1  LinuxMCE / Installation issues / Re: Can't Install Kubuntu on Fresh Build on: July 11, 2008, 08:48:30 pm
I would love to use the quick install DVD, but my media center does not have a DVD player/burner yet (kinda weird huh).  I believe everything in my media center is on the list, but I've not checked the mobo or CPU and I think that might be my problem.   I'll have to check it and upgrade again if need be.  Thanks.

I have not verified the checksum, however, I ordered CD's from ShipIt now (I think that's the name) - 3 CD's right from the Kubuntu website, and one from Amazon.  Both CD's will run Kubuntu from the CD drive (even the 64 bit 8.04 runs from the CD drive).  When I click on the Install icon, it gets to the partition screen, but it doesn't show any partitions.  I can't create a new one or edit an existing one.  It seems like Kubuntu just can't see my HDD.  I know 2 of the CD's work because I used them to install Kubuntu 7.10 before I upgraded the mobo and CPU.  The other CD is Kubuntu 8.04 64 bit, as I am now using an AMD processor.

So, are there any plans to have LinuxMCE run with 8.04?  Just curious.

So, LinuxMCE will not work with the most current version of Kubuntu?  Also, it is not a hardware problem; no version of Kubuntu will install as it cannot find my IDE drive.

5  LinuxMCE / Help Wanted / Re: Linux mce remote, wher to buy? on: May 16, 2008, 03:54:09 am
Along this same line, do any of the Logitech Harmony remotes work well with LinuxMCE?  I am considering buying one and would like to use it for everything on my A/V rack.  Thanks.

Thanks for the advise.  As far as the wireless card, I found out that it is support with kernel 2.6.17 and my kernel version was 2.6.13.  So, I rebuilt my media center pc using AMD 64 bit architecture and will install Kubunutu 8.04.  I hope LinuxMCE will work with this version.

Thanks.  For  now, my media center will be used more as a PVR than watching HD content over the internet.

Half-Man.  The best (cheapest, too) remote is the Gyration GYR3101US remote.  I just bought oneThere is an easy WIKI install.  Bought it from Circuit City for 36 bucks.

$36!!!  This remote is $121.99 at tigerdirect.com!!! Nice!!  Check the link:

9  LinuxMCE / Help Wanted / Buffalo Wireless PCI Card Disables itself on: May 04, 2008, 03:39:04 pm
I have a custom built media center PC and I would really like to use LinuxMCE.  I currently have Kubuntu 7.10 installed and would like to copy the LinuxMCE iso's wirelessly from my Windows PC to my Linux media center.

However, the Buffalo wireless PCI card I bought will disable itself about 5 seconds after I enable it - everytime.  I checked some reviews at www.newegg.com and one of them said that this cards works perfectly out of the box with Ubuntu, so I figured it should work with Kubutnu.  I posted this problem on the Kubuntuforums.com, but no one has responded, so I thought I'd try here.

Here are the PC specs:

Ahanix 701 series HTPC case w/7" touchscreen
Intel D845EBG m/b
Intel 2.8GHz P4 Northwood CPU
1GB RAM
40GB Wetern Digital HDD
Winfast Pro XP TV Tuner Card
Buffalo Wireless PCI card, model WLI2-PCI-G54S
nVidia legacy video card

I will soon be upgrading to an AMD 64bit m/b and processor.  Any help would be greatly appreciated, and I and fairly new to Linux so be gentle.
