Installation issues / Re: Mother components

Hi,

From personal experience with Ubuntu, Fedora, etc. you'll maybe want to think twice before getting the latest and greatest chipsets etc. as driver support for those devices, and others, can take a while.  Some new cards could still be using supported chipsets - you'll have to research things a bit.  (Not Abit - no pun intended).

Cheers.

Hi,

I guess I'd download the Kubuntu CD and MCE CD's and try them out.

I did had problems trying to use a SATA DVD.  I switched it out for an IDE drive and things worked much better.

Good Luck.

Hi,

If you have tried to reload 3 or 4 times and still get the error I would try to burn another DVD but at a slower write speed, maybe 2 or 4X.

Uh yes, did you check your md5sum values?

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info.

I'll watch for the results of your investigation.

Hi.

I was wondering about a DOS or whatever CDROM/DVD OS boot disk.  When you have an bootable OS loaded into memory if that was enough for the autorun on the Linksys disk to allow you to get things set up.  I'm just being lazy (plus do not have a spare HDD).  I do not want to rip a box apart that has a CDROM/DVD installed, then install a temp HDD, if I can use the existing CDROM/DVD to my advantage.

Thanks for your time.

Hi.

DVD install wipes all data on the disk.  It takes a while for the DVD installation to occur.  Not as long as CD, but, you get a lot more prompts, or visual queues, during CD install.  You'll have to wait 40 or so minutes during the DVD install, depending upon your hardware, before you see something.

Hope this helps

Hi,

I've got a WRT54G but I was wondering about the WGA54G setup.

If you didn't have a donor HDD couldn't you just run the WGA54G setup disk from a CDROM/DVD drive to program the WGA54G?

Thanks.

Hi,

What is the actually native resolution of your screen?  From your manual.

720p native resolution is 1280 x 720.  If your native resolution is actually 1366 x 768 you may get an error message.

Did you try seting up your LCD via xorg.conf to run in native resolution?

Check out EDID settings re: http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=5328.0

Hope this helps.

Hi,

When you are running through the A/V wizard just try defaults for everything, i.e. VGA,640x480, 60hz.

Your monitor runs at 1024/768 in VESA.  Maybe there is something to do with the xorg.conf.

Your display ranges.

     Resolution  H. Freq. V. Freq.
Mode   (H x V)    (KHz)     (Hz)   Notes
  1   640 x 480   31.47      60    VGA
  2   640 x 480   43.47      85    VESA
  3   720 x 400   37.93      85    VGA
  4   800 x 600   53.67      85    VESA
  5   832 x 624   49.73      75    MAC
  6  1024 x 768   68.68      85    VESA
  7  1152 x 870   68.68      75    MAC
  8  1280 x 1024  91.15      85    VESA
  9  1600 x 1200  75.00      60    VESA
 10  1600 x 1200  93.75      75    VESA

Cheers.
