Installation issues / Re: Wiimote: bluetooth stick with ssh ?
« on: June 20, 2008, 01:52:16 pm »
Hi.

Here's a link to an article about SSH.

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SSHHowto

The bluetooth dongle doesn't have SSH, OS software does.  Watch your MD screen messages during bootup.

Cheers.

Installation issues / Re: Core Setup
« on: June 20, 2008, 01:08:20 am »
Hi.

A "Core" system is basically the brain.  Diskless Media Directors (hooked up to TV's to play movies, etc.) are appendages.

I would suggest that you spend a little more time reading the wikis, decide if you want a core or a core/hybrid etc.

An easy thing to start with is a core/hybrid you get to see the whole thing in action.

When I started to play with the system I tried a pure Core, then wiped everything, played with a Core/Hybrid, wiped everything, reloaded the software about 12 times, at least.  I thought about what I wanted to accomplish and eventually after playing for a long time, (months in my free time), I decided that for what I wanted to do required a dedicated core and MD's or susbsystens.

Read, play and have fun.

Cheers

I don't think so.

Hi,

It looks like you're building a Core/Hybrid system.

Your Monitor is hooked to the VGA port or to the DVI port with a DVI to VGA adapter?

I see that it's 1024/768 @ 60 Hz resolution.

Could you post your xorg.conf file?

(I tried Nvidia drivers from the Nvidia site but I found that using the default NV drivers in LMCE were easier to initially work with.)

Hi,

As for as I know it should work depending upon what type of Video card you are using.

What are you using for a Video card?

Cheers

Hi,

Here's a link to what I had to do to get 1080p working on a Sharp Aquous.

You'll want to edit your xorg.conf EDID stuff to get native resolution.

Another area covers adding inputs via web admin.  I don't know if you need that.

Installation issues / Re: PCI Soundcard Recommendations

Hi.

Just curious, but does your motherboard have SPDIF out?  You could then connect the mobo SPDIF output, with a compatible cable, to your GF8600GS video card input and then output sound via your DVI/HDMI connector to your T.V. or A/V equipment.    No sound card needed.  Or, am I missing something?

Thanks.

Installation issues / Re: External Network

Your external interface is eth0 right?

This is necessary for LMCE to work properly.

Your network setting shows that your internal iface=eth0, did you get this corrected?

Thanks.

O.K.

I'm running an NX8400GS on my diskless MD.  (no hard drive period.)

I'm hooked up to a Sharp Aquos LC46D64U 1080p LCD screen.

When you load your diskless MD you need to wait for Diskless_Setup.sh to complete.  The cursor blinks for about 5 minutes before setup continues and the MD restarts.  When the files are downloaded and the configuartion is complete the system will beep.  I hope you are waiting long enough for the beep especially when you have no sound!

Anyway,  our setup are pretty similar except for some wiimote stuff.

In Section "Monitor" since I'm 1080p my Modeline is as follows...
"1920x1080" 148.5 1920 1960 2016 2200 1080 1082 1088 1125

In Section "Device" and Section "Screen" I have option "UseEDID" "true" which allows my monitor to run in 1080p native resolution but I had to add some inputs via web admin to use the correct input on my Sharp LC46D64U.

In Section "Device" Option "ConnectedMonitor" is "DFP"
There are also 2 other options after "DFP"
Option "AllowGLXWithComposite" "true"
Option "AddARGBGLXVisuals" "true"

In Section "Screen" after Option "UseEvents" add the two options AllowGLX and AddARGBGLX again.
Then add Option "TVStandard" "1080p"

In Section "Extensions" add
Option "Composite" "true"

I hope this helps you out.

Cheers.

Hi,

So when the system initially boots up you see the Kubuntu splash, then the screen goes black and after system beeps you press 1 and no A/V Wizard is presented via the DVI/HDMI port?  O.K.

The restricted nvidia drivers were loaded during the initial MCE setup?  O.K.

I would guess the next thing to look at is your xorg.conf in the MD diskless directory.  From the Core it's in something like  /usr/pluto/diskless/XX/etc/X11.

Post your xorg.conf if need be.  That'll be a start.

Hope this helps.

Hi,

Have you tried bypassing the A/V amp and go HDMI directly to the T.V?

Have you re-ran the LMCE A/V wizard and tried the SPDIF audio selection as compared to analog audio selection?

Just passing some ideas.

Cheers.

Here's a link to an article that explains a little bit about the update mechanism.

http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Update_System

Any version changes (updates) would occur in 7.10.

Upgrading to 8.04 would be handled through a new release of MCE.

Hope this points you in the right direction.

Oh, I'd better say just for sure...

eth0 (external) goes to my DSL/Cable router with built in wireless.

eth1 (internal) goes to a 1gig TP-link TL-SG1008D 8 port switching hub.

Cheers.

Hi,

I'm using 2 ethernet cards in my system.  No wireless.  I don't know if that would cause a problem.

However, when I pull up Advanced/Network Settings via web admin page

EXTERNAL_IFACE is     eth0.  This has to be the case for the core system.
EXTERNAL_MAC          ##:##:whatever
EXTERNAL_IP             192.168.1.105  (in my case)
EXTERNAL_NETMASK   255.255.255.0
EXTERNAL_DHCP         1
INTERNAL_IFACE         eth1
INTERNAL_MAC           ##:##:whatever
INTERNAL_IP              192.168.80.1
INTERNAL_NETMASK    255.255.255.0
GATEWAY                  192.168.1.1
DNS1                        192.168.1.1
DNS2                        192.168.1.1

Domain=LinuxMCE          Computer name=DCERouter
DHCP server on Core:
 X Enable DHCP server
then some ip address range stuff

Number of network adapters: 2

Your core has the following network adapters:

1.External network card eth0

X Obtain IP address from DHCP

2. Internal network card eth1

IP address:    192 168 80 1
Subnet mask  255.255.255.0

I hope this gives you something to compare to. :)
