Darn!

I logged into terminal 1 and the system reported that a system restart was required (after initial install).

I restarted and now, no joy.

decrouter login:   reports       init: plymouth-stop pre-start process (XXXX) terminated with status 1  (where XXXX is the PID #).

No X window.

OK,

Third times the charm.

First time system froze with a black screen.

Second time the mouse/keyboard died when trying to select analog, hdmi, etc for audio output.

I guess the chicken thing worked, but I didn't know it was suppose to be a dead chicken.

The neighbours are mad at me but the cops aren't going to press charges about the noise.

I'm going to start adding peripherals and try to make a MD or two.

Cheers

Hi,

So far no joy in Mudville (x2 attempts).

Will try swinging whole chicken counterclockwise at midnight while reciting 'V's 5th of November speech.

Evey Hammond: Who are you?

V: Who? Who is but the form following the function of what and what I am is a man in a mask.

Evey Hammond: Well I can see that.

V: Of course you can. I'm not questioning your powers of observation; I'm merely remarking upon the paradox of asking a masked man who he is.

Evey Hammond: Oh. Right.

V: But on this most auspicious of nights, permit me then, in lieu of the more commonplace sobriquet, to suggest the character of this dramatis persona.

V: Voilà! In view, a humble vaudevillian veteran, cast vicariously as both victim and villain by the vicissitudes of Fate. This visage, no mere veneer of vanity, is a vestige of the vox populi, now vacant, vanished. However, this valorous visitation of a by-gone vexation, stands vivified and has vowed to vanquish these venal and virulent vermin vanguarding vice and vouchsafing the violently vicious and voracious violation of volition.

[carves "V" into poster on wall]

V: The only verdict is vengeance; a vendetta, held as a votive, not in vain, for the value and veracity of such shall one day vindicate the vigilant and the virtuous.

V: [giggles]

V: Verily, this vichyssoise of verbiage veers most verbose, so let me simply add that it's my very good honor to meet you and you may call me V.

Evey Hammond: Are you, like, a crazy person?

V: I am quite sure they will say so. But to whom, might I ask, am I speaking?

Evey Hammond: I'm Evey.

V: Evey? E-V. Of course you are.

Evey Hammond: What does that mean?

V: It means that I, like God, do not play with dice and do not believe in coincidence. Are you hurt?

Gee, at school I was taught to "always avoid alliteration".

Will try to install again.

Cheers

Hi,

Sorry it has taken so long but I finally attempted to build a MD.

When the video/audio wizard ran I received text only.

There was STEP0 in red, STEPS 1,2,3, etc in green and no fields listed.

If I pressed the space bar the connecter, dpi and Hz boxes would pop up.

I could select HDMI, 1080p and 60 hz.  Then press enter key, the screen would go dark, but instead of moving on to Step2 the system would go into a loop back to Step 1 choices.

Cheers.

Hi,

I installed snap 31356 from scratch and I updated/upgraded my system this a.m. (Sept. 17/15).

My NAS was discovered and UpdateMedia found my "videos" and id3tags.

I had to adjust alsamixer for volume - using analog stereo.

FYI - I use an USB KVM and if the port for the LMCE system is not selected (active) I receive the following message on the terminal...

init: plymouth-stop pre-start process (10471) terminated with status 1

When I switch to the active port my mouse and keyboard are discovered.  I hit "enter" and receive a command prompt.  Xwindow does not start.

The startx command provides a .Xauthority does not exist message and F7 window shows startup messages.

When I switch between KVM ports I get disconnect/reconnect messages.  This is new for me but no big deal.  I just need to boot with the KVM port active and the LMCE system comes up fine.

FYI - When I use the menu to "Power Off MD" the system reboots, it does not shutdown.

I am going to build a MD or two next.

Cheers.

Hi,

I tried this snap x3 installs to figure out what was going on - (O.K. so I'm a little slow).

I was attempting to do a Core/Hybrid install.

On the first install I got audio/video setup but I never received Sarah.

What I noticed on the second install was that the system was doing a lmce-core install.

O.K. let it run out (because on the first install I tried Graphical Aspect - high to see if it was working) and on the second I went for medium to see if that was the issue.

So, the third time I did medium graphics again and went finished I logged in as root and tried "apt-get lmce-hybrid" - (can't get there from here).

I did an apt-get update & apt-get upgrade.  Reboot.  Got Sarah, did the Media Player setup.  When software was finished downloading did the restart.

Got Flicker and menu.

The volume was very low during audio setup and Sarah so I'll have to probably go into alsamixer to adjust - will advise.

I will try to add my NAS to see if I have the same issue (from about a week ago) with the wget install.

(NAS didn't go to sleep but UpdateMedia didn't do anyrthing until I did a Resynch in webadmin.) - will advise.

Cheers

Hi,

You could also try installing Kubuntu and doing a web upgrade as per these instructions...

Good luck.

Hi,

I've tried a few DVD snapshots but each one was problematic.

If you are just trying to build a Core/Hybrid, just for checking things out, http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=14089.0, worked for me.

I did create MD's (Media Directors) on this load [requires extra work as MD's weren't part of original build due to DVD space restrictions].

Cheers.

Hi,

I can confirm what you are seeing.

I took it a little further than you probably have and the 731228 snaphot goes no where.

As well this snap has no capability of building a separate MD (Media Director).

I am presently installing an older snapshot and if it is successful as a Core/Hybrid I will notify you of the date tag.

Cheers.

Hi jvandam87,

Just a couple of things...

I hope you verified your md5sum value.

When you burn your image to a DVD, burn at the slowest speed possible.

I just downloaded the 731228.iso and will be testing the image later.

I'll let you know how it went.

Cheers

Hi,

I just did an update, upgrade, dist-upgrade on my 14.04 dup HDD.

I haven't done anything on 14.04 for about a month.  (Hey, it's summer, it's hot and it's beer, bikini and boating season!)

I did not have anything populated under Media (off my NAS) for about 20 minutes.  UpdateMedia is still running and running.

Webadmin for NAS file server views shows nothing populated under UUID (same as 12.04).

I did not have to check online box.

Did you upgrade from 10.04?  If so you need to have username/password on your NAS because of changes to enhanced security in 12.04.

I wasted a lot of time running down symbolic link errors because I did not have password protection on 10.04 for my NAS when I upgraded to 12.04 (hence 14.04).

Cheers

Hi,

I've had that issue in the past.

I've had to cold boot to fix, or, swap ethernet cables with a cold boot, swap back cables, swap cards, disable mobo ethernet and add another peripheral card, etc.

At the moment my system is solid and I no longer (ATM) receive the 'waiting for network connection message' on a startup.

Cheers.

Hi cfernandes,

Did you try a cold boot? (power supply off/wait 30 seconds/power supply on)

Cheers.
