If it helps ....

I restored a known working xorg.conf to my acer revo mds (from a GlobalUpgrades.sh backup). That fixes it and they no longer go into the Wizard on reboot.

My hybrid core still does but I rarely reboot that.

I think the default xorg.conf generated by the system since late January is missing something.

From memory ... if I rm xorg.conf* from /etc/X11/ and reboot ... the wizard runs and creates a xorg.conf. However this new conf is ignored when the system reboots and the wizard runs again.

This does not seem to happen with a known good xorg.conf.

Also worth mentioning that around the same time I was having lots of 'Failed to setup X' issues. I actually had it on all three mds at one point. I think that is why I resorted to the backups.

All my mds have nvidia graphics cards.

Let me know if I can help troubleshoot this.
Cheers

Hi l3mce,

Updated but same result. Not sure if this helps but ...

Last messages on the screen before wizard are:
Code: [Select]
* Starting upnp media server mediatomb
02:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: NVIDIA Corporation ....
/etc/X11/xorg.conf is missing. Using video driver 'nvidia' for NVIDIA Corporation GT210 [GeForce 8400 ....

Not set up for IRC at the moment. Will try and do that tomorrow.

Will report back.

Hi Guys,

Just got a nvidia geforce 8400gs graphics card so I can use vdpau. Installed and working. The motherboard also has an nvidia graphics card (7025 so no vdpau).

Problem is every time I reboot it reports no /etc/X11/xorg.conf even though there is one (checked with ssh). Then I'm back in the AVWizard.

Updated recently.
Any ideas?

Users / mythtv mpg playback problems
« on: December 24, 2012, 12:49:12 am »
When I playback mythtv recordings I am unable to skip or ff etc. I can only pause/play. Trying to skip etc just restarts the video from the beginning.

I have just run the globalupgrade script in 10.04 and confirmed this still happens.

Am I missing something?

Reboot fixed the problem. Could have been one of your suggestions.

Sorry to waste your time.

Installation issues / [SOLVED]Black goes transparent - Nvidia 10.04
« on: November 26, 2012, 09:50:39 pm »
Hi guys,

I have a strange problem. When watching videos on my acer revo I get patches of transparency where the screen is black. I am able to see the screensaver through it.

Any suggestions?

Check that you have the latest update.
Delete the last several unhashed lines of /etc/pluto/xine.conf and rm /etc/asound.conf /etc/X11/xorg.con* on your ION and reboot. This will take you to wizard where you should have some success.

This solved my Acer Revo sound issue. Didn't change xine.conf but everything is now working after the wizard. Once again thanks l3mce. You devs are doing an amazing job.

After the small mythtv audio hack I have a working system. Let's not forget this is beta software. I know the risks and I'm happy to help any way I can.

Found a fix. Configured mythtv frontend setup set audio = spdif, instead of 'alsa default'.

Works for me now but I guess this should be auto detected?

Another bug is that I have configured the spdif optical out in my lmce setup, so my volume control should operate my amplifier rather than mythtv. At the moment it operates both.

For example if I vol down it happens on my Denon amp as expected AND on screen in mythtv. Same with mute. I think the volume controls should only operate my Denon amp (at least that is how it worked in 0810).

Hope this helps.

Hi Dennis,

Just tried that but still the same result.

Looks like mythtv isn't aware of the sound device even though everything else works.

Must be related to the latest changes. I think l3mce has rolled out some major improvements to audio (as you know!) but this has broken sound in mythtv for me.

I'll see if I can find the conf for myth to troubleshoot.

Installation issues / Sound Problems 1004 beta

Since recently upgrading (yesterday) I have some sound issues.

No audio over hdmi on my acer revo md (broken for several days now).

Sound works on my core (spdif optical) for audio and video but mythtv volume is stuck at 0% so no sound.
Any ideas?

Hi l3mce,

Just ran Globalupdates and I've lost hdmi audio on my acer revo again.

The layout of asound.conf has changed so I can't apply the previous fix you gave me. Judging by your last post above I guess you are aware of this.

Do I need to restore from the md from the tarball or is there a fix on the way?
Cheers

Users / TBS6981 DVB-S2 Update
« on: October 06, 2012, 03:36:54 pm »
Hi Guys,

Bought this card as it is supposed to be recognised by the kernel but there were a few caveats. The card is recognised as the conexant CX23885 but the firmware needs compiling to work properly with this tuner.

I have got it working and have added a script to compile the firmware on the wiki page.
http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/TBS6981_DVB-S2_Dual_Tuner_PCIe_Card

Now fully working DVB-S2 twin tuner. Very pleased.

Change your /usr/pluto/templates/asound.conf file, the last pcm.hdmi has embedded in it
card 1
device 7

change that to
card 0
device 3

and reboot. Audio will now magically appear if you said yes during wizard to hearing hdmi and dolby. If you did NOT then run avwizard and do so before changing the card/device to the appropriate numbers... because if you try and hit avwiz with the correct values, avwizard will hang.

Thanks l3mce ... worked like a charm. I now have sound again.

Still no sound over hdmi I'm afraid.

Here are the latest steps I took yesterday:
1. Fully updated core
2. Rebooted core
3. Deleted md
4. Ran Diskless_CreateTBZ.sh on core
5. Booted acer revo

Acer revo md has no audio over hdmi no matter what video option I choose (hdmi or dvi/hdmi2).

The new NVidia pci sound card option screen shows 08.00 at the end (not sure if this is relevant).

Let me know if I can help troubleshoot this.
