Users / MD Hardware Upgrade question.
« on: March 28, 2009, 05:50:21 pm »
Hi all.

I've got an old P4 1Gig which is PXE booting via ROM-O-Matic floppy.

Compared to my Home Theatre unit this system freezes a lot during DVD play back.

I thought I'd swap it out with another system that has a Sempron 2800+ / EP-8KDA3+ mobo 1Gig RAM.

I was wondering if I could cheat and go into webadmin/media directors and edit the ethernet MAC address?

I'm using the original video card because I need the S-video out.

I figure leaving it as architecture/Model i386 would be O.K.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

I deleted my MD's and added a new one.

Still looping.

Something has to be corrupted big time on the Core.

I've rebuilt the Core.

One good point is that after trying 4 times I've finally managed to get a 32 bit DVD version that md5sum'd and everything.

Hi,

One thing you might want to try is setting useEDID=true in your xorg.conf file.  This will allow you to run in "native resolution".

Cheers.

Users / Floorplan Issues

Hi all.

I've got 2 MD's (+ core).  One MD is in room "Home Theatre (HT)" and the other "Playroom (PR)".

HT is running UI2+alpha while PR is UI2.

I created two separate floorplans (HT & PR) and added them on core via webadmin to floorplans/media.

On both MD's when I tried to switch between floorplans (for simultaneous play) I can only view one floorplan.

(I'm not sure if was the first or second one entered.)

One floorplan is layered on top of the other.

The second layered (covered) floorplan will flash for a second when selected via media floorplan screen.

So I figured image layering was a problem using UI2.

I then created a single floorplan with two entertainment rooms.

I deleted the other two floorplans via webadmin.

I added this single floorplan via webadmin to floorplans/media.

I placed both Pluto MD's on the floorplan.

Core & MD's have been reloaded.

The core webadmin page shows the single floorplan.

Both MD's memu media/floorplan still show the "deleted" layered floorplans.

The /home/pluto/floorplans/inst76976 directory on the core has only 1.png file listed.

When opened and viewed it is the newer floorplan.

When I reboot my MD's I'll receive the message "There are some devices on this media director that did not correctly start blah, blah" etc.

I'm told that "You have recently changed scenarios, floorplans or other settings.  I need to regenerate the graphical screens etc."

If I agree to reload the orbiter I get into a loop.

I just keep on getting device on media director did not start correctly and need to regenerate messages.

I went back via webadmin and deleted the one existing .png floorplan and reloaded the core and MD's.

I'm still in the loop.

On the Core I double checked the /home/pluto/floorplans/inst76976 directory.  No floorplan.

On the MD I ran the video/audio setup and changed my UI2 alpha setting to UI1 and restarted.

Bad move. I now receive the following...

"The resolution has changed.  I'll regenerate the user interface."

Followed by ...

"The UI is being regenerated.  This will take between 15-30 minutes.  If you get this same message again after the regeneration is finished, then that means the gernerator on the Core"

These two messages keep looping.

I shut down the MD that I changed, went to the core, deleted the latest xorg.conf and copied in the backup.

I restarted the MD.

Same loop.

I restarted the Core.  When it had rebooted I restarted the modified MD (original xorg.conf).

I'm in the same regen loop.  Both messages, the launch manager screen, both messages, launch manager, etc.

I let this run for a hour.

All floorplans were created around 1200 x 1200.  Nothing larger.

I see basically two issues with floorplans - one being the layering effect and the second being the MD not reflecting the updated drawing change.

Getting stuck in this regen loop is something else.

Before I delete my MD's and re-add them any suggestions?

I have tried reloading the router, regen all orbiters on the Core and rebooting all systems.

Installation issues / Re: MCE install on MD running 7.10
« on: November 07, 2008, 02:11:28 pm »
Media Director's are diskless units (no HDD) that PXE boot over the LMCE network.  The core sets up the software/directories for the MD.  There's no software that needs to be loaded on the MD in this case your laptop.  You just need to have the device PXE boot.  Disked MD's are not supported on 7.10

Hope this helps.

Cheers.

Markstamp.

You may have to change settings in your xorg.conf file.  There's alot of posts and alot of approaches from using the EDID settings to run in native resolution to having the required display settings programmed as default.

To get my 1080p display to run natively I just changed the 2 useEDID settings to true.

Good luck.

Gino,

When I setup my LCD as 1080p/DVI via wizard (on a diskless MD/Nvidia card running LMCE default Nvidia driver) the screen on initial boot would run as 1080p until LMCE loaded and the screen would then default to 640.  All I did to run in native resolution (1080p on my LCD) was edit the xorg, conf EDID settings (two places) to = true.  After reboot everything ran natively as 1080p.

Hope this helps.

Installation issues / Re: Diskless setup failed
« on: September 26, 2008, 02:08:44 pm »
On one of my diskless MD's on the first attempt I was announced to the router but the "Diskless setup failed" message was generated.

Just prior to the "we announce" message your architecture type will be displayed i.e. amd64.

My Core system runs i386 software.  My diskless MD is architecture amd64.

For my case on the core system open admin website and select Devices/Media Director.

Under the Device column you'll see the architecture field set to amd64.

Edit this to i386 and on the bottom of the page click the update button.

Restart the diskless MD.

Wait for Diskless_Setup.sh to complete.

Hope this helps.

Hi,

I had a similar problem with my Aquos.  During MD boot it would run 1080p but when loading of LMCE it would switch to 640x480.

In order to use native resolution of the Aquos (1080p) I had to edit the xorg.conf EDID settings (2 places).

The set then ran 1080p natively.

Cheers.

Justin,

Just before the we announce ourselves message does your system report that you are using architecture amd64?

If so try changing it to i386.

On the core system open admin website and select Devices/Media Director.

Under the Device column you'll see the architecture field set to amd64.

Edit this to i386 and on the bottom of the page click the update button.

Restart the diskless MD.

Hope this helps.

Hi,

Just curious...

Have you copied the MCE1&2 disks plus the Kubuntu .iso files to your HDD?

If so, what's your Kubuntu cache failure?

Cheers

Installation issues / Re: Kubuntu install issues / GRUB
« on: July 27, 2008, 12:33:58 am »
Hi,

I had lots of problems trying to download DVD versions of LMCE because of network throttling by ISP.

It was much easier to download the CD's even though it take so long to install.

32-bit works much better than 64-bit application.  Lots of headaches with 64-bit.

Installation issues / Re: Two Nics
« on: July 27, 2008, 12:30:20 am »
Hi,

To be very simple:  one NIC on a core or core/hybrid (eth0) is your real world connection (the internet - some real world!).

The second NIC is your internal LMCE (eth1) network.

Eth0 connected a router you can have your in house network (wife's PC, the kids PC's your home office) and core (core/hybrid) network access.

Connect Eth1 LMCE thru a gigabyte switch feeding your MD's, PABX, home automation, etc. you've got two distinct networks, home and LMCE.

Works fine, lasts a long time.

Hi,

Glad to hear that things are going better.

There will not be a 8.04 release from what I understand.  8.10 will probably be the next release but don't expect that the latest LMCE version to match the 8.10 release date.  A lot of testing/interface will have to be done before a new LMCE is available.
