Today I did an install of lmce 10.04 RC1
I got a core with an older AMD dual core on an Asrock MB, 2GB Ram, 2x2TB hdd, and a Geforce 8400GS, a Soundblaster Audigy2 ZS with an added Coax SPDIF out and for TV a Hauppauge Nova HD-S2.
I have one MD running- or rather still installing- an Asrock Ion 330.
The install itself ran pretty straight forward, no problems there. In contrast to the last snapshot I Installed, my mediafiles were all detected an added to the database immediately.
What I did find out during my install so far is this:
- the TV card gets detected and preconfigured, what is missing is the firmware, so I had to install linux-firmware-nonfree manuall. I don't know if this is behaviour by design. I remember running 8.10 rc1 or rc2 that process wasn't neccessary anymore.
- The soundcard in my core is not working or not working as it should. Its very weird. KDE desktop complains immediately, that this card is not working. I can open Alsamixer and check everything. This card has an IO-Pinout for SPDIF in-and out. I could use it for optical or coax. I use the Output as coax. Alsamixer only reports a spdif optical out. When I mute this one, I get sound, but DTS or Digital give me only some hissing. I did have this working before. Now I',m a bit at a loss.
- I believe the graphicsdriver for Nvidia is still the 260 version. I remember reading a number of threads here as well as from my own experience, that this driver causes a lot of artifacts and distortions. I once installed the 295 version, which as for me a bit of a hassle. I later changed to a seemingly easier approach in installing nvidia-current. However I believe that version is by now around 303 or something. I don't know if this causes the immesureable number of crashes I had with mythtv. If there is a better way of getting rid of the aforementioned artifacts, please let me know.
- Right now I'm still running the install of my MD and Sarah is looking at me very sternly, because we both wait for the xmltv util to be finished for some hours now
So far these are my findings. I will update this, as soon I find something else.
