Hi,

I did not look at the spec's.  I am "aarrgghh" don't know how to explain it.

Something just released, a new brain fart, etc. etc.  is not going to make it into supported LMCE for some time.

DO NOT!!!!  purchase the latest and greatest chipset, bullshitsets whatever, because someone has to integrate the more popular devices into LMCE.

Sorry,

I just purchase a new MOBO that WINXP can't support, FEDORA 9 can't support and there's NO WAY I'm going to purchase "hisss eevvviilllll" VISTA to get half ass'd support!

I am really tick'd at the moment.  Please forgive me.

Hi Roberto,

If you are going to buy and old notebook then depending upon the price why not just buy a digital picture frame?

There 10 inch ones out there that play MP3's for a couple of hundred dollars (some brands say they can play movies).

It would be a lot less bulky than a notebook, easier to hang on a wall or setup on an end table (smaller footprint).

Just an idea.

Hi,

Sounds like you've got the wrong resolution setup.

What kind of TV do you have?  If it is a standard CRT type your resolution should be 640x480.

If this is what you have set then look at your var/log/Xorg.0 to see which mode is valid.

Or you can change your etc/X11/xorg.conf file to improve your resolution.

Cheers.

Doing a md5sum (an equal CRC value between the original and the copy is the simplest way to explain it-for me anyway) is important to verifying the iso was properly downloaded.

You can do it (md5sum)from Kubuntu, you can do it from windows, please look around on how to do it.

Maybe someone can give you a link... I've got to run at the moment.

Burning at a lower speed can help reduce write (CRC) errors.

You can burn disks, they can check out but if you are using a SATA CD/DVD drive to install, things can be really inconsistent with Kubuntu on how it works.

Hi,

My LMCE Core is AMD64, 1 MD AMD64, 1 MD AMD32.  I run 32-bit on all.

Have 2 Fedora boxes (F9 & F8) AMD64 X2, AMD64 respectively both running 32 bit plus 1 Ubuntu box AMD64.

I tried Fedora, Ubuntu and LMCE as 64 bit but had issues on all 3 versions.

Right now, for me anyway, 32 bit seems the way to go - everything is happy.

Hi,

I'm curious as to what your set your graphic display to.  I hope it was Static images, no overlay (lightweight).

Cheers.

Hi,

When you say you reinstalled Kubuntu 7.10 does that mean you wiped the HDD and intalled only 7.10?

Your earlier post said you were running Kubuntu 8.04 and had the 7.10 iso's on the hard drive.  8.04 isn't a good idea.

Also did you check your md5sums when you made your disks?

After you made your clean install of 7.10 did you then copy your md5sum verified iso files on the hard drive?

Have you tried burning your disks at a slower write speed?

Hi,

Make extra sure that the address provided with HCI scan is the address you programmed as BADDR.

If the resolution is low/small on the terminal window you can easily misread the HCI tool address.

Double/triple check your address.

The wiki works for Core, Core/Hybrid's and MD's.  I've tried them all.

Usually when something didn't work it was a silly error on my part.

Cheers.

Hi,

If you reloaded software (and you are not on the default VGA port) and you are hooked up to the S-Video output you probably have the black screen issue.

http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=3931.0

"the page is very long, what do I have to search for exactly?" if you mean the var/log/Xorg.0 file you'll be looking for "Mode Validation" i.e. which mode is valid and which is rejected.   After the ModePool section ends the assigned Display Device will tell you screen resolution.

Cheers.

Hi,

Check your user manual to see if there is a RS-232C port specifications section.

Forget that...

I just looked at the manual via linked supplied by totallymaxed and the RS232 port is only for service/maintenance.

Sorry.

Hi,

I looked at your model of TV but the spec's I read said that you have these inputs.

1 x RCA(Composite), 1 x S-Video(S-Video), 1 x RCA(Component), 1 x HDMI(HDMI), 1 x VGA(Analog RGB), 3 x RCA(Audio in), 1 x Phone 1/8"(PC audio in)

I couldn't find any information about the TV having a RS-232 port.

Hi,

If you were running the system on PC/VGA and switched to TV/S-Video wouldn't you have to switch the A/V wizard setup from VGA to S-Video?

Just curious.

Hi blakesle,

Have you tried to copy the MCE CD disks 1 and 2 plus the Kubuntu CD .iso files to your hard drive?

If not try that and then run the installer and point the browser to that disk location.

Hope this helps.

Hi,

If your notebooks don't have ethernet ports your BIOS may not even support NIC access.

I looked at the site.

I don't see how you could get the device to PXE boot because it's going to be recognized as a USB adapter not as a NIC card.

If you could get this to work as a plug and play device under Kubuntu it would give you access to hard wire ethernet but you couldn't PXE boot (GRUB might work).

Doing a grub boot requires a HDD in the notebook.

What about going via wireless adapter?  Here's the LAN link http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Internal_LAN_setup

Hope this helps.

Holy Cow roberto99, what are you up to now?

Anyway, there is the possibility of doing a grub HDD boot but unfortunately I couldn't find the link.

It seems digg is slowing things down a bit.

But, I remember reading about if you could not do a NIC PXE boot there was a way to setup a grub boot.

I don't know if that was what you where looking for.

Go for it.  Have fun.

Cheers
