Installation issues / Re: linuxmce won't start
« on: April 23, 2009, 01:43:24 pm »
Hi boardgame,

I'm just trying to get a little more information.

Did you md5sum the .iso files you downloaded?

Did you download 32bit or 64 bit versions?

What version of Kubuntu did you install?

When you installed CD's did you choose dedicated core or core/hybrid? (It sounds like you've selected core/hybrid.)

Did you use this link http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Installation_Guide?

Thanks, please be patience the community is here to help.

Cheers.

Hi Craptastic,

I'd just plug it in and not worry about drivers at the moment.

Wait to see if it comes up alright.

Cheers.

Hi kyfalcon,

Go into webadmin, pull up media directors and look at the fields for that MD.

What do you have set?

Cheers

Hi kyfalcon,

I've got an NX8400 in a MD and it gave no problems in 710.

Did the system assign a number for the MD in /usr/pluto/diskless ?

Cheers

Hi kyfalcon,

...and just to be sure you are installing the 710 version?

Cheers.

Hi kyfalcon,

Is this the 8400 card that has s-video and dvi connectors only?

If so, are you trying to boot it up with tv-out connected?

What do you mean by crashing?  The screen going black?

Just trying to get a little more information.

Thanks.

Hi fillister,

I just built a boot disk for a 8139 Realtec chipset.

Take a look at http://rom-o-matic.net/ and see what chipsets they are supporting,

or,

you can take a boo at Techstyle's wiki for grub pxe booting http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/GRUB_PXE_network_boot

Cheers.

Hi wierdbeard65,

For an MD I'm also waiting to see what then Acer Aspire Revo is going to be like.

Then I just VESA mount it on the back of my Aquos LCD and use the Crunchpad as the oribter.

Cheers.

Hi,

Bluetooth dongle can be very touchy about where it is (port location).

Sometimes you have to move it around till you find an usb port it likes.

I got it running just fine on the Core/Hybrid and today I migrated it to a MD (had to move it around usb ports) but all was fine.

It installs so easy on 810, compared to 710.

Cheers.

Hi wierdbeard65,

I'm waiting to see where Crunchpad might go.  Probably alot less $$$.  At least I hope.

Hi gadget,

If you're running a core/hybrid and you've built the repository list correctly then you just have to go to the KDE desktop and let it run the update/upgrade mechanism.

Cheers.

Developers / 810 alpha MD no public key - info only
« on: April 21, 2009, 05:07:12 pm »
Hi,

I tried to do an apt-get update on a MD and got a no public key - NO_PUBKEY XXXXXXXXXXXX error.

Where XXXXXXX is the number returned.

To recover I had to do the following 2 commands...

gpg --keyserver subkeys.pgp.net --recv XXXXXXXXX (the number)

gpg --export --armor XXXXXXXXX | sudo apt-key add -

After executing these commands my apt-get update ran fine.

apt-get dist-upgrade did not cause any problems, just apt-get update.

Cheers.

Installation issues / Re: No NIC's on Core (just a newbie question)
« on: April 21, 2009, 03:35:46 am »
Hi Pnuts,

Looks like some of the info couldn't be interpreted.

bus:device.function class: vendor. etc.

For example: 00:11:0 Ethernet Controller: SIS 900 (rev 90)

It's working, so you're off to the races.

Good luck.

Hi chrisbirkinshaw,

Sorry I'm a little confused.  The last message I sent to you in this thread you could not PXE boot.

So it seems that you can PXE boot now.  Correct?

On the core from a terminal you ran sudo /usr/pluto/bin/Diskless_BuildDefaultImage.sh - correct?

Then you did a physical reboot of the MD?

Then Rundiskless setup fails?

Does the device get created in webadmin?

Sorry, I just want to know where I am.

Cheers.
