24730#msg24730
that I need to be sending to "USB UIRT 0038", but mine is setup to "USB UIRT Embedded Transmit". I hooked up the USB-UIRT to my windows box and ran lrnhelper.exe to test out code learning/sending, and it works great. I was able to turn my tv on and off, mess with volume, etc. I also now have the correct pronto codes, tested and verified from lrnhelper.exe

But in web admin when I send the codes from in the Add i/r group it says its sending to device 51, which is "USB UIRT Embedded Transmit", instead of my device 27 "USB UIRT 0038". The drop down box "Send codes to device" only offers "USB UIRT Embedded Transmit". How do I change it to use device 27 "USB UIRT 0038"?

Ok, I will give that a try. Re-trying making the template has led to a new problem also. I now have more than one 50ux53k template. Is there a way to delete templates? All I can find is deleting devices.

Thanks this definitely looks like were I needed to be. I am getting stuck at one of the steps however, pictured below:

It says there are 46 code packs, but it only shows one and it has no data to test.

I am a little confused about setting up my usb-uirt to control my tv. I couldn't use the section in the setup wizard because my tv (Hitachi  50ux53k) is not on the list. I am reading stuff about learning mode, and templates, but I cant figure any of it out. How do I setup a ir code template and/or test codes out? Thanks a bunch in advance.

I love you.

Never used a gyro remote before, didn't know about the mouse button  :)
Problem solved, and I feel like a fool
