Jayeye,

Hi , I had the same problem and i resolved it by installing via CD. It is slower but it worked perfectly. I have several machines with the 8400GS and they work fine - but there is a little trick. Did you check this out as link that made it work for me? http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=5595.msg32887#msg32887

Installation issues / Re: Fiire experience
« on: July 18, 2008, 09:43:48 am »
Hi Apneadiver,

Sorry for my delay in responding to this forum as i only returned from holidays last night and have not had access to my email. In relation to my Fiire setup and overall experience i have only purchased a Fiire station (2.2" unit). I have spent most of the day trying to get the unit up and running without success. I have searched long and hard trying to find out where the problem may be and was ready to send a lengthy email to anyone in fiire who would listen to me. I just happened after reading an unrelated post regarding unrecognised nics it appears the problem may not be with the fiire product but may in fact be the asus p5k mobo. I will change the nic and let you know how it goes.

I am glad that there is someone in fiire who appears to be interested in improving the product and will certainly be happy to offer my comments upon the completion of my setup of my fiire station. Whilst i am a newbie to this arena and linux - any comments good or bad will be a start of something good - i hope.

Hi Darren,

I have the leadtek DV2300H and cannot get it running and read a few posts and basically gave up on the idea and thought about using the hauppages as many people seem to be using them without problems.

I dabbled with myth tv about 2 years ago and my tv capture cards sadly died with the computer.

Collin - Select TV is basically the optus aurora and i find it quite good. But for the amount of time i actually spend watching it i am deciding whether my money can be spent elsewhere on some other goodies.

What sort of DVB-S card do you have. I use selectTV myself and just wonder what the limitations/benefits for going this way. After i set the whole house up, incoroprating selecttv was going to be my next addition - but if it is eay enough to do i will do it from the start.

Installation issues / TV capture cards - Australian Linuxmce setup
« on: June 29, 2008, 12:58:32 am »
Hi All,

I am curious to know of any oz linuxmce users that run multiple tv capture cards in a core machine that work with little or no configuration in linuxmce.

Could you please advise which ones work well and which ones to avoid.
I am also curious to find out how to set them up in the core (ie tune channels, etc) or whether they are setup up via some other means. I had a look around the forums and i didn't have much luck.

I am new to this and am looking to move away from windows media centre and very much like the features this product has and can see why people are using it.

Many Thanks in advance
Justin

Installation issues / Re: NVIDIA 8600 GT
« on: June 27, 2008, 08:16:44 am »
Hi All,

I found a solution that worked perfectly for me and might help you out. I read in a previous thread about people having issues along similar lines to what some of us are experiencing. Unfortunately i cannot find the link and hopefuly someone will find it again and post it on this thread. Anyhows - if you install a freah copy of kbuntu. Once that has finished go into the system settings, monitor and display, hardware. Once you get here select the administrator mode down the bottom of the screen and then select the hardware again and then choose the video card and click on configure. Leave the current select showing nv in the window - but down below it will show detected video cards. Click on the select button. Select the nvidia version and click ok. Click apply to change the settings. A message will say it has not been tested on this version - continue anyway and all will be good.

Then install linuxmce and all is good. It worked like a treat for me and i didn't get the clack screen.

Whilst it means a full reinstall and going through the exercise - it has saved me hours and hours of stuffing around trying to get it working any other way.

Hope this helps.

PS if anyone finds the link i am refering to please post it as the instructions are a little better.

Pigdog,
So this is normal that after you hit enter to install to HDD with DVD, it will go blank and you will see nothing for 30 - 40minutes. I will leave it run and see what happens and will updte when i have done this.

Cheers

Installation issues / ISSUES AFTER FIRST INSTALL SCREEN
« on: June 22, 2008, 04:25:41 am »
Hi All,

I am new to this and am very keen to get this up and running. I have downloaded the DVD_amd_64 version on 2 seperate occassion and machines at different locations in case it was location specific. Basically the proble i have is as follows, I boot off the CD and i can see the kbuntu screen and i can choose either install to HDD, memory or boot to first HDD. Cool - this works fine, after this if i choose install to HDD (option 1) the screen goes black and nothing. I have tried this using analog, DVI or svideo and the same result happens. I thought it was the burner or location specific and subsequently tried to download and setup from another location - same issue.

My configuration is as follows

MSI K9N Neo (with latest bios)
AMD athlon 64 x2 4800+ processor
2GB DDRII RAM
250GB SATA seagate HDD
ASUS EN8400GS Pci express video card (Nvidia chipset)
DL DVDRW
Various capture cards - have tried 3 different types..same fault.
Thermaltake Mozart IP case.

This machine will be used a MD only. Yes it is an overkill but it was left over from another project. Any thoughts or suggestions as to why this is not even getting past the start line.

Thanks in Advance

Justin ???
