Users / Re: How to send multiple IR codes for one command
« on: January 19, 2009, 05:09:32 pm »
If anyone is interested I was able to do this with LMCE's "original" On and Off commands the following way:
- first I setup a custom device template that will use Ruby code, using Thom's very usefull information in this thread:
http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=7024.0
- the I use for example the following code for Off:
system ("/usr/pluto/bin/MessageSend 192.168.78.1 0 363 1 191 9 \"0000 0070 0000 003A 0080 0041 0010 0010 0010 0030 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0030 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0030 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0030 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0030 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0030 0010 0010 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0030 0010 0010 0010 0030 0010 0010 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0031 0010 0030 0010 0ABB\"")
system ("sleep 1")
system ("/usr/pluto/bin/MessageSend 192.168.78.1 0 363 1 191 9 \"0000 0070 0000 003A 0080 0041 0010 0010 0010 0030 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0030 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0030 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0030 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0030 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0030 0010 0010 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0030 0010 0010 0010 0030 0010 0010 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0031 0010 0030 0010 0ABB\"")

Where 192.168.78.1 is the Ip of my core (localhost will not work since the command is mostly executed on MDs), 363 is the device id for my USBUIRT IR Transmitter, and 191 means the "off" command. The data at the end is in Pronto format.

It's not completely kosher since the ID for my USB Uirt is hard coded, and that defeats the purpose of LMCE's message routing intelligence and LMCE templates, but it works.

Krys,
when you look in your device tree, is the Monitor "under" the MD, or under the MD's Orbiter or under something else?
I created it so that it belongs to the MD, I'm not sure if that was correct.

Krys,

after adding the device pipe, I can also see that the "off" command is being sent to my monitor now, however the logs /var/log/pluto/DCERouter.log then say that my monitor device has not registered.

05      01/06/09 21:08:01.921           The target device 360 (routed to 360) has not registered. <0x40800950>

Do your logs say the same? You put the system(xset blah) command under Ruby codes, right, not under "Commands" in a command group lower on the template page?

Jean

EDIT: Another question I guess is whether you made the Monitor a child of the MD, of the MD's orbiter, or of something else?

Users / Storage device (Terrastation) freezing/locked up
« on: January 07, 2009, 03:57:01 am »
Hello,

I have a Buffalo Terrastation mounted in LMCE, and accessible at /mnt/devices/67 on the core.

Since a few weeks, after a couple of days LMCE can no longer access any files on that share

cd /mnt/devices/67
done on the core will just hang for hours (until I press control c)

Yet my Terrastation is still accessible from windows computers in the same network, so it is not frozen.
Reboot of terrastation alone does not help, I have to reboot the terrastation and then reboot my core for it to work again, and it only works for a few days again, yet it was working for months without a problem.

So I am wondering how these shares are mounted and unmounted in LMCE, as I can find nothing in fstab, and even the output of "mount" does not reveal anything usefull.

Once I know how to unmount and remount this share without rebooting LMCE, I could hopefully troubleshoot some more, maybe find pertinent logs and search for similar issues in Google.

I tried to disable the share in the pluto-admin, then reload, then enable, then reload, but that did not temporarily fix the issue.

Thank you!

Thom,

thanks a lot for posting the information on how to create a generic PC monitor device. I was waiting for this for a long time. I tried following your instructions but I am also running into problems.
Some questions to cover my basics: where do I put the PC monitor device? As child of the MD, of the MD's orbiter, or perhaps under some GSD device that belongs to the MD? Do I need to create a video pipe for this to work?

Right now I can see in the logs that the orbiter is sending the off command to the MD, but nothing more is logged after that. I have right now the Monitor as child of the MD, with ON and OFF commands implemented, and located in the right room.

I am really interested in getting this to work. Thank you!

Krys,
there is this bug with certain Nvidia ethernet chipsets where the Mac address is reversed for WOL. So Instead of sending aa:bb:cc:dd:ee you need to send ee:dd:cc:bb:aa. Although it's unlikely that you rpicture frame has an Nvidia chipset, you could always try that just in case, by sending the reversed mac address with etherwake and see what happens...

For anyone still having problems getting this to work, please read on:
I was trying to add CoreAVC to a new MD thsi weekend, following my own Wiki instructions. I decided to take a shortcut when building the dev environement and after downloading the LMCE source code, I did not complile it, and instead went straight to the xinelib compilation. Xinelib complained about missing zlib and Xshw or something like that, which I provided via Ubuntu packets.
Well, the resulting xinelib was ignoring dshowserver and Coreavc, just as described by Cirion.

Therefore I want to indicate that it is very important to go through the ./configure and make when installing the dev environement (even though this takes hours) as this provides specific versions of libraries used by xinelib for all this to work.

I was going to update the Wiki accordingly but apparently something is broken there regarding Captchas. When trying to save, the wiki says that I entered the captcha incorrectly, but there is no captcha displayed...

Colin,

the same thing happened to me once on a different MD after a reboot of the Core I believe. Now with Zaerc's comment,it could be that I simply mistakently did something to tell the MD to boot from the disk on reboot...

Jon,

thanks, that would be good enough, but then how do I tell the system to use my newly created scenarios to turn on and off the device, instead of the normal ON and OFF commands? The idea would be to still have the system turn the device on an off as usual (turn on when I want to watch TV, turn off after 15 mins of inactivity, turn on in security breach etc)

Users / How to send multiple IR codes for one command
« on: January 03, 2009, 02:27:24 am »
Hello,

I am trying to control a Panasonic Projector which lacks discrete IR commands for ON/OFF.
I need to send the following keypresses:
For ON: Power then Return
For OFF: Power then Power

I guess this is called a "macro" in regular universal remote language.

In LMCE, I am asked to define one single IR code for the command ON and a single IR code for the command OFF. How can I send several IR codes for ON and OFF? I tried entering multiple IR codes where I define the code for ON and OFF, but that did not work. If I would create a new command called Return, would I be able somehow to create 2 new On and Off Commands that "play" several commands one after another?

Thank you for any help or pointers.

Hello Guys,

I just wanted to thank you Colin for your persistance in getting this to work. This is what finally convinced me to buy a Wind box. Thank you also Andrew for all your help.

I ran into exactly the same issue as you Colin in the end, and I can tell you that the solution was the depmod, since we are adding a new driver r8168 and the box will not use it unless a depmod has been issued to update the availabel modules I guess.
I took the liberty to update the wiki, although this command is only relevant in case we add a new driver (which does not happen for everyone, just for this particular box) but I thought it can't hurt. I would never have found this solution without your last post Colin.

Now off to enjoying 720p TV on my monitors throughout the house...

EDIT: I now see that this post is much longer than I initially thought. The problem I am referring to is the one with the network card.

Thom,

thanks, but that's about double what I can get a C-500 for on Ebay though. For that price I'm happy to continue using my nails :-)
I should try to see if I can install your PadOrbiter on them though...

Bulek,

thanks, yes I will do that. Will report if it works. I could event play a beep (saw a command somewhere to do that), then after a certain Delay I could unpause the media and revert to media playing or something like that. Will report if I get any luck.

Hello,

I use one of these and want to mention that the touchscreen is a bit particular. It will not repond to a touch with a finger. You need to either use the stylus, or use your fingernails.

Something to keep in in mind as you may not like it.

(And if someone knows a tablet of a similar size in the same pricerange that responds to finger touches please let me know!)
