As requested, please find link below. There are numerous combinations to look at. They are smal and compact much like the old FIIRE equipment

Installation issues / MediaGate products as MD's
« on: May 13, 2010, 11:23:10 am »
Hi All,

I did a search through the wiki and the forums and could not find anything on the Media gate products and whether they are suitable as Md's.

Is anyone using them or tried to use them as MD's ?

TIA

Justin

Hi,

Interesting to know as this was my main reason for going across to VDR. Mind you i haven't looked back since and onl consider changing back if i do a rebuild and want to try Mythtv again.

Good information to know. Would suggest it get added to the wiki if you haven't already done so.

Like children - would you have joint custody and allowed so many hours viewing ???

I was talking to my wife about that and she just laughed and said - the kids would stay wherever the movies were.

Hi all,

I am just curious - which do you use - VDR or MtyhTV and why.

I did use Mythtv originally and it worked ok - but i could never get the channel guide to work properly and when it did work it was patchy.

I setup VDR and after some minor tinkering it has been working perfectly.

I am currently looking into rebuilding my install as i have a new grunty machine to play with as part of a virtualisation topic that i have posted and i wanted to get peoples thoughts.

Collin,

The main thought behind using the machine mentioned previously is that i have 2 grunty workstations which are used purely for number crunching, 1 windows xp machine and of course 1 core LMCE machine. I don't play games or do any decoding on the machine so i am not too worried about having performance issues in that regard. All of this sits in my study and i have crap everywhere. My aim was to consolidate my mess into just the one machine as it has enough grunt to do all of the tasks happily as far as i can see.

Skeptic - i am currently running a virtual box on my xp machine with Linuxmce as a trial and it seems to be ok - which is why the question was initially asked as i scored this box with huge potential so i thought why not go down this track and either run XP with virtuals hanging off it OR start with ESXI and then create my virtuals directly on it.

If i do go down the fully virtualised server  - has anybody tried ESXI with a image running Linuxmce ?

http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Internet_Radio

This link shows u how to add anternet radio to ur menu. There might be another option within this section that might help

Users / virtualisation - which is better windows or linux
« on: December 13, 2009, 06:59:26 am »
Hi All,

I have been lucky enough to acquire a machine which has dual socket 771 (2.8Ghz Quad core Xeons, 16GB ECC RAM, quad GB NICS). Now the question i have is as follows..... ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I am looking to virtualize linuxmce - what underlying os is better, windows XP/7 64 bit or Linux (ie ubuntu, Fedora)?

In terms of storage capacity it has 3TB on board and the SAS box that i scored with it has dual Fibre cards and the storage array has 16 TB....

Any thoughts on O/S and what virutalisation software to run? I use vmware for several things currently and also started playting with virtualbox in a windows environment .

I realise there has been questions and info posted in the wiki - but i want to do this right the first time as i have several environments that need to be virtualised.

As always thanks in advance to all.

Regards

Justin

Thanks all - i will keep it the way it is.

Has anyone come across the issue of the nas cpu utilisation being at 100% when hooked up to linuxmce?

Hi Chris,

i use VDR instead of MYTHTV as i had alot of problems to start with and could never get the channels to work nor could i get the programme information to work either.

In relation to copying over the channels.conf - i assume this is a simple thing to do - where do i copy it to in the MD config so that it picks it up.

I rebuilt the MD after i had done the updates with the new channel.conf and would have assumed the MD would have taken the new channels.conf as part of the rebuild. Is this not the case ?

I know this is a simple fix and i suspect some of the AU linuxmce users have come across this before and have resolved it.

Basically - i can view all my DVB-t channels in brisbane on my server (7.10) but for some reason my MD's seem to want to point to german channels.

I have reloaded the VDR protocols from scratch and have re scanned the channels with the same result. I even rebuit a md from scratch and i got the program information (ie what was on when) but there was still no live tv...

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Users / external nas versus internal raid

Hi All,

I have been away and noticed that 8.10 beta is up and running and from what i can read some exceptional work has been done by everyone.

My question is as follows - i run 7.10 with an external QNAP NAS system and it has worked well until recently. I have started to notice that the cpu usage within the nas dashboard has been at 100% consistently. If i take it out of the linuxmce envrionment and run it under windows the cpu utilisation drops to only 5%. When i reconnect it - the cpu utilisation climbs back up to 95% and as soon as i try run media from it we go back to 100%. I have done all the firmware updates for the QNAP nas and as far as i can tell it seems to be something within linuxmce. Has anyone come across this and if so is it easy to resolve?

Alternatively i was contemplating rebuilding everything under 8.10 and instead of using the external nas i was contemplating throwing in a couple of TB drives for my media and run it directly from the server only.

If this has been posted please direct me to the link.

As always thanks in advance

Justin

Best of luck.

It would be interesting to see if there was something like that here in oz that we could get a stall going.
