Installation issues / Re: can't run 12.04
« on: November 06, 2014, 01:40:30 pm »
I feared as much....if it's only a graphics card issue, I will try another one. I don't think it's the mainboard, because I believe I saw some  forums where this one is reported as working with 12.04.
by the way, I checked the md5sums on the iso and the DVD...they are ok

I just tried the image on my regular Windows-machine tried the live option and there it worked nicely. I'm quite mystified why it won't boot on my server hardware, where 10.04 continues to run nicely.

No, I did not check the md5....but I don't think it's a problem of the lmce image. I tried several ordinary kubuntu images, but none worked.

Installation issues / can't run 12.04 [solved]

It seems I would have to wait a little longer to test some new version of lmce. I'm running 10.04 quite nicely, but I got curious about 12.04 since the nice video with the rpi. Anyway I cannot get anything from 12.04 to run. On my hardware (phenom quad-core, Asus m2n-sli deluxe with bios 1804, kingston ssd v300 with latest firmware, nvidia gt610 and 2x2tb hard drives). It boots, then after a while the CD just rumbles away...and then stops. Not even a lives does the trick. However I tried 14.04 as a live like a charm.

Hm, my hands are getting itchy to try 12.04, but I am a bit hesitant. So I was wondering, if you have a rough estimate for a beta....I won't hold you to a date....

I'm sorry, but as I rwad, there are a lot of scripts in lmce build on bash and your post seems to suggest to change bash to dash...I'm not too comfortable with that, so do you have an idea how I could upgrade bash? I have the exact same problem  as the starter of this thread.

I just downloaded the latest build of qt5 qorbiter. It downloaded ministro-libs again, but in the end said, ministro could not provide dependencies and closed

Users / Re: Can not place international calls in 10.04

I recently found out, that I have the exact same problem. International calls via lmce are not possible. I have another sip-phone directly connected to my fritzbox and I can place Calls to anywhere.

When watching videos on YouTube with 10.04 I still got "smurf tv". I tried setting the installed Firefox to html5 for video playback...which works insofar, that it's not bluish anymore, but I traded the sound for it. Any Ideas?

I would be most interested in control via Ethernet..

Users / thinking about new av receiver
« on: July 29, 2014, 11:42:28 pm »
I was wondering, since my current again receiver is getting long in the tooth, what I would buy as a replacement. I figure a ethernet-port would not be a bad idea.
So what do you guys some suggestions?

Thanks for your input. Perhaps I will just wait until 12.04 or 14.04 has become stable and will try it again then.
If you ever make it to Germany, be sure to ring me up....frosty milk, or cold beer...your choice

Like I said,I don't know either. I can access the damned thing from Windows, only lmce doesn't care about it. Some of the other devices I unblocked showed up again, but not the nasbox. I would invite you over, so you could see it with your own eyes, but I guess that would be quite a stretch :-)

There is nothing showing in the devicetree. Perhaps I should check in irc.

The NAS simply does not get discovered. It gets an IP address from echo and I can access it from my Windows go so far. However I checked for unknown devices. I will just unblock them all and hope that will kick it into gear.
Update: I changed the cable on the NAS, rebooted it, threw out all unknown devices and waited. The only thing that showed up was this bogus dlink530 device...
